To analyze a formation process of the soots in spray flame in the combustion chamber, an optically accessible DI Diesel engine was used for visualization.<br/> The images of the flames and soots were visualized with high speed camera by Schlieren method and Light extinction method. The spray flame and soot images on the films were analyzed at the various engine operating conditions.<br/> Soot distributed widely in spray flame and its concentration was about 100g/㎥ at the position close by nozzle tip of spray flame region, however it decreased below 20g/㎥ at the corner of combustion chamber due to soot oxidation.
직분식 디젤기관 전자분사계의 광검출기 적용에 관한 연구

Increasing stringent emissions legislation and requirement of more effective energy used for diesel engine demand the fine control of the fuel injection system. Recently, the electromagnetic fuel injection control system for diesel engine is tried to realize the optimum diesel combustion by the feed back sensing as optical signal of combustion flame.<br/> The photo detectors were made for the feed back signal of electromagnetic fuel injection control for small DI diesel engine. Their abilities to detect defining combustion events were examined. By evaluating test results, it was shown that the wider acceptable optical range design of optical probe window face, and selection of installation position and installation method of detector were important point for improving sensing ability. The detector was shown to detect start and end of diffused combustion and maximum point of flame intensity impossible for pressure sensor, and also shown that the maximum point of flame intensity was 75% of accumulated heat release point within the experimental conditions.

The reliability of Emergency Diesel Generator(EDG) System is considered one of the most important item linked directly with safety and reliability of nuclear power plants (NPPs). EDGs in NPPs adopt large medium-speed diesel engines, which were designed on the basis of marine's, and are in standby during normal plant operation. However, the failure rate of the EDGs in NPPs is not so much lower than that in the marine engines due to the peculiar operation condition such as fast start, frequent starting test, fast loading, high running load, etc. In this paper, the suggestion for reliability improvement of domestic EDGs were provided through the analysis of the failure cases in U.S.A
