In this paper, a planar car model with 3 degrees of freedom was analyzed using the concept of the roll center. To avoid ambiguity, force components which require experimental data were excluded. Only kinematic approach was used to find the position and orientation of the vehicle body and the position of the roll center. The roll center was found by the pole with infinitesimal movement and Kennedy-Aronhold theorem. Centrodes, which are the loci of instantaneous centers of planar motion, were constructed with analyzed results to show characteristics of vehicle body motion. To verify the presented analysis method in this paper, the locus of the roll center and motion of the 3 D.O.F planar car model were compared with those of the 1 D.O.F model.

Diesel fuel injectors work by transferring fuel from the supply line to the fuel injector device which is attached to each cylinder where it is pressurized and then sprayed through a small nozzle into the cylinder"s combustion chamber. While a diesel fuel injector working, the highly pressurized fuel inside the fuel passage can cause the stress and deformation of parts of the injector and by extension, it may be a cause of malfunction of the injector. In this paper, the stress distribution and deformation of a 2,000bar diesel fuel injector model2 are analyzed using finite element method and compared with model1 for suggestion of better design.

In this paper, type synthesis of variable valve lift mechanisms for automotive engines is performed using graph theory. In general, variable valve lift mechanisms can be classified into two groups: The first group is a system consists of two one-degree-of-freedom mechanisms with a switch, and the other group is a mechanism with two degrees of freedom. In this study, graphs of variable valve lift mechanisms in both groups with up to five links and two independent loops are enumerated and some feasible mechanisms are drawn.

Analysis of vehicle spatial motion and its characteristics is difficult. In order to maintain the motion, stability analysis is a key point for a half car. In this paper, we propose a method of motion analysis using screw axis. The concept of the geometric roll center is described by screw axis theory. Roll motion of a vehicle can be determined by instantaneous screw axis and screw axodes. The shape of the screw axodes enables to predict the roll characteristics of a vehicle directly. This paper presents screw axodes of half car models with McPherson strut, double wishbone, 5-SS multi-link, and 4-link suspension system.
