Generally transmission(T/M) for heavy duty truck has many shifting levels and is prone to suffer a lot of physical stress compared to passenger car. In addition, pursuing driver's convenience makes the operation process of shifting knob simple and this trend could lead T/M to be seriously damaged by wrong shifting T/M level from high to low. Therefore heavy duty vehicles should have protection mechanism for T/M due to all these factors that could cause breakdown. In this study, we investigated the way to protect T/M for heavy duty vehicles with shifting process simplified and the estimation results are presented by applying the methods to real heavy duty vehicles.
