Objectives : To test the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture applied to PC6 and ST36 for the relief of fullness of epigastrium or epigastric pain. Subjects and Methods : We enrolled fifty patients in a case series study The patients were mainly female (94 %) with an average age of 55 years $({\pm}15.0)$; the average age of the male patients was 51 years $({\pm}20.0)$. Twenty four percent of patients were in acute phase which epigastric pain had lasted below 1 month. Twenty eight percent of patients were in chronic phase which the pain had lasted over 6 month. The rest were in subacute phase. Acupuncture needles were inserted into PC6 and ST36 bilaterally. The acupuncture treatments were performed 2 times a week for 4 weeks. One treat session was lasted for 30 min. At each visit, overall symptomatic improvement, frequency and intensity of symptoms were checked on a 4 scaled questionnaire. Results : After acupuncture treatment, a progressive improvement of pain intensity was reported in 46 of the 50 patients, including 23 of excellent and 23 of good. The progress of symptom was more superior in subacute phase to acute or chronic phase. The symptom of 22 of 24 patients in subacute phase was improved. No patient experienced minor side-effects during acupuncture treatment. Conclusion : These preliminary data suggest the acupuncture treatment provides good pain relief for most patients presenting with epigastric pain. The objective of this study is to examine and clarify the relationship between the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and the Meridian flow, especially around the TMJ. Methods: We reviewed the literature on the 8 Extra Meridians and the 12 Main Meridians around the TMJ. Results & Conclusion: Eight Extra Meridians keep the balance and harmony of the TMJ, and also play an important role in maintaining equilibrium of Yin and Yang of the whole body. The 12 Main Meridians, twelve Meridian Divergence (12經別) and Meridian Sinew also play an important role in the balance and harmony of the whole body based on the function of the Vicera and Bowels (臟腑). So it is conceivable that the role of TMJ is important in terms of health care.

Objectives: Weights and measures (度量衡) in Korean traditional medicine has been changed in many dynasty and country. Thus, measurements of chon (寸) and cheok (尺) have been estimated as symbolical meaning in a study of meridian and acupoint in today. The present study was made to settle up standard measurement by surveying length of each parts of upper limb as the follows. Methods: To calculate length of 1 chon (寸), it was divided length of each parts into number of chon (寸) in 《Goldo · Hwangjenaegyeong-yeongchu (靈樞· 骨度篇)》; it was compared chon (寸) length in 《Goldo · Hwangjenaegyeong-yeongchu (靈樞·骨度篇)》with chon (寸) length in length of 1 chon (寸) which is calculated by dividing hight into 75 chon. Results: Increment of length of 1 chon (寸) did not changed as increment of height in subjects. Length of 1 chon (寸) in height is representative of length of 1 chon (寸) in each parts of upper limb. Conclusions: We suggest that most suitable length of 1 chon (寸)for the standard measurement of acupoint location is 2.20 ± 0.17 cm based on length of elbow joint to wrist joint.

Objective : Standard of measurement in Korean Medicine has been changed in dynasty and location. Thus, cun (寸) and chi (尺) as unit of measurement for meridians and acupoints could be recognized as the length of equally divided portions of a certain long bone or the distance between two anatomical landmarks and as an symbolical meaning to date. The goal of this study is to propose a new standard measurement in the metric system for the relative measurement of cun and chi as unit of measurement for meridians and acupoints in normal male legs. Methods : This study was conducted by gauging each parts of normal male legs in the metric system and comparing to the relative measurement of cun and chi as follows; to calculate 1 cun, the length of each parts was divided into the unit of cun referred to Measurement of the Bone in Neijing Lingshu (靈樞 骨度篇); it was compared the unit of cun referred to Measurement of the Bone in Neijing Lingshu with cun which was calculated by dividing subject's height into 75 cun, respectively. Result : There has no significant difference in length of 1 cun among each leg's areas based on a standard of subject's height. The unit of cun by the metric length in the legs was similar to the unit of cun referred to Measurement of the Bone in Neijing Lingshu based on each subject's height. Conclusion : It is suggested that an unit of cun as the measurement for meridians and acupoints in the male legs should be considered to the ranges from 2.4cm to 2.6cm.

Objection: A medicine which is patient-initiative and preventive is required in Korea, which is going to an aging society. On this, we started this study to make a new rule to diagnose and treat more definitely by linking traditional Oriental medicine to Sasang Constitional medicine, which thought to be suitable because of Sasang Constitional medicine has been valued on staying, diet and human`s nature which means preventive medical propensity. Methods: On this study, we discriminated Sasang Constition of 161 students, who is in college of oriental medicine, Wonkwang university, by using QSCCⅡ program; and in those students, we checked 30 volunteers`s five vicera`s Back-su point on riging and depression, tenderness reaction, and color reaction after cupping treatment. Results: As a result of study of riging and depression of five vicera`s Back-su point, we could confirm that defecient organ`s Back-su point were more depressed than excess organ in Seum-in, Taeeum-in, Soyang-in. As a result of study of tenderness reaction of five vicera`s Back-su point, we could confirm that excess organ`s Back-su point showed stronger tenderness reaction than defecient organ in Seum-in, Taeeum-in; and excess organ`s Back-su point showed weaker tenderness reaction than defecient organ in Soyang-in. As a result of study of color reaction after cupping treatment of five vicera`s Back-su point, we could confirm that excess organ`s Back-su point showed stronger color reaction than defecient organ in Seum-in, Taeeum-in; and excess organ`s Back-su point showed weaker color reaction than defecient organ in Soyang-in. Those data suggest that there are close correlation between Sasang Constition and on riging and depression, tenderness reaction, and color reaction after cupping treatment of five vicera`s Back-su point in treditional Oriental medicine. Conclusions: From this study, we can make a new rule to differentiate Sasang Constition by clearfy a relation between Sasang Constition and five vicera`s Back-su point; and with this rule, we could contribute to popularization and objectification of Sasang Constition medicine and further more, Oriental medicine by making a Sasang Constition diagnosis instrument. With this, a trait of Sasang Constition medicine that is preventive and valued on character of individuals will contribute to building a patient-initiative and preventive medical system and will expend the domain of Oriental medicine.
