This study is a study on the process of biological accumulation of heavy metals by analyzing crops and urine, hair and blood in inhabitants along Mankyeng river The pollution levels of heavy metals were examined with atomic absorption spectrophotometer from March 1991 to April 1992. The results showed that pollution levels in water was the highest value (Cd; 15.2㎍/l, Pb; 7.3㎍/l, Zn; 116.4㎍/l, Cu; 24.4㎍/l) in Korangdong(B). The degree of heavy metals in vegetables were the highest value(rice; Cd, 0.175mg/kg, Pb, 0.769mg/kg, cabbage; Cd, 0.124mg/kg, Pb, 0.949mg/kg, radish; Cd, 0.154mg/kg, Pb, 0.916mg/kg) in Korangdong(B) which adjacents to Chonju industrial area, and there showed the lowest in Youngamri(rice; Cd, 0.019mg/kg, Pb, 0.102mg/kg, cabbage; Cd, 0.019mg/kg, Pb, 0.162mg/kg, radish; Cd, 0.039mg/kg, Pb, 0.087mg/kg). The content of heavy metals in blood, urine, and hair is correlated with the contamination of soil, water, and crops.

Authors investigatigated the analysis heavy metals in corps at the Mankyung river area.<br/> Samples were digested with Cone. nitric acid and Cone. hydroc hrorico acid and analyzed by Varian 875 Atomic Absorption Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer in 1984.<br/> The results were as follows: The contents of heavy metals in rice were in the range of 0.41~5.15, 1.12~5.18, 10.65~14.54, 24.15~35.41ppm for Pb, Cu, Mn, Zn respectively. Those in barley were in the range of 0.48~0.81, 1.39~2.81, 9.69~14.89, 30.14~34.84ppm for Pb, Cu, Mn, Zn respectively. Those in kidney bean were in the range of 0.06~0.13, 3.65~6.25, 7.65~12.15, 51.25~65.69 ppm for Pb, Cu, Mn, Zn respectively. Those in corn were in the range of 0.59~0.89, 2.15~2.83, 6.01~10.15, 29.31~36.15ppm for Pb, Cu, Mn, Zn respectively.<br/> We might be concluded that the above values of heavy metals contained in crop at the sites near to Mankyung river wsre serious partially.

This study was conducted to investigate the antitoxic component in methanol extract of Houttuynia cordata $T_{HUNB}$. The results were as follows: Generally, detoxication effects by Houttuynia cordata $T_{HUNB}$ methanol extract increased in proportion to the methanol extract concentrations. When 40 mg/kg dosage of Houttuynia cordata $T_{HUNB}$ methanol extract was administrated, it showed the highest antitoxic effects in metallothionein induction. After the methanol extract treatment. Body weights increased in proportion to methanol extract concentrations. However, after 3 weeks, the body weight decreased insignificantly. From the above results, these results suggest that the methanol extract of Houttuynia cordata $T_{HUNB}$ increased metallothionein concentration and decreased the toxicity of cadmium in rats.

This study was conducted to investigate the antitoxic components in the water extract of the roots of Trichosanthes kirilowii (Cucurbitaceae). The results were as follows: Generally, detoxication effects by the water extract of T. kirilowii increased in proportion to the concentrations. Experimental animals were treated with cadmium and T. kirilowii water extract by oral administration. When 40 mg/kg dosage of T. kirilowii extract was administrated it showed the highest antitoxic effects in metallothionein induction. After the water extract treatment, body weights did not increase in proportion to the extract concentrations. These results suggest that T. kirilowii extract increased metallothionein concentration and decreased the toxicity of cadmium in rats. In vitro the antitoxic activity of water extract of T. kirilowii on NIH 3T3 fibroblasts was evaluated by the MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide) and SRB (sulforhodamine B protein) assays. The light microscopic study was carried out to observe morphological changes of the treated cells. These results were obtained as follows; The concentration of $10^{-2}\;mg/ml$ of T. kirilowii extract was shown significant antitoxic activity. The number of NIH 3T3 fibroblasts were increased and tend to regenerate. These results suggest that T. kirilowii extract retains a potential antitoxic activity.

어성초 전탕액이 흰쥐 장기내 카드뮴 축적에 미치는 영향(I)

From the above results, Houttuynia cordata $T_{HUNB}$ extract increased metallothionein concentration and decreased the toxicity of cadmium in rats. 흰쥐에게 카드뮴 경구투여시, 어성초 전탕액의 경구 투여한 후 카드뮴의 독성에 대한 해독경감효과에 대하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 흰쥐에게 어성초 전탕액의 경구 투여 용량이 증가할수록 카드뮴의 독성에 대한 해독경감효과는 증가하였으며, 신장에서보다 간장에서 해독경감효과가 좋았다. 2. 흰쥐 신장 및 간장의 MT의 농도는 간장에서 보다 신장에서 우수한 결과를 보였으며, 신장에서는 어성초 전탕액의 경구 투여 농도가 10mg/kg 이상이 되면 MT 형성은 어성초 전탕액의 투여 농도가 증가하여도 크게 증가하지는 않았다. 3. 흰쥐의 체중변화는 어성초 전탕액의 경구 투여 용량이 증가할수록 흰쥐의 체중변화도 증가하는 경향을 보였으나, 3주 이후에는 체중의 증가가 적게 나타났다. 이상과 같이 어성초 전탕액의 경구투여를 종합해 보면, 어성초 전탕액의 경구 투여 시켰을 경우 카드뮴의 독성에 대한 해독경감효과가 있는 것으로 판단된다.

In order to develop a antimicrobial agent, dried Sophora flavescens Ait. was extracted with several solvents, and then antimicrobial activity was investigated. The minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) of the extracted substance against microorganisms were also examined. Antimicrobial activity of the initial methanol extract from the sample was the strongest compared to those of other solvent extracts such as H2O, n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol. The methanol extract had strong growth inhibition activity against gram-postive bacteria (MIC, 25~50mcg/ml) such as B. subtilis and S. aureus. Among gram positive bacteria tested, B. subitlis was the most susceptible to the extracted substance. The antimicrobial activity of the methanol extract from the sample had strong growth inhibition activity against gram-negative bacteria such as P. aeruginosa (MIC, 25mcg/ml).
