Single crystals of pure Magnesium, Mg-1 Y, and Mg-1Ce alloy were successfully fabricated in this study by employing the modified Bridgman method. To determine the exact orientation of crystals, Laue back-reflection method and pole figure measurement were carried out on each single crystal. Dimensions of single crystals were 10 mm in diameter and 120 mm in length. Hardness and compression tests were conducted and the results revealed that hardness and the strength strongly depended on the orientation. The closer to basal one the orientation was, the higher hardness and compressive strength were. The effect of alloying was not higher than that of orientation. After compressive deformation of single crystals, the orientation of the crystals was found to rotate and to be parallel to the basal orientation. In this study, the anisotropic diffusion behavior of Al and Zn in Mg was also investigated using diffusion couple technique with single crystal of pure Mg at the temperatures ranging from 365 to 420℃ for Al and from 280 to 330℃ for Zn. The diffusion coefficients of Al and Zn within the basal plane are about 1.3 and 1.23 times, respectively, greater than that along normal direction of basal plane at the experimental temperatures.

In most cases, EER(Energy Efficiency Ratio) is available to present energy efficiency of air-conditioners. But, EER is not adapt to measure energy efficiency at actual life environment because it is based on fixed temperature and humidity contditions. To overcome this disadvantage, there is need to introduce SEER(Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) established at time varient temperature and humidity conditions. In this paper, SEER measurement method and conditions based on actual life environment of the country is introduced, and discussed SEER value about two air-conditioner type, that is, non inverter air-conditioner and inverter air-conditioner. As a result of, inverter air-conditioner was superior to non inverter air-conditioner at cooling seasonal energy efficiency.
