This study surveyed the prevalence of traumatic reticular diseases (TRD) of slaughter cattle in Korea, the typology of the causative foreign bodies and the effects on beef quality and carcass weight. The overall prevalence of TRD in 3,121 slaughter cattle was 5.5%. However, the prevalence was significantly higher in Korea indigenous cattle Hanwoo (5.8%, p < 0.05) and female cattle (20.75%, p < 0.001). The prevalence significantly increased in aged cattle (p < 0.001). Major lesions related to foreign bodies were reticulitis (96%) and peritonitis (86%). Most causative foreign bodies were made of iron including nails, wires, steel rods, screw nails, and syringe needles. Cattle affected with TRD produced significantly lower grade quality of beef compared to normal cattle (p < 0.0001), but TRD did not affect carcass weight. The data will be useful in the management of TRD, with the aim of increasing beef productivity in Korea.
촛불에서 발생하는 미세먼지 측정과 자동정화 시스템 구현

본 논문은 촛불에서 발생되는 미세먼지를 측정하고 미세먼지 농도에 따라 자동적으로 정화 시스템이 동작하도록 구현하였다. 최근 실내에 좋은 향기와 아늑한 분위기를 연출하기 위해 향초를 사용하고 있지만, 향초를 태운 미세먼지는 실제로 건강에 악영향을 줄뿐만 아니라 밀페된 공간에서 심해진다. 따라서 실내 공간의 내부 미세먼지 농도를 실시간적으로 측정하고, 자동 정화 시스템을 통해 미세먼지 농도를 줄이도록 연구하였다.

We investigated the effect of temperature and stock density on the collection efficiency of oral fluid in the pig farm in Korea. Three pig farms with similar breeding environmental conditions were selected and four pens of each farm (total 12 pens) were tested for the collection efficiency of oral fluid from pigs. Collection rate was considered as significant when oral fluid was collected from 70% of pigs within a pen. In the case of growing pigs, when internal temperature of pig barn increased by one designated degree (5℃), the oral fluid collection rate significantly decreased by 24.7% (P<0.05). The collection rate of oral fluid also decreased by 7.1% (P<0.05) as the density rate increase by one designated degree (12.5%). It was estimated that the collection efficiency of oral fluid decreased when the internal temperature of pig barn was 30℃ or higher, or barn density is higher 25% or high. On the other hand, in the case of stall-housing sows, unlike growing pigs, there was no significant differences according to the temperature, so oral fluid collection was considered to be efficient even in hot season.
Salmonella typhimurium 에 대한 E-ball 및 상용화된 소독약품의 살균 및 소독 효능에 대한 연구

Many chemical disinfectants are using to protect the foot and mouth disease (FMD) and avian influenza (AI) in Korea since 2000. This study was performed to confirm disinfective ability of commercialized chemical disinfectants and to investigate the sterilizing ability of E-ball as alterative to chemical disinfectants. 4 kinds of acidulant, 3 kinds of aldehyde, 1 kind of oxidizer and 300 g of E-ball were used in this study. Dilution rate of disinfective power of all chemical disinfectants were to 200 times. The sterilizing ability of aldehydes were better than the acidulant and oxidizer with Salmonella typhimurium. The sterilizing ability of E-ball treated solution was guessed due to the friction of E-ball deads. In the case of the friction of 2 beads of E-ball, Salmonella typhimurium was sterilizted on 1×106/mL CFU in the E-ball treated solution. The E-ball treated solution had superior sterizing power compared with the chemical disinfectants in the bacteria of soil for antibacterial examination. E-ball treated solution has a possibility as the substitute of chemical disinfectants to protective the animal diseases contains FMD, AI.
선천성 면역에 대한 Lactobacillus acidophilus의 효과

Probiotics have many effects such as antihypertensive, prevention of cancer, antioxidation, reduction of dermatitis symptoms, improvement of mineral absorption, reduction of allergic symptoms, and decrease of cholesterol, However, the main role of probiotics is that they balance intestinal microbials proportion. L. acidophilus is one of probiotics and microflora in intestine. It has an acidification activity, aroma production, texture formation and probiotics properties. We studied on the roles of L. acidophilus in mice. In this study, body weights of mice were decreased when administration of L. acidophilus (1×1010 CFU) and swimming ability has been raised than a normal group after feeding on L. acidophilus (1×1010 CFU). After taking L. acidophilus (1×1010 CFU), total white cells were increased than a normal group; hemoglobin and thrombocytes were increased. The level of cholesterol and triglyceride were decreased in blood analysis. We knew L. acidophilus is related to innate immune system. We found out the secretion of cationic peptide was increased in the Lysoplate assays as a result of L. acidophilus (1×1010 CFU) administration. Appearance rate of lysozyme was also increased than the normal group on an immunohistochemistry stain. We confirmed L. acidophilus contributes to host health through innate immune system stimulation. L. acidophilus more than 1×1010 CFU are thought to be beneficial for the host health and prevention of intestinal diseases in field condition.

This is a case report on the occurrence of caprine arthritis-encephalitis(CAE) disease among dairy goats in a local farm located in Yeongdong-gun, Chungbuk. Previously, it was reported that the farm experienced intermittent deaths numbering 15 of the 97 goats raised for 5 months. Most of the goats less than 6 months of age were suffering from ataxia and posterior paresis, body tremor and abnormal head posterior. Affected animals frequently had stunted growth and had a rough coat. Goats more than 6 months of age were affected with an insidious, chronic arthritis characterized by articular swelling("big knee") of the carpal, hock, and stifle joints. Necropsy revealed severely swollen mesenteric lymph nodes, under-flow of 2-3㎖ synovial fluid in the articular space and fibrous proliferation of synovial membrane. Histopathological examination showed perivascular accumulations of mononuclear inflammatory cells in the white matter of the brain, proliferative synovitis characterized by villous hypertrophy, synovial cell hyperplasia and infiltration by mononuclear inflammatory cells. Pulmonary lesions consists of patchy interstitial pneumonia with hyperplasia of lymphoid tissues and an extensive mononuclear inflammatory cell infiltration into the alveolar septa. Confirmation by nested PCR involves amplification of a 296bp(1st PCR) and 184bp(2nd PCR) fragments corresponding to the gag region of the CAE virus. This is the first time CAE has been reported in a local farm in Korea and emphasizes the importances of developing preventive measures against CAE.
