        대두박 대체 부산물 위주의 TMR 사료가 반추위 내 미생물의 In Vitro 발효특성에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 농 식품부산물 중 비지박, 사자발약쑥 그리고 커피박의 유효미생물 (L. acidophilus ATCC 496, L. fermentum ATCC 1493, L. plantarum KCTC 1048, L. casei IFO 3533) 발효 사료원이 젖소 급여용 TMR (대조구) 중 대두박을 주로 대체한 각 비지박 (SC), 발효 비지박 (FSC), 발효 비지박+발효 사자발약쑥 부산물 (1:1, DM basis, FSCS) 3, 5, 10% 그리고 발효 비지박 + 발효 커피박 (1:1, DM basis, FSCC) 3, 5, 10%의 반추위 내 미생물 발효특성을 알아보기 위해 9처리구를 이용하여 3반복으로 in vitro 시험이 실시되었다. 배양 6~8시간대에 FSCS와 FSCC 처리구는 SC와 FSC 처리구에 비해 높은 pH 수준을 유지하였고, 대조구에 비해 낮은 pH 수준을 유지하였다 (p<0.05). 또한 배양 24시간대 FSC와 FSCC 3% 처리구는 가장 높은 pH를 유지하였다 (p<0.05). Gas 생성량은 배양 4~10시간대까지 FSCS와 FSCC 처리구가 대조구 보다 유의적으로 높았으나 SC와 FSC 처리구 보다 낮은 결과를 나타내었다 (p<0.05). 건물소화율은 배양 12시간대까지 FSC 처리구에서 유의적으로 높았고 (p<0.05), 24시간대에는 FSCS 10% 처리구가 가장 높은 결과를 나타내었다 (p<0.05). $NH_3-N$ 함량은 배양 4시간대까지 대조구에서 가장 낮았고 (p<0.05), 24시간에서는 FSC 처리구가 가장 높은 결과를 나타내었다 (p<0.05). 미생물단백질 합성량은 배양 시작 시 FSC, FSCS 그리고 FSCC 처리구가 4종의 Lactobacillus spp.에 의한 발효 때문에 대조구와 SC 처리구에 비해 높았으며 (p<0.05), 배양 10시간대 FSC 처리구 보다 SC, FSCS 그리고 FSCC 처리구에서 유의하게 높은 결과를 나타내었다 (p<0.05). Total VFA 농도는 배양 6~12 시간대에는 FSC 처리구에 유의하게 높았고(p<0.05), 배양 24시간대에는 FSCS 처리구에서 가장 높았다 (p<0.05). Acetate 농도는 배양 0~12 시간대에 FSC 처리구에서 가장 높았으며 (p<0.05), 24시간대에는 FSCS 5, 10% 처리구에서 가장 높은 결과를 나타내었다 (p<0.05). Propionate 농도는 FSC 처리구가 배양 0~10시간대까지 가장 높았으며 (p<0.05), 전체 배양기간 동안 FSCS 5, 10% 처리구와 FSCC 처리구에 비해 높은 경향을 나타내었다. Acetate/Propionate 비율은 배양 12시간대에 SC 처리구에서 가장 높았으며, 배양 24시간대에는 FSCS 3% 처리구가 가장 낮은 결과를 나타내었다 (p<0.05). $CH_4$ 가스 생성량은 FSC 처리구에서 배양 0~10시간대까지 가장 높았으며 (p<0.05), 24시간대에는 가장 낮은 결과를 나타내었다 (p<0.05). 배양 4~10시간대까지 FSCS와 FSCC 처리구는 SC와 FSC 처리구에 비해 유의하게 낮은 $CH_4$ 가스 생성량을 나타내었고 (p<0.05), 사자발약쑥과 커피박 함량이 증가할수록 $CH_4$ 가스 생성량은 배양 종료 시까지 낮은 경향을 나타내었다. 따라서, 본 in vitro 시험에서 젖소 급여용 TMR에 SC, FSC, FSCS 그리고 FSCC의 대체효과는 FSC 처리구에서 배양 초기부터 12시간대까지 반추위 내 미생물 발효 특성이 가장 높았다. FSCS와 FSCC 처리구는 배양 6~8시간대 부터 반추위 내 미생물 작용이 높아지는 특징을 나타내었으나, 배양 시작 후 6~8시간대까지 gas 생성량 및 $CH_4$ 가스 발생량은 낮아지는 특징을 나타내었다. 이와 같은 결론은 FSC는 젖소용 TMR 사료원 대체 효과가 높으며, TMR 사료원 중 FSCS와 FSCC 대체효과는 배양 초기 다소 낮은 반추위 내 미생물 발효 특성을 나타내었으나 $CH_4$ 저감효과를 나타내었다. 또한 배양 후기에는 SC와 FSC의 반추위 내 미생물 발효 특성과 비슷한 경향을 나타내어 TMR 사료원으로써 이용 가치가 높을 것으로 사료된다. This study was performed to evaluate the effects of replacing basic total mixed ration (TMR) with fermented soybean curd, Artemisia princeps Pampanini cv. Sajabal, and spent coffee grounds by-product on rumen microbial fermentation in vitro. Soybean in the basic TMR diet (control) was replaced by the following 9 treatments (3 replicates): maximum amounts of soybean curd (SC); fermented SC (FSC); 3, 5, and 10% FSC + fermented A. princeps Pampanini cv. Sajabal (1:1, DM basis, FSCS); and 3, 5, 10% FSC + fermented coffee meal (1:1, DM basis, FSCC) of soybean. FSC, FSCS, and FSCC were fermented using Lactobacillus acidophilus ATCC 496, Lactobacillus fermentum ATCC 1493, Lactobacillus plantarum KCTC 1048, and Lactobacillus casei IFO 3533. Replacing dairy cow TMR with FSC treatment led to a pH value of 6 after 8 h of incubation-the lowest value measured (p<0.05), and FSCS and FSCC treatments were higher than SC and FSC treatment after 6 h (p<0.05). Gas production was higher in response to 3% FSC and FSCC treatments than the control after 4-10 h. Dry matter digestibility was increased 0-12 h after FSC treatment (p<0.05) and was the highest after 24 h of 10% FSCS treatment. $NH_3-N$ concentration was the lowest after 24 h of FSC treatment (p<0.05). Microbial protein content increased in response to treatments that had been fermented by the Lactobacillus spp. compared to control and SC treatments (p<0.05). The total concentration of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) was increased after 6-12 h of FSC treatment (p<0.05), while the highest acetate proportion was observed 24 h after 5% and 10% FSCS treatments. The FSC of propionate proportion was increased for 0-10 h compared with among treatments (p<0.05). The highest acetate in the propionate ration was observed after 12 h of SC treatment and the lowest with FSCS 3% treatment after 24 h. Methane ($CH_4$) emulsion was lower with A. princeps Pampanini cv. Sajabal and spent coffee grounds treatments than with the control, SC, and FSC treatments. These experiments were designed to replace the by-products of dairy cow TMR with SC, FSC, FSCS, and FSCC to improve TMR quality. Condensed tannins contained in FSCS and FSCC treatments, which reduced $CH_4$ emulsion in vitro, decreased rumen microbial fermentation during the early incubation time. Therefore, future experiments are required to develop a rumen continuous culture system and an in vivo test to optimize the percentages of FSC, FSCS, and FSCC in the TMR diet of the dairy cows.

        유지방율과 유단백율 증감이 사료비에 미치는 영향 : 시뮬레이션 모델을 이용한 접근

        This study was conducted to investigate effect of changes in target fat and protein contents in milk on feed cost using a simulation modeling approach based on the 2001 dairy NRC. Two simulations were done; simulation I had a limitation (up to 20%), but simulation II had no limitation for the use of cottonseed hull in a diet. Using commonly used feed ingredients in Korea, we formulated least cost diets that meet nutrient requirement of a lactating dairy cow producing 36 ㎏ of milk with combinations of 0.1% decrease or 0.1% increase in target milk fat or protein, respectively, from the national average milk fat (4.0%) and milk protein (3.1%). The contents of alfalfa and corn in a least-cost diet were decreased and those of tall fescue, whole cottonseed and rapeseed meal were increased with decreasing fat and/or increasing protein in milk. Scenarios that decreased target milk fat percentage from 4.0% to 3.9% reduced feed cost by 2 won per ㎏. Due to decrease in feed intake, daily feed cost was even more reduced (136 won per head) by decreasing target milk fat percentage. Increase in target milk protein percentage from 3.1% to 3.2% reduced feed cost by 6 won per ㎏. Among scenarios simulated, the least feed cost was obtained in scenario aimed for 3.9% fat and 3.2% of protein in milk. We conclude that a feeding practice for increasing milk protein percentage does not directly increase feed cost. In addition, feeding practices that increase protein content in milk is expected to improve economic life-span and reproductive performance of dairy cows.

        배추 부산물의 식이섬유를 첨가한 글루텐프리 튀김 프리믹스의 품질특성

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the quality characteristics of gluten-free frying pre-mix with insoluble dietary fiber powder (IDFP) from Chinese cabbage by-product. Methods: Frying powder mix was prepared with 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0% IDFP. Fried powder mix only whit brown rice powder was used as a control. Spreadability, pick-up ratio and color of batter, texture, moisture and oil contents, oil absorption and sensory evaluation of fried sweet potato were determined. Results: L and a-values of batter decreased with increasing amount of IDFP, whereas b-value increased with IDFP addition. Hardness and crispiness of fried sweet potato increased with IDFP addition until 1.5%. Moisture content of fried sweet potato increased with higher IDFP addition whereas oil content and oil absorption decreased with increasing amount of IDFP. Sensory evaluation of fried sweet potato showed the best results in the 0.5% of IDFP addition group. Conclusion: Overall preference of IDFP samples was significantly higher than that of control. Based on the study, the optimal amount of IDFP for gluten-free fried powder mix was determined to be 0.5-1.5%.

        항균활성 천연물질을 이용한 반추위 메탄저감용 친환경 첨가제 개발

        본 연구는 천연물질에서 유래한 반추위 메탄저감용 친환경 첨가제 개발을 위해 각기 다른 종균을 이용하여 발효한 세신 추출물의 항균활성, 항산화활성 및 in vitro 반추위 발효시험을 체계적으로 실시하였다. 접종된 균주들의 성장효율을 알아보기 위해 실시한 생균수측정 결과 L. curvatus NJ40 균주에서 유의적으로 높은 균주성장을 나타냈다(p<0.05). 항균활성측정 결과는 대조구 대비 L. curvatus NJ40 및 L. plantarum NJ45 균주와 발효된 세신 추출물이 병원균에 대한 항균효과를 나타내는 것으로 조사되었다. In vitro 반추위 발효실험에 세신 및 발효 세신 추출물을 적용한 결과, 휘발성 지방산 생성량 대비 반추위 메탄 저감효과가 나타났다. 특히 반추위 미생물 활력 및 사료이용 효율을 대표할 수 있는 휘발성 지방산 생성효율에 대한 부정적 효과 없이, 오히려 휘발성지방산 생성효율을 향상시키면서 반추위 메탄 저감효과를 가져올 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. The present study was conducted to investigate effective starter culture to improve biological activity of Asarum sieboldii. Antibacterial activity, antioxidant activity and reduction of enteric rumen methane production were used as criterions for biological activity. Ground A. sieboldii was added in MRS broth at 10% (w/v) and fermented by different starter cultures. Weissella confusa NJ28, Weissella cibaria NJ33, Lactobacillus curvatus NJ40, Lactobacillus brevis NJ42, Lactobacillus plantarum NJ45 and Lactobacillus sakei NJ48 were used for starter culture strains. Each starter culture was inoculated with 1% (v/v) ratio and fermentation was performed at $30^{\circ}C$ with agitation (150 rpm) for 48 h. MRS broth for the control was employed without starter culture. Then the fermentation growth was dried and extracted using ethyl alcohol. The growth of starter culture was detected at NJ40, NJ42, NJ45 and NJ48. And the highest cell growth was found in NJ40. Antibacterial activity against to Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogens, Mannheimia haemolytica and Salmonella gallinarum were observed in the extract fermented by NJ40 and NJ45. All treatments showed antioxidant activities, however, there were no significant differences (p>0.05). In in vitro rumen fermentation, negative control (NC) and positive control (PC) were assigned to without extract and with non-fermented A. sieboldii extract. Significant suppression of gas productions were detected in positive control and treatments compared to negative control (p<0.05). However, total volatile fatty acid production was not suppressed. Significant methane reduction per total volatile fatty acid productions were found in positive control and NJ45 treatment (p<0.05). The present study suggested a fermentation of A. sieboldii using NJ45 strain could improve its biological activity and make possible for its use in bio additive for enteric rumen methane mitigation without suppression of animal productivity.

        반추가축영양 : Lignosulfonate처리 대두박의 반추위 내 미생물 발효특성에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 반추가축에 급여되는 사료원 중 종류별, 수준별 lignosulfonate 처리 대두박의 반추위 내 undegradable protein (UDP) 효율을 알아보기 위하여 실험 I 에서 전체 4종의 lignosulfonate (Desulfonated, Na, Ca, Solution)를 각각 수준별 (2, 4, 8%)로 처리하여 전체 12종의 lignosulfoanted soybeanmeal (LSBM)에 대한 반추위 내 미생물 발효 특성의 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 in vitro 시험이 실시되었다. 실험 H에서는 실험 I 에서 대두박의 단백질 보호 효과가 가장 높은 LSBM Na 2% 처리구와 LSBM Solution (LSBM Sol) 2% 처리구 그리고 열처리 LSBM (LSBM Heat) 2%를 이용하여 rumen simulation continuous culture (RSCC) system을 이용한 반추위 내 미생물 발효 특성에 대한 연구가 실시되었다. 시험 I in vitro 시험에서 모든 LSBM 처리구에서 전체 배양시간 평균 pH수준, gas 생성량, NH3-N 농도, 건물소화율, VFA 생성량 그리고 ADF 소화율은 배양시간이 지남에 따라 대조구에 비해 낮은 결과를 나타내었다(p<0.05) 반추위 내 미생물단백질 합성량은 대조구가 LSMB 처리구 보다 통계적으로 높은 결과를 나타내었으며 (p<0.05), LSBM 수준이 증가할수록 반추위 내 미생물 단백질 합성량은 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. UDP 함량은 대조구보다 LSBM 처리구에서 높은 결과를 나타내었으며(p<0.05), 특히 LSBM Sol 처리구는 대조구에 비해 각각 2%, 4% 그리고 8% 처리군에서 11.18%, 11.54% 그리고 29.11%의 UDP 함량이 증가 하였다. 시험 Ⅱ는 RSCC system을 이용하여 반추위 내 미생물 발효특성에 대한 시험이 실시되었다. 시험사료는 대조구와 In vitro 시험 중 대조구와 UDP 효과가 높은 LSBM Na 2%, LSBM Sol 2% 그리고 LSBM Heat 2% 처리한 사료 4처리 4반복(4x4 Latin squire)에 의해 15일간 시험이 실시되었으며, 배양 마지막 3일 동안의 sample을 이용하여 분석을 실시하였다. 전체 배양 기간 중 모든 처리구에서 적응기간 동안 불규칙적인 반추위 미생물 발효 특성을 보였으나 배양 12일 이후 안정된 발효특성을 나타내었다. Sampling 기간 동안의 각 처리간의 평균 pH는 모든 LSBM 처리구에서 대조구보다 높았다(p<0.05). NH3-N 함량, VFA 함량 그리고 반추위 내 미생물 단백질 합성량은 LSBM 처리구가 대조구에 비해 낮은 결과를 나타내었다(p<0.05). UDP 함량은 대조구, LSBM Heat 2%, LSBM Na 2% 그리고 LSBM Sol 2%에서 각 41.55, 43.49, 45.28 그리고 43.52%로 모든 LSBM 처리구가 대조구에 비해 유의하게 높은 경향을 나타내였다(p<0.05). 시험 I 과 시험Ⅱ에서 UDP 함량은 LSBM 처리구에서 lignosulfonate 처리 수준이 증가할수록 증가하는 경향을 나타내었고, 모든 LSBM 처리구는 대조구에 비해 높은 UDP 함량을 나타내었다. 이와 같은 결과는 사료원으로써 대두박에 대한 lignosulfonate 처리가 coating 작용과 열처리에 의한 물리·화학적 효과로 인하여 대두박의 단백질 분해율을 저해 시킨 것으로 사료된다. 그러나 LSBM 처리군 중 건물소화율과 반추위 내 미생물단백질 합성량은 LSBM 2% 처리구에서 가장 높은 결과를 나타내였다. 따라서, 반추가축 사료내 LSBM 첨가가 In vitro와 RSCC system을 이용한 반추위내 미생물발효 특성 시험에서 반추위 내에서 by-pass protein 함량을 증가시키는 결과를 나타내었으며, 추후 착유우를 이용한 LSBM 급여를 시험을 통하여 유단백질 증진효과에 대하여 추가적인 평가가 이루어져야 할 것으로 사료된다. This study was conducted to investigate the effects on fermentation characteristics of rumen microorganism by different types and levels of lignosulfonate treated soybean meal (LSBM) in in vitro test and rumen simulation continuous culture (RSCC) system in dairy cows. The experiment I was control and 12 treatments (each with 3 replications) in vitro test to demonstrate composition of different types of treatments with lignosulfonate (Desulfonate, Na, Ca and solution) and levels (2, 4 and 8%) of soybean meal in the dairy cow diet. LSBM source treatments in the dairy cow diet showed pH value, NH)-N concentration and total YF A concentration lower than control at all levels and incubation times (p<0.05). Dry matter digestibility of LSBM source treatments showed lower than control (p<0.05). Gas production and rumen microbial synthesis was decreased by rumen microbial fermentation for incubation times. Undegradable protein (UDP) concentration of all LSBM treatments was decreased for incubation times, and significantly higher than control (p<0.05). In the experiment Il compared diets of the control, LSBM Na 2%, LSBM Sol 2%, which are high performance to Undegradable protein (UOP) concentration experiment I in vitro test, and heated treatment Iignosulfonate (LSBM Heat) 2% in the dairy cow diet from four station RSCC system (4x4 Latin square). A rumen microbial fermentation characteristic was stability during 12-15 days of experimental period in all treatments. The pH value of LSBM treatments was higher than control treatment (p<0.05). The NH)-N concentration, YFA concentration and rumen microbial synthesis of LSBM treatments were lower than control (p<0.05). The undegradable protein (UDP) showed LSBM Na 2% (45.28%), LSBM Sol 2% (43.52%) and LSBM Heat 2% (43.49%) higher than control (41.55%), respectively (p<0.05). Those experiments were designed to improve by-pass protein of diet and milk protein in the dairy cows. We will conduct those experiments the in vivo test by LSBM treatments in dairy cows diet.

        ${\beta}$-Mannanase (CTCZYME$^{(R)}$) 첨가가 어린 송아지의 성장에 미치는 영향

        The objective of this study was to evaluate effects of supplementation of ${\beta}$-mannanase (CTCZYME$^{(R)}$, CTCBIO, Inc.) on feed intake, growth performance and fecal health of calves fed two levels (3% vs. 8%) of palm kernel meal (PKM). A total of nine Holstein calves were divided into three groups, and fed a conventional starter containing 3% PKM (CON), CON+0.1% CTCZYME$^{(R)}$ (TRT1), or a starter containing 8% PKM+0.1% CTCZYME$^{(R)}$ (TRT2). No clinical symptom of calves was observed through the trial. We did not find significant differences among the treatments on mean feed intake, growth performance, or fecal health during the four-week experimental period. Feed efficiency tended to be improved by adding CTCZYME$^{(R)}$ (0.46, 0.87 and 0.52 for CON, TRT1 and TRT2, respectively). Compared with CON (921 g/d and 786 g/d), TRT2 had lower feed intake (727 g/d) and average daily gain (ADG, 631 g/d) before weaning. However, feed intake (2300 g/d) and ADG (1012 g/d) were similar or even higher in TRT2 than CON (2269 g/d and 560 g/d) after weaning. This was probably due to the effect of a large amount of mannan-oligosaccharide released from PKM by ${\beta}$-mannanase. Salmonella was not detected any fecal samples. No significant difference was observed in the number of fecal E. coli or fecal properties including color, smell, and watery indexes among the treatments. We conclude that a calf starter containing 8% PKM with 0.1% CTCZYME$^{(R)}$ is comparable with a conventional starter in feed intake and growth performance of calf, which is beneficial in terms of reduction in feed cost.

        본 시험은 산양유 생산을 위해 유기사료를 이용하여 유산양의 적정 에너지 및 단백질 공급 수준과 조농비율을 결정하기 위하여 비유중기 Saanen종 유산양 4두(57.5±10.8 ㎏ BW)를 이용하여 4 × 4 라틴방각법으로 실시하였다. 대사에너지 공급수준과 단백질 공급수준을 10.59 (T1), 10.14 (T2), 9.45 (T3) 및 8.75 (T4) MJ/㎏과 11.90 (T1), 12.73 (T2), 15.19 (T3) 및 16.60% (T4)로 달리하였으며, 조농비율은 49:51 (T1), 59:41 (T2), 74:26 (T3) 및 90:10 (T4)의 네 처리구로 나누었다. 사료 섭취량 및 체중은 모든 처리구 사이의 유의한 차이가 없었다. 유량은 T3구에서 가장 높았으며, T2 및 T4구와 비교하여 유의하게 높게 나타났다 (p<0.05). 유지방함량과 생산량은 T4구에서 다른 처리구와 비교하여 가장 낮았다 (p<0.05). 유단백질과 유당 생산량은 T1 (61.29 및 70.95 g/일)과 T3 (60.52 및 75.82 g/일)구에서 T2 (50.49 및 59.64 g/일)와 T4 (52.49 및 59.82 g/일)구와 비교하여 유의하게 높게 나타났다. 결과적으로 유산양의 유생산성을 극대화시키기 위해서 에너지 공급수준은 최소 9 MJ/㎏ 이상과 단백질 공급수준은 최소 15% 이상을 공급해 주어야할 것으로 기대된다. The study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary energy and protein levels on milk production in Saanen (Capra hircus) dairy goats fed the diets with the different ratio of forage and concentrate. Four lactating goats in mid lactation (57.5±10.79 ㎏ BW) were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square with 21-d periods. Animals were randomly allocated to one of the four groups; 10.59 MJ ME/kg and 11.90% CP (T1), 10.14 MJ ME/㎏ and 12.73% CP (T2), 9.45 MJ ME/㎏ and 15.19% CP (T3), 8.75 MJ ME/㎏ and 16.60% CP DM (T4). Also ratio of forage to concentrate was 49 : 51 (T1), 59 : 41 (T2), 74 : 26 (T3) and 90 : 10 (T4). Intakes of forage and concentrate were linearly increased (p<0.05) with their increasing energy levels in the diets. No significant differences were found in total dry matter intake and body weight between treatments. Milk yield in T3 was the highest among treatments (p<0.05). Relative to other treatments, T4 significantly (p<0.05) decreased the content of milk fat. The yields of milk protein and lactose in T1 (61.29 and 70.95 g/d) and T3 (60.52 and 75.82 g/d) were significantly higher (p<0.05) than T2 (50.49 and 59.64 g/d) and T4 (52.49 and 59.82 g/d). This study suggested that the minimum dietary level of energy and protein was 9 MJ ME/kg and 15% CP in mid lactation Saanen dairy goats.

        β-Mannanase (CTCZYME<SUP>®</SUP>) 첨가가 어린 송아지의 성장에 미치는 영향

        The objective of this study was to evaluate effects of supplementation of β-mannanase (CTCZYME<SUP>ⓡ</SUP>, CTCBIO, Inc.) on feed intake, growth performance and fecal health of calves fed two levels (3% vs. 8%) of palm kernel meal (PKM). A total of nine Holstein calves were divided into three groups, and fed a conventional starter containing 3% PKM (CON), CON+ 0.1% CTCZYME <SUP>ⓡ</SUP> (TRT1), or a starter containing 8% PKM+ 0.1% CTCZYME<SUP>ⓡ</SUP> (TRT2). No clinical symptom of calves was observed through the trial. We did not find significant differences among the treatments on mean feed intake, growth performance, or fecal health during the four-week experimental period. Feed efficiency tended to be improved by adding CTCZYME<SUP>ⓡ</SUP> (0.46, 0.87 and 0.52 for CON, TRT1 and TRT2, respectively). Compared with CON (921 g/d and 786 g/d), TRT2 had lower feed intake (727 g/d) and average daily gain (ADG, 631 g/d) before weaning. However, feed intake (2300 g/d) and ADG (1012 g/d) were similar or even higher in TRT2 than CON (2269 g/d and 560 g/d) after weaning. This was probably due to the effect of a large amount of mannan-oligosaccharide released from PKM by β-mannanase. Salmonella was not detected any fecal samples. No significant difference was observed in the number of fecal E. coli or fecal properties including color, smell, and watery indexes among the treatments. We conclude that a calf starter containing 8% PKM with 0.1% CTCZYME<SUP>ⓡ</SUP> is comparable with a conventional starter in feed intake and growth performance of calf, which is beneficial in terms of reduction in feed cost.
