급변하는 노인부양 행동과 가치관의 변화, 그리고 그에 따른 새로운 노인부양책의 필요성이 증가하고 있는 한국의 현실을 고려해 볼 때, 선진국의 노인부양 시스템을 분석하고 한국에 적용될 수 있는 방안을 모색해보는 것은 필요한 일이라 할 수 있겠다. 따라서 본 연구는 여러 선진국들 가운데서도 노인복지가 가장 효과적으로 이루어지고 있는 스웨덴의 노인부양 시스템의 장단점을 분석하여 한국 노인부양책의 지침을 마련하고자 한다. 스웨덴의 공공 노인부양 시스템은 육체적 그리고 정신적으로 도움을 필요로 하는 노인의 다양한 요구를 효과적으로 충족시켜왔다. 다학제적인 기반아래 이루어지는 부양 계획(Multidisciplinary Care Plan), 소규모의 양로시설 환경, 그리고 자가거주 노인들의 독립성과 자율성을 향상시킬 수 있는 스웨덴의 노인부양 시스템은 한국의 노인부양 정책에 적용 될 수 있을 것이다. 그러나 스웨덴의 노인부양 시스템을 받아들이기에 앞서 급변하는 한국 노인들과 그 부양자들의 가치관과 요구를 충분히 조사하고 이해하는 것이 앞서 이루어져야 할 것이다. Swedish public old-age care appears to be highly effective in meeting various needs of physically and cognitively impaired older people. Approaches such as multidisciplinary Care Plans, the small scale of residential care settings, and priority of community care for the elderly at home which promotes independence and autonomy can be adopted for Korean elder care policies. A close watch of what can be learned from weaknesses and strengths of Swedish old-age care can be useful, considering the aging population and ideological or behavioral changes in elderly caregiving in Korea. However, any adoption of foreign lessons must be evaluated in cultural terms: culturally sensitive programs for the Korean elderly and their family members are required.
