Vol.22 No.3

This thesis intend to help the eastern medical doctor to understand body condition from interpretation of perspirations(汗出) in daily time cycle. The conclusion is followed. 1. In most Eastern Medical classic and clinic literatures, the time of fever and perspirations are described as a result of disease's position at human body. Following this description, in daytime the perspirations must come from the Gi phase and night time the perspirations must come from the blood phase. Because in daytime the skin pores are opening and the defensive Gi is going out to the superficial portion of the body. In night time the skin pores are shutting and the defensive Gi is going in to the five solid organs. So a sweat in daytime comes out from the Gi phase and superficial portion of the body. And in night time comes out from the blood phase and five solid organs. But in recent real clinic cases, in daytime, there are so many perspirations from the five solid organs. Comparatively, the perspirations from the superficial portion of body are very little. And in same daytime perspirations, when the heat pathogens mixed with moist, the symptom revelation time delay to the afternoon. Therefore it can be concluded that the time of perspirations are combination of disease's Gi or blood phase and characteristics of pathogens. The position of disease at human body cannot simply judge the symptom revelation time. 2. The exchange of climate following time cycle of a day effect to the condition of human body. At same time it activates or not activates the pathogens in human body. So we can consider the kinds and characteristics of pathogens by distinguishing the symptom revelation time. In general differentiation of syndromes[辨證] pathogen's kinds and location are generally judged. By understanding the characteristics of pathogen, doctor can devise more correct and delicate prescription.

Vol.22 No.1

For having good therapeutic value, putting the ideal of diagnosis and treatment based on overall analysis of symptoms and signs[辨證施治] into practice is very important, so the Eastern Medicine`s peculiar diagnosis without interference by the western medical diagnosis is very important. The peculiar method of Eastern Medicine`s diagnosis is four methods of diagnosis(四診法), a joint term for inspection, auscultation and olfaction, interrogation, pulse feeling and palpation. In the process of interrogation[問診], from analyzing the perspiration phase, doctor can get various physical information. Especially perspiration from particular region can be a clue for founding focus or cause of disease. This thesis divide the phase of perspiration into eight bodily region, perspiration from all body, head, face, back, chest and armpit, stomach, pubic region and lower part, hands and feet, and inquire the possible causes and principles of these perspirations. In conclusion, the regional perspiration can be a clue point out the origin of fever and condition of Gi(氣) flow. Perspiration from head, back, chest and armpit, hands and feet means that certain fever cannot extend to the outside of body, and at the same time, means the Gi(氣) flow of outside is being intercepted. So the perspirations from that region become an object of medical treatment.

Vol.24 No.1

The cough is generally known as a symptom occurred from Lung. But it was descriptive of the symptom every internal organs can cause in 『HwangjenaegyeongSomun·Haelon』. The reason is that, when a pathogenic Gi attack human body, the body skin which have the relationship to Lung is attacked firstly. But the internal organs preside over each seasons of the year, so the season`s presiding organ is ultimately attacked. And in 『Somun·Haelon』the partner symptoms of five solid organs cough and six hollow organs cough are being described, so we can distinguish between each internal organs coughs. Clinically, the cough is most common symptom and one of the most difficult symptom. In my opinion, the origin organ of cough is very various, but the doctor fix their thinking to the Lung, so the cough became a most difficult symptom. This thesis describe pathogenesis and partner symptoms of five solid organs cough and six hollow organs cough. And illustrate clinical examples and some medical prescriptions. Intend to show that various treatment after differentiation of syndromes[辨證施治] surely needed for effective curing of a cough.

Vol.33 No.4

Objectives : This paper aims to understand the meaning and utilitarian values of Jongyong(從容)’ in medicine by studying its meaning in the 『Huangdineijing』. Methods : Examples of Jongyong(從容)’ usages in Chinese literature and classical texts were studied first. Next, the similarities and characteristics of its contexts in discourses between Leigong and Huangdi were examined, followed by further examination of the overall meanings of the six chapters, 「Shicongronglunpian(示從容論篇)」, 「Zhuzhijiaolunpian(著至敎論篇)」, 「Shuwuguolunpian(疏五過論篇)」, 「Zhengsishilunpian(徵四失論篇)」, 「Yinyangleilunpian(陰陽類論篇)」, 「Jiejingweilunpian(解精微論篇)」 and the verses that include Jongyong(從容).’ Results : Generally Jongyong(從容)’ describes a resilient attitude that responds appropriately and calmly to difficult external situations while maintaining one s character, or refers to one s general behavior. In the 『Huangdineijing』, Jongyong(從容)’ is only mentioned in discourses between Leigong and Huangdi, which talks about ancient East Asian clinical medicine in general, its transmission and education. Here, the meaning of Jongyong(從容)’ could be summarized as an expansion of analogical thinking[引比類], medical work that involves the physician s commitment(人事), and detailed measurement of yinyang difference in the body(刑法, 陰陽, 治數). Discussion : In ancient East Asian medicine, the meaning of Jongyong(從容)’ is closer to measurement of the yinyang difference rather than differentiation of the five element analogy. It is a medical practice that measures the shape, volume, length, area, height, concentration etc. of the human body in numerical figures to allow for the most subtle comparison, which was an important aspect of the physician s work that needed to be demonstrated, educated and transmitted to later generations to enable continuity of the medical profession.

Subject: The physiological characteristic of Eight Extra Meridians. Objective: This study research physiological characteristic of Eight Extra Meridians that differentiate from the physiological characteristic of Twelve Regular Meridians. Method: First, we researched the meaning of "There are Eight Extra Meridians and they don`t be arrested by Twelve Regular Meridians" in Nanjing 27Nan compared with the contents of regular Meridians circulation in Huangdineijing. Second, we studied on the origin of Eight Extra Meridians and researched their route. Third, from these researches we drew some physiological characteristics of Eight Extra Meridians. Conclusion: In Huangdineijing, the regular Meridians circulation include the route of Governor Meridian, Conception Meridian, and Heel Meridian. So the sentence in Nanjing 27Nan is contradictory to the contents of Huangdineijing. The origin of Eight Extra Meridians could be found in Huangdineijing. The collateral Meridians of the Uterus and Epiglottis Meridian are specifically formulated to supplying for the Uterus or Epiglottis. Eight Extra Meridians have third qualities of Meridian, collateral Meridian, and the solid viscera keep the Essence Gi, so named ``Extra``. And they have an intimate association with Extraordinary Organs. They place at the middle axis of human body, thus do higher physiological function that control and regulate the function of Twelve Regular Meridians and Five Viscera & six Bowels for adaptation to the environment.

Vol.27 No.2

Subject : The Association between Extraordinary Organs(奇恒之腑) and Eight Extra Meridians(奇經 八脈). Objectives : This study research some special aspects of Extraordinary Organs and Eight Extra Meridians which differentiated from ordinary Organs and Meridians, and the association between Extraordinary Organs and Eight Extra Meridians. Methods : First, researched classification standard and physiological characteristics of Extraordinary Organs through studying various chapters of HuangdiNeijing. Second, researched The Association between Extraordinary Organs and Eight Extra Meridians through studying on the origin of Eight Extra Meridians in HuangdiNeijing. Third, from accompanying researching the subject of Cheon-gye(天癸) and human body shape, draw synthetic hypothesis on the relationship among ordinary Meridians and Organs, muscles and skins of body shape, Extraordinary Organs and Eight Extra Meridians. Results & Conclusions : The following conclusions could be drawn. 1. Extraordinary Organs afford background for shaping human body. This is same as the properties of the earth which afford background for shaping all creations. The physiological characteristics of Extraordinary Organs is intermediation and regulation between Ki(氣) of Five Viscera & six Bowels and shape of muscles & skins in human body. 2. The origin of Eight Extra Meridians could be found in HuangdiNeijing. The collateral Meridians of the Uterus and Epiglottis Meridian are specifically formulated to supplying for the Uterus or Epiglottis. From this we can draw The Association between Extraordinary Organs and Eight Extra Meridians, that is Eight Extra Meridians are specifically formulated to supplying for Extraordinary Organs. 3. The Cheon-gye(天癸) is doing significant function in Eight Extra Meridians supplying for Extraordinary Organs. Cheon-gye concerned to growth, secondary sexual characters, generative function, aging process. Theses are all concerned with the changing of human body shape. Cheon-gye urge to change the body shape with following the human life cycle. 4. Human body has vertical symmetry because preserve its shape from the gravitational force. Eight Extra Meridians place at the middle or flank axis of human body, thus do physiological function that assistant human body have vertical symmetry shape. The purpose of shaping vertical symmetry is securing space what the inner Twelve Regular Meridians and Five Viscera & six Bowels create there own physical changes. On the other hand the inner changes need deviation between left and right because of mobility and circulation of force. But human body change the shape in the process of growth, reproduction, aging. Eight Extra Meridians play role at time of these processing, thus they deeply concerned to human’s life cycle and reproduction. 5. Eight Extra Meridians and Extraordinary Organs were named ‘Extra’ because of some special aspects which differentiated from ordinary Meridians and Organs. All they play role to have vertical symmetry shape of human body and maintain the shape, thus they deeply concerned to the change of human life cycle. These shaping maintaining and the change of human life cycle are very special aspects of human body. So they needed to differently cognize separate to the ordinary changes of Five Viscera & six Bowels and Twelve Meridians at inner space.
