In this paper, workability, compressive strength of hybrid fiber reinforced cement composites(HFRCCs) have been investigated by means of Korean Standard Testing Methods (KSTM). Hybrid fiber reinforced cement composites(HFRCCs) contains the polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyethylene (PE), and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber. As the result of the compressive strength tests, all the specimens show multiple cracking in the area subjected to the greatest compressive stress. In particular, test results showed that the hybrid fibers, PE and PVA specimen, could result in superior composite performance compared to their individual fiber reinforced cement composites, PET specimen.

In this study, the mechanical properties of SHCC (Strain-hardening cement composite) with recycled fine aggregates were discussed. The amount of demolished concrete waste has been increasing due to reconstruction and redevelopment of aged buildings. Recycling of waste concrete by converting not only saves landfill space but also reduces the demand for extraction of natural raw material for new construction activity. The use of recycled aggregates is recommended to solve environmental problems. This paper shows the results of the compressive strength, flexural strength and direct tensile response of SHCC depending on different replacement level of recycled fine aggregates. For these purposes, two kinds of replacement level of recycled fine aggregates were used : 30%, 50%.

Reinforced concrete rahmen structures has been required ductility as well as strength of beam-column joint in seismically hazard area. Some investigations have been carried out retrofitting and/or strengthening structural elements in structure. Strain-hardening cementitious composite(SHCC) has been expected excellent reinforcement performance in beam-column joint area. The properties of reinforcing fiber, as tensile strength, aspect ratio and elastic modulus, have great effect on the fracture behavior of SHCC. Fiber can control fracture of cementitious composite by bridging action. The purpose of this experimental study is to evaluate structural performance of exterior reinforced concrete beam-column joint strengthened with SHCC under cyclic loading. The cyclic loading test results identified a unique unloading and reloading response for this ductile composite.

In these days, carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) has been widely used for retrofitting and/or strengthening structural elements in structure. However, there are not enough test data to predict the long-term performance of the retrofitted structures exposed to weathering. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of freeze-thawing on the shear behavior of reinforced concrete(RC) beams strengthened in shear with carbon fiber sheet and plate. Six small-scale RC beams (100 mm × 100 mm × 400 mm) were strengthened with CFRP in shear, subjected to up to 240 cycles freeze-thawing from -18~4℃, and tested to failure in four-point bending. The test data also indicated that no significant damage to carbon fiber sheet and plate strengthened concrete beams had occurred because of 240 cycles freeze-thawing.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify experiences of immigrant women from Philippines in childrearing. Methods: The study design was a qualitative research. Participants were 15 Filipino immigrant women living in rural Korea. Average age was 37 and average duration of marriage was 11 years. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participants were interviewed once or twice between December 2009 and February 2010. Data were analyzed with Colaizzi`s (1978) phenomenological methodology. Results: The Four themes-clusters were identified from fourteen themes. The theme-clusters (themes) were 1) Responsibility of a mother as a foreigner (being a role-model, patience, strict upbringing); 2) Practical problems of child-rearing (parenting alone, language difficulties, financial difficulties, lack of husbands` support, cultural obstacles; 3) Worries about their children (children`s emotional problems, speech disorders, maladjustment at school); 4) Hopes for the future (self-satisfaction, expectations for their children, social support). Conclusion: The results help in understanding the situation of immigrant women from the Philippines when they nurture their children and suggest the necessity of programs focusing on improving mother-child relationships, especially as related to mothers` limited language skills. Further comprehensive education programs to improve better father-child relationships in relating to each other should be developed.
