This study aims to reduce the impact noise generated by real life in the apartment house through the application of floor covering materials. The impact force of real life noise varies according to behaviors, however a child jumps onto the floor from a height of 50 cm, the impact force is about 1100 N. This weight impact force is similar to that of a rubber ball fallen from 40 cm height which is regulated by KS. In order to reduce the noise of real life, experiments were carried out with floor covering materials such as PVC series, reinforcement, and ondol floor. According to application of different floor covering materials, there is a difference up to 300 N in case of an adult walking on the floor. Also, the case of rubber ball falling from 40 cm, it shows reduction over 50 N maximum. The light weight impact noise reduction performance of the same floor coverings material was increased as frequency goes to higher band. In addition, the difference in abatement performance was apparent due to the increase in the thickness of the floor coverings material of the PVC series. Dropping rubber ball from 40 cm height, the reduction performance appeared to be the best at 6.0 mm of PVC-based floor coverings.
