Vol.- No.7

No individual life is free from social and historical change. War is one of the strongest factors which occur changes in society in a great scale. The effects of war on individual lives seem to be various according to such conditions as gender, age, social backgrounds and so forth. This paper examines the effects of Korean war on women`s lives based on oral histories of seven women who experienced the Korean War as unmarried and nineteen to twenty-five year old girls. Especially, this study focuses on the ways in which the Korean War affected marriages and sexualities of these unmarried women. The oral history interviews conducted on these seven women show the ways in which women experience love and marriage, and also the process and characteristics that they select spouses and decide their marriage by the war in terms of timing and motives of marriage, and occupations of spouses. Besides, this study looks into the ways in which their family and parents consider their daughter`s marriage as a family strategy in the social dislocation of wartime. Moreover, it examines how these women remembers their marriage life in relation to war and give meanings to their lives. Exploring these matters through women`s oral history, this paper attempts to explore the characteristics of marriage and sexuality during the Korean war and the effects of the war made to women who experienced the war in their marriageable age compared to other generation of women.

Vol.8 No.2

The activation of gender governance is necessary to the development of local autonomy and local society as well as the increase of effectiveness of local women’ policy. The purpose of this study is to search for methods to activate gender governance in which local women participate with subjectivity in order to the development of local policy on women under the local autonomy system. The research method is case study on Atsugi City’s Human Support Network Atsugi of Kanagawa Prefecture in Japan. The findings of the case are presented below: Women made several achievements in managing the Network for more than 25 years. Women founded many facilities of caring through collecting fund from women, participated in the management of the facilities, administrated those facilities with women-friendliness, made efforts to reflect women’s needs and experiences, supported women’s development and so forth. Nevertheless, women made only limited efforts to cooperate with the local government and accepted the society’s gendered role system, but did not try to bring forth a question or reform it.

Vol.18 No.2

South Korea`s rapid ageing and the fast increase of nuclear families have led to the social isolation of the elderly and generational conflicts. In order to solve these social problems, this study explores the ways in which different generations can communicate and interact more actively. We surveyed 110 social workers who run generation-integrated programs at community centers in Gyeonggi province, and also examined the spatial design of the four age-integrated community centers and analysed its effect on the intergenerational exchange. We propose several suggestions for intergenerational exchange programs and effective space planning to facilitate intergenerational interactions in multi-generational community centers. To develop intergenerational interactions and keep their constant relationship, the users of community centers should be the core of generation-integrated programs which can facilitate the intergenerational exchange and interactions.
