When the circle inscribed in a square is projected to a picture plane, one sees, in general, an ellipse in a convex quadrilateral. This ellipse is poorly described in the works of Alberti and Durer. There are one parameter family of ellipses inscribed in a convex quadrilateral. Among them only one ellipse is the perspective image of the circle inscribed in the square. We call this ellipse "the projected ellipse." One can easily find the four tangential points of the projected ellipse and the quadrilateral. Then we show how to find the center of the projected ellipse. Finally, we describe a pair of conjugate vectors for the projected ellipse, which finishes the construction of the desired ellipse. Using this algorithm, one can draw the perspective image of the squared-circle tiling.

This paper analyzes a pattern of growth in the Western German regions between 1975 and 1996, paying attention to any change of growth pattern since the German unification. We show that regional Gini Coefficient, newly introduced in this paper, and Generalized Entrophy Coefficient do not back up the conventional argument that income gap has recently been widened within Western German regions. We can, however, provide a plausible explanation that the two competing arguments of regional convergence/divergence are compatible, by showing that dramatic changes in 1990s happened mainly in the regions of the least and the highest 10% income quotients. Decomposition of income inequality by industry tells that market service has played a major role in enlarging regional disparity but that agriculture has played in the other way around.

In this study, Theoretical studies have been performed for drainage characteristics, low consolidation rate of sandmat and prefabricated horizontal drains(PHDs). The PHDs are adopted to substitute for sandmat at domestic highway construction sites. Instrumentation is conducted to investigation the drainage capacity and applicability of PHDs.
