Objectives This study aimed to evaluate reliability of questionnaire when self reporting questionnaire created by Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine was applied to Vietnamese. Methods This study began to collect 135 Vietnamese patients questionnaires collaborated with National Hospital of Traditional Medicine located in Hanoi, Vietnam from March to August 2013. All participants for this study filled out the questionnaires respectively. After initial survey finished, additional survey was performed on the same questionnaires used at the beginning eight weeks later. In order to evaluate internal coherence in terms of questionnaires of classification, Cronbach's alpha and Cohen's kappa was measured. Results After analysis of 78 questions collected, less than 0.4 in Kappa was achieved by 21(26.9%) out of 78 questions, 0.4 to 0.75 Kappa by 49(62.8%) and 0.75 over in 5(6.5%) questions, respectively. More than 0.6 Cronbach's alpha was defined from 41 out of 78 questions connected with internal coherence of character, digestion, perspiration, excrement, urine, cold and heat. Conclusions The questionnaire has credibility according to values of Kappa and Cronbach's alpha. Therefore, Sasang Constitution questionnaire can be applied to Sasang Diagnosis. In order to increase usefulness, questions in questionnaire should be revised and validity study must be performed afterwards.

Objectives In Sasang Constitutional medicine(SCM), it is an important factor to assess the degree of cold/heat and healthy status. We purposed to check the agreement among the experts on the assessment of cold/heat and healthy status. Methods Six SCM experts and 10 healthy volunteers were recruited for this study. The SCM experts had an interviewed with each volunteer in the similar condition like that of the actual clinic. And then the expert evaluated each volunteer's cold/heat and healthy status. Intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC) was used to measure the interrater reliability and interrater agreement among the experts. Results Two volunteers are excluded due to the missing data, therefore eight persons' data (3 males and 5 females) were included in our analysis. The mean of age and BMI are 21.73(${\pm}2.32$) and 29.63(${\pm}4.66$), respectively. In health status, cold status and heat status, the ICC was 0.789, 0.904, 0.925, respectively. Conclusions We found that the assessment of cold/heat and healthy status was continued reliable among SCM experts. The assessment of cold/heat status was more consistent than the assessment of healthy status.

This work aimed to investigate differentiations of Korean medicine`s pathological symptoms and SF-12 sub scales among normal, overweight and obese subjects from multi-center case report. Methods: From 2009 to 2011 survey were carried out to 1,589 subjects who took treatment or were hospitalized in 7 Korean medicine hospitals and 3 Korean medicine clinic. Survey include Korean medicine`s pathological symptoms and SF-12. Whole survey were obtained from subjects with interviewers. Obesity degree was divided into three groups by body mass index: Normal group is from 18.5 below 23, overweight from 23 below 25 and obese group is over 25. Chi-square test was performed to reveal differentiation response rate of pathologic symptoms among obesity groups. ANOVA test was carried out for compare each group`s SF-12 sub scales. Results: Patients of overweight or obesity have more symptoms such as skin itching, swelling, weakness in lower legs, and feverish with swollen joints. Contrary, normal weight group responded symptoms of dry skin more than those of obese group. As a fatigue, obese group have more fatigue feeling at afternoon and evening, compared to high frequency response of normal weight groups` morning fatigue. Obese groups shows low physical scores of health related quality of life, in contrast, high mental scores of that. Conclusions: This is first work of pathologic symptoms shown by obese groups. This would contribute to standardization of Korean medicine`s pattern identification as suggestion of classification point for obese groups.

Objectives This study was performed to make a short-form of Sasang Constitution Questionnaire for Patient(SSCQ-P). Methods In order to select important questions of SSCQ-P, we got advice from 10 professors of Oriental Medicine. As a result, we chose 37 questions. In addition, we selected 69 questions which had been used more than 12 times in SSCQ-P as the variable. We used some statistical methods to reduce questions. Finally, a total of 40 questions were selected. To find diagnostic accuracy rate of this short-form, discriminant analysis was performed. We used 1378 cases which was collect ed from February 2008 to June 2013 by online system(Sasang-medi data which has selected by web site, http://www.sasangmedi.or.kr), and 68 cases which was collected from November 2006 to September 2007 by the research "Construction of a biological information collection system for the Constitutional scientific diagnosis"(Korea Constitutional Multicenter Bank data, KCMB data) Results We made a short-form of SSCQ-P consisting of 40 questions. Diagnostic accuracy rate of short-form is 66.18% using Sasang-medi data, and 42.65% using KCMB data. Conclusions More cases are needed to improve the diagnostic accuracy rate of this short-form.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the reliability and validity of the questionnaire of pattern identification (PI) in traditional chinese medicine (TCM), through the systematic review of china national knowledge infrastructure (CNKI) database. We searched the articles related with reliability and validity of the questionnaire of PI and published from January 1994 to December 2013. Seventeen questionnaires were analyzed in this study. The twelve (70.6%) questionnaires were developed on the base of specific disease, and five (29.4%) ones were developed on the base of non-specific disease. Three of PI questionnaires showed low inter-item consistency reliability. Exploratory factor analysis of construct validity, content validity, and criterion validity analysis were commonly used on the assessment of validity, but none of them was analysed at the same study. There was only one questionnaire of the ischemic stroke that examined the sensitivity and specificity of both training and test groups in spite of the absence of a gold standard.

Objectives : The present study examines the domestic trend of Chuna treatments on lumbar spinal disorder in Korea. Methods : We investigated the studies on Chuna treatments for lumbar spinal disorder via searching 10 Korean web databases. As a result, 63 research papers were found to be analyzed according to their published year, the titles of journals, the types of study, the techniques of Chuna, the instruments for assessment, the Chuna technique and the number of the treatment trials by the cases of lumbar spinal disorder and ethical approvals. Results : The number of the research papers published tends to increase every year. The studies on Chuna treatments were mainly published in The Journal of Korea CHUNA Manual Medicine for Spine & Nerves. The most frequently adopted technique of Chuna in the examined studies was Cox flexion & distraction technique. Visual analogue scale(VAS), oswestry disability questionnaire(ODI) were used as primary means of assessments. The ethical problems of the examined studies needed to be improved. Conclusion : Reviewing the domestic trend of studies on Chuna treatments for lumbar spinal disorder and examining the strong and weak points of those treatments are essential for the future studies. It is anticipated that this review benefits the future in-depth study on the treatments for Chuna in Korean medicine.
