Relationship between Subjective and Objective Assessments of Shock Signals in a Passenger Car

A car was driven at various speeds on an asphalt road with a profile that included half-sine shaped bumps of varying height. A tri-axial SIT-pad was mounted on the front passenger seat to record the acceleration experienced by the seated subjects who provided assessments of discomfort after each bump. Correlations were determined between the measured accelerations and the subjective assessments of 14 subjects. The discomfort was found to be more highly correlated with the VDV and the peak-to-peak value of the frequency-weighted acceleration than the r.m.s. value of the frequency-weighted acceleration.

Well developed driving simulators could be effectively used for human factor study and critical situations of drivers. In this paper, the experiments were carried out to obtain vehicle performances and input data for driving simulator. Various data such as steering angle, steering torque, longitudinal velocity and 3-axis translational accelerations were measured using steering wheel sensor, non-contact optical sensor(speedometer), triaxial accelerometer. respectively. To ensure the results, the input data for the driving simulator should be measured accurately.

This paper presents a three dimensional modeling and simulations of operation and running of a wheel loader using the ADAMS program. A wheel loader consists of a bucket, a boom, a crank, a front frame, a rear frame, a bucket cylinder, two boom cylinders, two steering cylinders, nine spherical joints, six universal joints, five translation joints, three inline joints, a revolute and a fixed joint. Judging from the actual degrees of freedom of the wheel loader, proper kinematic joints are selected to exclude redundant constraints in the modeling. Through the running simulation over a bump with the three dimensional modeling, the joint reaction forces are calculated.

A military UGV (unmanned ground vehicle) is a vehicle that operates without an human onboard for short-range surveillance and reconnaissance. It has to control driving direction and velocity by predicting road conditions, since the military UGV is being used in the off-road area. A focus of this paper is to predict the optimal velocity of the vehicle driving off-road. Current trends of velocity estimation method can be divided into two, a method based a road profile and a method using a response of vehicle. Because these methods can’t assure driving stability of vehicle on off-road, a method based virtual driving using DB has been proposed recently. Owing to using DB based on simulation results, this method has limitation on DB construction and the uncertainty of the driving stability. In order to overcome these problems, this study suggests a method of applying response of vehicle directly in virtual driving simulation without DB. To verify the suggested method, the vehicle is modeled with 1/4 car simply and Fuguson surface and B-spline is employed to interpolate the road and path data.
