취성기지 복합재료는 섬유와 기지 사이에 계면분리가 존재하는 경우가 있는데 이것은 복합재료의 강도와 강성저하의 원인이 된다. 계면분리와 섬유체적비가 복합재료의 기계적 물성치에 미지는 영향에 대한 유한요소해석을 수행하였다. 우선 몇 가지 가정하에 복합재료를 구성하는 섬유와 기지에 대하여 간단하게 모델링하고 이웃하는 대표체적요소의 경계를 따라 웅력과 변위 연속조건을 부과하였다. 강성상수들을 역변환하여 복합재료의 유효물성치를 구하였다. 완전접착의 경우 수치해를 혼합물법칙에 의한 이론해와 비교한 결과 일치함을 알 수 있었고 계면분리가 큰 경우 섬유체적비가 증하가더라도 물성치가 감소함을 알 수 있었다. Brittle matrix composites often have interfacial debonding between the fiber and matrix which may lead to strength and stiffness degradation. The effect of interfacial debonding and fiber volume fraction on the mechanical properties of composite material were studied by using finite element method. Firstly, the modelling of fiber and matrix constituting the composite material was simplified under some assumptions. Traction and displacement continuity condition were imposed along the boundary of adjacent representative volume elements. In order to obtain the effective material properties of composite material, stiffness constants were inverted. Numerical values of longitudinal moduli in case of perfect bonding were compared with theoretical values obtained by rule of mixtures and yielded consistency. Material properties of composite with large debonding angle were found to decrease even though the fiber volume fraction increased.

W/Cu FGM(Functionally Graded Materials) were fabricated by a novel method; resistance sintering under ultra-high pressure. To be used for plasma-facing material in fusion reactor, small scale W/Cu FGM mockup is manufactured and tested for structural optimization. Stress and strain distributions were obtained by finite element analysis for the various types of FGM mockups under heat load. Stress and plastic strain in W/Cu with graded interlayer were smaller than those in W/Cu with a sharp interface and the effect of grading the interlayer was found to be significant.

Exhaust variable valve is consisted of housing, torsion spring and plate, which is mounted on semi-active muffler of vehicle system. Stiffness and shape of components of exhaust variable valve determine the valve-opening time and make difference in exhaust performance. The valve-opening time is primarily determined by stiffness of torsion spring, engine RPM and exhaust flow rate. In order to estimate the behavior of the valve by considering friction of its components, torsion test for the spring is performed. Experimental stiffness is compared with design value, error between two values is analyzed and regression equation is obtained. The rate of valve-opening and closing is estimated according to the arbitrary spring stiffness derived from the regression equation. The results of analysis suggest that the rate of the valve-opening and closing estimated by the regression equation is consistent with that by the exhaust flow rate.
