As district heating systems are interconnected with multiple heat production facilities to form wider heat transfer networks, it is necessary to understand the patterns of heat transfer and trade in the networks. Since economics of heat production facilities including CHP, PLB and INC, it is important to prioritize the production facilities to satisfy heat demands from dispersed customers. In this study, we consider heat transfer and trade among different district heating systems interconnected each other. The concept of bottleneck links is defined and a network simulator has been developed to test the characteristics of the heat transfer and trade. It is shown that by increasing properly the capacity of bottleneck links, it is practically feasible to maximize the total system output. Based on this observation, we propose a mechanism to facilitate the heat trade between the different district heating systems.

Particles or deposit formed by corrosion of the pipe material bring about bad influences on the heating systems with inconvenience, energy loss and so on. In order to obtain the non-corrosive environments, the circulation hot water should properly be treated in several ways to satisfy one or more conditions of the followings: suitable pH-level, low hardness, low oxygen content, low conductivity, low level of chlorides and sulphur compounds and low level of solid particles. This experimental study was carried out to develope the new guidelines on the optimal water quality and directions for water quality management in heating systems. As results, it was recommended that the heating water be maintained pH-level not less than 8, hardness contents as CaCO₃ no more than 50 ㎎/L, turbidity no more than 10 NTU and T-Fe contents 1 ㎎/L below.

The purpose of this research is to produce experimental equipment to verify the previous research on the operation of district heating pump system. The experimental system was designed and constructed as a reduced model simulating the parallel and combined operation of the district heating pump system. The experimental pump consists of two pumps of the same capacity and one pump of the other capacity, and has the same performance ratio as the district heating pump. In order to confirm the construction state and reliability of the experimental equipment, the performance test of the pump was carried out and the simulation of the same flow distribution and the experimental result were compared for the parallel operation of the pump. Performance tests are consistent with both data provided in pump making, and it was confirmed that the reliability of the experimental apparatus was high by comparing simulation and experimental results.
