이 연구의 목적은 북한이탈주민을 대상으로 남한사회의 적응에 대한 주관적인 인식을 파악하고 이를 유형화함으로써 북한이탈주민의 남한생활 적응력을 향상시키는 방안을 마련하는 데에 있다. 남한생활 적응에 관한 32개의 진술문을 가지고, 19명의 북한이탈주민을 대상으로 Q 분류를 하게 하였다. 그 결과 인식유형은, 첫째, 남한사회 적응의 기본조건을 경제적 측면에서 찾는 ‘경제적 자립 지향형’, 둘째, 북한이탈주민에 대한 국가의 제도적인 지원과 지역사회 적응 프로그램이 중요하다고 보는 ‘사회적 인정 지향형’, 셋째, 현재 생활상태에 만족하며 유지하고자 하는 ‘현실 만족형’, 넷째, 남한사회의 안정적인 정착을 위해서는 자신의 노력이 중요하다고 생각하는 ‘장기적인 안정 지향형’ 등 네 가지로 나타났다. 이 결과에서 북한이탈주민들이 한국사회에 적응하는데 경제적 자립을 위한 정부 및 지역사회의 체계적인 지원이 중요하며, 사회복지적 개입이 필요함을 알 수 있다. 또한 진학이나 직업훈련 등의 자기개발 프로그램, 지역사회의 다양한 영역에서의 사회적 지지가 지속되어야 한다. The purpose of this study is to explore the subjective perception of North Korean defectors concerning 'social adjustment', categorize this, and suggest possible ways to enhance the adaptability will to them. With 32 statements related to social adjustment, Q-sorting was conducted to 19 North Korean defectors. Through Q Methodology, four types and features of their subjective perception about 'social adjustment' turned out as follows. First, 'economic independence oriented type' is to adapt to capitalism in South Korea and live in a humanitarian way. Second, 'social sanction oriented type' is to give the defectors a variety of long-term support through an institutional support and community adaptation program. Third, 'reality satisfaction oriented type' is to be satisfied in the current live. Fourth, 'long-term stability oriented type' is to think that when the defectors do their best in a normal life, they can achieve their goals as Korean citizen. According to the results of the analysis, first, the most important thing to adapt to South Korean society is economic independence. Second, social welfare intervention is needed to give them the early adaptation support, community network and case management. Third, some of the defectors tend to receive the support of the government continuously. Finally, a long-term and various social support should be given to them continuously, because the values of the defectors grown in a socialist system does not change easily.
