Evolution of galaxies through galaxy-galaxy interactions

I review the dependence of galaxy properties on environmental parameters such as the local density, nearest neighbor distance and morphology. We find that a galaxy with an early- or late-type nearest companion within its virial radius tends to be an early or late type, respectively. The morphology of galaxies located in high density regions tends to be the same as that of the ones in low density regions if their luminosity and the nearest neighbor environment are the same. This strongly supports that galaxy morphology and luminosity evolution have been driven mainly by galaxy-galaxy interactions, and the background density affected morphology and luminosity only through the frequency of interactions.

The National Foundation Day of Korea (개천절, 開天節) is currently celebrated on October 3 in Gregorian calendar. We review the history of dating the National Foundation Day of Korea and make a suggestion that it be celebrated on October 3 in the lunar calendar. We present numerous historical records on heaven-worship rites supporting the date October 3 in the lunar calendar. It is pointed out that October 3 in the solar calendar has been adopted in 1949 by the National Assembly with the thought that the lunar calendar is inferior and behind the times. The thought originates from misunderstanding on the value of the lunar calendar and from the ignorance of importance of history and tradition. Since there are now many national holidays that follow the lunar calendar, the logic of the National Assembly in 1949 also makes no sense. We emphasize that the lunar calendar should be followed for the National Foundation Day of Korea for its historical and symbolic characteristics restoration. We also investigate the year of the foundation of the first country of Korea, Dangun Joseon. It is found that even though the majority of the literature before late 15th century recorded the beginning year of Dangun Joseon dynasty to be equal to that of Liao Dynasty (堯), it was accidentally changed to the 25th year of Liao Dynasty in 1484 through a misinterpretation of the previous records. We claim that the beginning year of Dangun Joseon should be set to that of Liao Dynasty as recorded in the original literature in the earlier days. According to the two main opinions accepted by Korea, the beginning year of Liao Dynasty was 2357 B.C. or 2333 B.C., which correspond to the year of Gap-Jin (the 41st year of the sexagenary cycle) or Mu-Jin (the 4th year of the sexagenary cycle), respectively.

We present a precision instrument amplifier (IA) designed for bio-potential acquisition. The proposed IA employs a capacitively coupled instrument amplifier (CCIA) structure to achieve a rail-to-rail input common-mode range and low gain error. A positive feedback loop is applied to boost the input impedance. Also, DC servo loop (DSL) with pseudo resistors is adopted to suppress electrode offset for bio-potential sensing. The proposed amplifier was designed in a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology with 1.8V supply voltage. Simulation results show the integrated noise of $1.276{\mu}Vrms$ in a frequency range from 0.01 Hz to 1 KHz, 65dB SNR, 118dB CMRR, and $58M{\Omega}$ input impedance respectively. The total current of IA is $38{\mu}A$. It occupies $740{\mu}m$ by $1300{\mu}m$ including the passive on-chip low pass filter.

대결 및 타협의 정신과 비대칭적 사랑 - 박경리의 초기 장편 『애가』와 『표류도』, 『성녀와 마녀』를 중심으로 -

이 논문은 박경리의 초기 장편을 검토한다. 초기 장편은 연애가 서사의 중심이고, 인물들은 대체로 사랑과 삶 가운데 어느 하나를 택해야 하는 상황에 놓인다. 이러한 구도는 인물들에게 사랑을 잃고 삶을 얻거나 세상과의 단절을 감수하고 사랑을 취하는 선택지를 강요한다. 사랑을 좇는 인물들은 어느 순간 세계와 맞선 이전의 비타협적 의지를 잃는다. 반면 삶을 택한 인물은 사랑에 적대적인 세상에 적응을 선언하고 타협을 도모한다. 이들이 선택한 여정 끝에는 우리의 실상이 인간 너머의 초월적 힘과 원리에 구속될 수밖에 없고, 그래서 '바라는 대로 살 수 없다'는 비관적 풍경이 조성되어 있다. 그럼에도 박경리는 삶의 당위를 옹호하는데, 생명의 이치와 자연의 섭리가 불화할 수밖에 없는 세속과의 화해 및 속물적 세계를 살아낼 근거를 마련해준다. 박경리의 연애서사는 대체로 비대칭적 경로를 보이는데, 사랑과 삶의 양립 불가능성을 형식적으로 구현하고 있는 것이 바로 사랑의 비대칭적 양상이다. 복잡하게 전개되는 비대칭적 사랑의 양상은 죽음과 감정의 자연 소진이라는 두 방식으로 해소된다는 점에서 운명적 사랑에 직면한 인물들은 수동적으로 반응할 수밖에 없다. 하지만 박경리는 사랑과 연애에 질서 및 조화를 주문하는데, 이는 생존이라는 지상과제를 위해 ‘적응’을 최우선적 덕목으로 내세웠던 것처럼, 인간 의지로서는 어찌할 수 없는 숙명인 사랑의 사태에 대처하려는 타협 정신의 소산이다. 박경리의 인물들에게 사랑을 한다는 것은 삶의 조건과 생의 본질을 검토하는 일이었다. 초기 단편이 부정한 세계에 맞서는 대결정신을 부각했다면, 초기 장편은 세속과의 타협 및 화해의 정신이 돌올하다. 이는 현실에 대한 투항 및 순응으로 폄하될 수 없다. 세속과 더불어 살되 세속과 그 이치를 절대시하지 않는 삶의 자세를 견지하고 있기 때문이다. In this article, the early novels by Park Kyung-Li were reviewed. The early novels focused on the love, and the characters are put under the situation to choose either love or life. This plot forces the characters to choose either the life losing love or the love disconnecting from the world. The characters who chose love lose the previous uncompromising will confronting the world while the characters who chose the life declare adaptation to the hostile world and try to compromise. At the end of journey that they chose, the pessimistic view is formed that our life cannot but be bound to the transcendental power and principle beyond the human being, and therefore, we cannot life as we want. Nevertheless, Park Kyung-Li advocated the ought-to-be of life, which prepares the basis to compromise with the mundane world where the logic of life cannot but be in discord with the provision of nature and to live in the materialistic world. The love narratives by Park Kyung-Li showed mostly asymmetric path and it is the asymmetric pattern that the incompatibility between the love and the life is materialized formally. In the aspect that the asymmetric pattern of love, which is developed complexly, is settled down with two method of death and natural exhaustion of emotion, the characters who faced with the fateful love cannot ut respond passively. However, Park Kyung-Li demands the order and harmony to the love, which is the product of spirit of compromise that tries to cope with the fateful love irresistible with the will of human. For the characters of Park Kyung-Li, to love someone is to review the condition of life and the nature of life. If the early short stories emphasized the spirit of confrontation that confronted the unfair mundane world, the early novels distingshed with the spirit of compromise with the mundane world and of the reconciliation. which cannot be disparaged as adaptation since it is living together with the mundane world embracing it. "The Land (Toji)" is the result that such matured attitude shown in the early novels was deepened.

한국어의 영어 어두 파열음 차용 양상에 대한 음운론적 접근

The purpose of this study is to provide an explicit account for English loanword adaptation in Korean with word-initial stops within the framework of Optimality Theory. English word- initial stops are adopted in Korean in different ways depending on their voice features. Thus, voiceless stops are always adopted as aspirated stops, while voiced stops are adopted as free-variation between lax and tensed voiceless stops in Korean. Based on the analysis of various data regarding the issue and an in-depth review of the literature in the research field, this study shows that the puzzling behavior of word-initial stops in adaptation can best be elucidated by postulating additional loanword grammar in Korean and employing two different approaches: (ⅰ) retreat to the unmarked (Kenstowicz, 2005), and (ⅱ) differential faithfulness (Broselow, 2009). The former is formalized by the promotion of the markedness constraint *Stop[-sg] which demands aspirated stops, and the latter is formalized by the constraint conjunction of the faithfulness such as Faith[voice] and Faith[sg].

'Dae-Bang building' is new structural style in Seoul and Kyongki province's royal buddhist temples in the 19 century of Cho-Sun. This study is to look into the modem inclination in 'Dae-Bang building' from the viewpoint of three parts; ideology&sociology, function, and the technique. As a result of this study, we could know the modernity in 'Bee-bang building' as follows. From a functional point of view, it has big functional changes and multiple functions such as preaching, mediation, dining, nunnery and introduce reception room and storage. From a technical point of view, we could look into the construction method of palace and pavilion in ㅓ, 工 type of 'Dae-Bang building', and the other modem characters such as simple bracket arms and lattice.

This paper is aimed to clarify the type and its characteristics of wooden roof truss in modern age of Korea focused 64 architectural properties. These are largely classified with traditional korean and japanese roof structure, western king and queen post roof truss, and so on. The roof structure of korean architecture have been evolved into combining traditional wooden structure(rafter) with wooden roof truss. Korean carpenters have tried to improve wood structure by using the principal rafter, bracing, and tie beam, and had continually efforts to receive the roof style of west. The king and queen post roof truss are respectively classified with 3 types by the roof span. The king post roof trusses are composed with the principal rafter, tie beam, strut, braces, purlins, and so on. They are spanning up to about 4.5-8m, 9-12m, 12.5-16.2m, each of them has 6, 4, 2 struts and lattice members But there are practically no 6 struts and lattice members in the king post roof truss of wooden architectural properties. The queen post roof trusses enable the construction of the very large span than the king post roof trusses, the knee brace are used when bay is more than 5m between the queen posts. An further innovation was the use of iron tie bars in lieu of timber for tensile lattice members in the trusses.
