The purpose of this study is to investigate the nursing image of junior college nursing students. The subjects in this study were 340 nursing students in Seoul Health Junior College. The results are as follows : 1. The average points of actual nursing image percieved by the subjects were 3.130, relatively high. The highest pointed item in all actual nursing images was "Nurses work with responsibilities." And the lowest pointed item was "Nursing is a hard and stressfull job." 2. The average points of ideal nursing image were 4.244, very high. The highest pointed item in all ideal nursing images was "Nurses ought to be prepared with lots of professional kowledge and correct skillful nursing techniques". 3. The relationship between actual and ideal nursing image was a positive correlation(r=0.166, p±0.0l). 4. Grade and absence or presence of a nurse among their family members were significantly associated with actual nursing image. 5. Grade, sex and admission period in hospitals were significantly associated with ideal nursing Images.

Objective: This study was made for understanding the contents, degree and the pattern of the patients' nursing needs who are admitted in a hospital. The objectives of this study were as follows 1) To identify the patients' nursing needs according to the need categories. 2) To identify the patients' nursing needs according to the general backgrounds. Method: The data collected from 162 admitted patients during the period from the middle of October to the early of November 2001. The instrument of this study was the questionaire which was consisted of 35 items. Data analysis was done by SPSS/WIN 8.0 statistic program. Results: The results obtained were as follows: 1) The average degree of total nursing needs of the subjects was 3.31 point(full point 4). 2) The highest-ranked need category is therapeutic need (3.52). And the next priority was educational(3.46), socio-economic(3.27). physical(3.20) and the last was the emotional nursing need (3. 16) ' 3) There were significant statistical differences in the total and some categories of nursing needs according to sex, marital status, perceived economic status. 4) There were significant statistical differences in some categories of nursing needs according to perceived health status, medical department and the hospital days. Conclusion: On the basis of above results we can conclude as follows. In nursing care for admitted patients we need to try to meet the therapeutic and educational nursing needs at first and consider the patients' individual background and disease characteristics.

The objectives of this paper were : 1) to explore the notion of nursing as an art and science. 2) to understand how nursing as on art and science. Has developed through a historical study, about philosophy of science, to explore how the philosophies of nursing as art and science. 3) to explore how the body of knowledge in nursing has been built through its epistemology. The purpose was to contribute to the understanding of nursing as a unique discipline. A review of the literature suggested the following conclusion. 1) Nursing as art and science is a synthesis rather than dualism : its effects are both visible and invisible. 2) Nursing encompasses a wide range of knowledge of human behavior and aesthetic perceptions about human experience, including an appreciation of the client's uniqueness and an ethical perspective based in he context of health/illness phenomena. 3) If nursing in tends to synthesize theory and practice, nursing theory and research development must their various of knowledge. 4) Research, recognizing the difficulties in understanding the meaning and nature of human experience, needs to use both qualitative and quantitative approach to enhance the nature of nursing as both art and science. Use of both research approaches will strengthen the development and affirmation of clinical practices to meet nursing's goal of health promotion.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide a basis for improvement and enhancement of nursing education by investigating learning outcomes that apply to fundamentals of nursing and teaching methods used in classes. Methods: Data were collected from 111 professors of fundamentals of nursing who responded to the self-report questionnaire. Data were analyzed using chi-square test. Results: For learning outcomes in fundamentals of nursing the most frequent number of outcomes was two (35.2%), or three (32.4%). For learning outcomes in fundamentals of nursing practicum, the most frequent number of outcomes was two (32.4%), or three (31.6%). In fundamental nursing classes, teaching methods used most frequently were lectures (98.2%) and videos (60.4%), and in practice classes, demonstration (98.2) and open laboratory (90.9%). Constructivist teaching methods that were utilized in fundamental nursing were team-based learning (19.8%) and case-based learning (19.8%), and for practice classes, objective structured clinical examination (29.7%). In the cross analysis, 28.8% of the nursing professor used the constructivist teaching methods in fundamental nursing and in practice classes. Conclusion: There is a need to continue to improve teaching methods for new nurse-educators and professors and to discuss learning outcomes of fundamental nursing.

In this study, we aim at grasping a single target object in a clutter environment using a robotic arm. For this purpose, we add a primitive motion termed “scattering” to a set of manipulator capabilities. In particular, a robot aims to grasp an object by first executing a simple scattering motion to scatter objects near the target object that might be blocking direcr access to it. The robot then reaches out its arm and finally closes its fingers to grasp the target object. Through experiments, we investigate the improvements in success rate with robotic grasping with the inclusion of scattering based on a relatively simple machine learning algorithm as well as well-known visual segmentation algorithms.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify effects of an obesity control program including rhythmical dance exercise, on body composition, knowledge about obesity, life habits and self-esteem among obese elementary school children. This program included obesity related health education and counseling based on behavior modification once a week, 1 hour-rhythmical dance class once a week and 40-minute jump rope classes twice a week for 8 weeks. Method: There were 29 students with obesity in the experimental and 28 in the control group. Participated was voluntary. The data were collected from April 16 to July 6 2007. χ2-test, Fisher's exact test, paired t-test and t-test were used to analyze the data. Results: Students in the experimental group showed significantly lower fat mass (t=-2.16, p=.036) and percent body fat (t=-2.93, p=.005) and significantly higher muscle mass (t=2.05, p=.045) and lean body mass (t=2.71, p=.009) than those in the control group. Knowledge of obesity increased significantly and eating habits changed significantly. But difference in exercise habits and self-esteem were not significant. Conclusion: This study provides evidence that an 8 week-obesity control program including rhythmical dance exercise is effective in decreasing body fat, increasing muscle mass and increasing knowledge of obesity in children who are obese.
