Experimental research was conducted to investigate the characteristics of various CFRP strengthening methods and effective depth of beam. A total of 12 specimens were tested in four point bending after strengthening them with externally bonded CFRP plates. The CFRP plates were bonded without prestress or with prestress levels of CFRP plate strain 0.6%. The non-prestressed specimen without anchor plate failed by separation of the plate from the beam due to premature debonding while the non-prestressed specimen with anchor plate failed by CFRP fracture and showed the significant increase of ductility capacity. In addition, the prestressed specimens failed by CFRP plate rupture. The maximum load and ductility capacity were most significantly increased. And it was founded the increasing ratio of ultimate load as to strengthening methods tends to decrease in case of the increase of effective depth of beam.

In this paper the characterization test for bond performance of CFRP plate was conducted, and based on its results, a new bond-slip model was proposed. The experiment results showed that as bond length and width of CFRP plate increased, its fracture load increased, but the increase also showed a tendency to reduce average bond stress due to the increase in bond surface. Also, as bond length and width increased, the strain of CFRP plate increased, but unlike bond length, increase in bond width was shown to reduce maximum bond stress. Among the test variables, as concrete strength increased in comparison to CFRP plate's bond length and width, fracture load and average bond stress showed tendency to increase, but the effect was revealed to be not significant. Also, as bond length increased, bond stress concentration was transmitted to the end parts of the CFRP plate, and as bond width increased, bond stress showed a tendency to uniformly spread along the bond surface. Based on the results of the bond experiment, a bilinear function was introduced to the ascending section and an exponential function was introduced to the descending section in correlating shear stress and slip in the bond-slip model, and a new bond-slip model was proposed that can effectively be applied to the analysis of boundary surface behavior between concrete and CFRP plates.

Poetry is generally regarded as the least practical of all the literature courses of college English department. This is certainly not an age of pure art or philosophy, and most poetry professors today quietly accept the sad fact that students these days tend to avoid taking non-practical courses. However, the more the world become practically oriented the more it needs to have poetry to remain balanced mentally and emotionally. This is why it is necessary today to try to attract more students to poetry courses. The purpose of this study is to develop a movie-based method of teaching English poetry better to Korean university students, which would help them understand English poetry better and make them more interested in the poetry course. The movie used here was The Deer Hunter(1978) directed by Michael Cimino. It is a movie about life and human relationship, their essential dignity and value that should be sustained against all the odds. Three young steel-factory workers form Pennsylvania, Michael, Steven and Nick, get drafted to fight in Vietnam. While in action they fall in the hands of the Vietcong and are forced to play Russian roulette against each other. Michael makes it possible for them to escape, but they soon get separated. Steven, breaking one of his legs and paralyzed under his waist, was evacuated and spends his days in a rehabilitation center refusing to return to his family. Nick, deserting from barracks, joins the professional Russian roulette gamblers and eventually kills himself in spite of Michael`s desperate efforts to save him. Michael, returning from Vietnam, has difficulty fitting himself to the life and people at home. The Deer Hunter makes use of some important formal devices and techniques that are typically used in poetry, especially modern British and American poetry. Showing this movie to the students before proceeding to read the poems and encouraging them to talk about its theme, formal devices and techniques, proved to help them get prepared for the course. While reading individual poems students were constantly reminded of some of the aspects of the movie relevant to those of the poems-irony, the dramatic form, juxtaposition, implications, symbolism, imagery. The student`s response to this method showed that it helped them get more interested in the course and understand the poems better.

Robert Frost`s poetry is generally considered to be Metaphysical, and therefore Modernistic, in that it is characterized by the harmony and balance of antitheses. However, his poetry has been taken as anti-romantic. Here we have two incompatible assessments of it in terms of antitheses: one emphasizing harmony and balance, and the other, opposition and conflict. The purpose of this study is to make it clear that Frost`s poetry is generally based on dualism, and that his antitheses cooperate and are in harmony with each other, as "two eyes make one in sight," for the expression of a unified view of the world. Frost was a self-professed dualist, and dualism provides the whole basis of his philosophical view of reality. The dualistic binocularity is the basis of Frost`s poetics, and the group of poems with the motifs of "choice" and "return," which includes some of his most famous poems, shows it especially clearly. The main purpose of this research was to enhance the durability in both the design and construction of dams. Especially, in case of rockfill dams, the durability of face slab concrete in a concrete-faced rockfill dam(CFRD) is achieved by optimizing the fly ash replacement for cement and application of blended fiber. The effect on durability and shrinkage property corresponding to the increasing replacement of fly ash and application of blended fiber was evaluated, and the optimum value of fly ash replacement and blended fiber application was recommended. The results show that 15% of fly ash replacement and 0.9kg/m<sup>3</sup> of blended fiber application was found to be an optimum level and demonstrated excellent performance in durability and shrinkage property.

The construction of box culvert for power transmission are increasing more and more, and the life extension of it is very important. The development of structural maintenance system in view of structural integrity evaluation is needed and widely discussed. Therefore, the structural integrity evaluation system(SIES) for box culvert is under developing. SIES consists of three part, investigation system using 3D optic scanner, DB system and structural integrity evaluation system. SIES makes progress in maintenance technology for box culvert and have various kinds of advantages comparing with conventional method by visual inspection.

The lane recognition for automating lane painting operation requires minimizing the amount of image processing in order to achieve real-time performance. This paper proposes a way to minimize the region of interest with the dynamic segmentation of entire image, so that the amount of calculation for image processing be minimized. This algorithm is especially designed for the robot system of automatic lane marking and shows the real-timeness as well as the robustness to the severely faded existing lane mark.
