Purpose: To evaluate the inhibitory effect of tranilast on the formation of posterior capsular opacity (PCO) after a cataract operation ex vivo and in a rabbit model. Methods: A human lens epithelial cell line (B3) was treated with 0.005-0.1 mM tranilast. Cytotoxicity assessment and effective dosage determination of tranilast were performed using MTT assays. B3 cell lines were cultured in Eagle's minimal essential medium (EMEM) containing 20% FBS with different concentrationsof tranilast, and morphological differences were observed. To investigate the effect of tranilast on cytokine production in B3 cell lines, cells were treated with 0.01 mM tranilast and expression profiles of cytokines were analyzed by RT-PCR. After performing phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation in 10 white rabbits, 0.5% tranilast eye drops were given 4 times per day, and the severity of PCO was evaluated bi-weekly using POCOman for 8 weeks after the operation. Results: Cell death was observed in the 0.05 mM tranilast-treated B3 cell lines, and inhibition of epithelial- mesenchymal transition (EMT) was also observed in the 0.01 mM tranilast-treated B3 cell lines. TGF-β1/2, IL-18, and CDK7 mRNA expression decreased in the 0.01 mM tranilast-treated B3 cell lines. Significant suppression of PCO formation was observed in rabbits treated with 0.5% tranilast eye drops 5 weeks post operative (p<0.05). Conclusions: The results from this study show that tranilast suppresses EMT through inhibition of TGF-β, IL-18,and CDK7 expression. The results suggest that tranilast can be used toprevent PCO formation after cataract surgery.

With the increase of the skyscraper center, the development of large-diameter and high-strength reinforcing bars is being carried out to solve the dense reinforcement. In case of the steel reinforced concrete with a small cross section such as beam-column joints, the development length becomes short when straight bars are used. Therefore, it is possible to solve the problem that the development length becomes short by using the bearing strength of the hooked bar and headed bar. In this study, the exterior beam-column joint test of SD700 hooked bar and headed bar with anchorage length of 20db was conducted to extend the development length limitation of hooked bar and headed bar. As a result of the evaluation of the anchorage strength using the design equation by KCI, the average of the [measured value]/[predicted value] ratio was 1.31 for the hooked reinforcing bars. In the case of headed bars, the average of the [measured value]/[predicted value] ratio was 1.12. In addition, in order to compare the anchorage performance of the hooked bar and the headed bar, the measured values were divided by the square root of the compressive strength of the concrete to compare the anchorage strength. Under the same conditions, the anchorage strength of headed bars was 8.5% higher than the hooked bars.

Thermal bubbles find their diverse application areas in the MEMS (MicroElectroMechanial Systems) technology, including bubble jet printers, microactuators, micropumps, etc.. Especially, microactuators and micropumps, which use a microbubble growing by a controlled heat input, frequently involve mechanical and thermal interaction of the bubble with a solid structure, such as a cantilever beam and a membrane. Although the concept is experimentally verified that an internal pressure of the bubble can build up high enough to deflect a thin solid plate or a beam, the physics of the entire process have not yet been thoroughly explored. This work reports the experimental study of the growth of a thermal bubble while deflecting a thin cantilever beam. A physical model is presented to predict the elastic response of the cantilever beam based on the experimental measurements. The scaling law constructed through this work can provide a design guide for micro- and nano-systems that employ a thermal bubble for their actuation/pumping mechanism.

Water strider legs, capable of enduring much heavier load than their body weight, are flexible. As a model for the legs, we study how floating flexible sheets in static equilibrium are deformed by hydrostatic pressure and surface tension using the linear theory of elasticity and the Young-Laplace equation. We also consider the maximum load supported by the sheets. The predictions agree well with experimental measurements.

현대 아시아 영화에 나타난 몸의 기호작용 연구 - 아피찻퐁 위라세타쿤과 차이밍량의 영화를 중심으로

아피찻퐁 위라세타쿤과 차이밍량의 영화는 현대 아시아 영화의 주요 특징 중 하나인 육체성을 잘 보여준다. 이들의 영화에서는 인물들의 다양한 감정이 언어가 아닌 몸을 통해 표현되고 교환되며, 이들의 영화 세계는 언어가 그 기능을 상실한 세계이자 상징적 질서가 무너진 세계라 할 수 있다. 아피찻퐁과 차이밍량의 영화에서 신체 언어는 일반 언어보다 더 중요한 기능을 담당하고, 몸은 야생, 반-문명, 제의, 소외, 환영 등을 지시하면서 다양한 기호작용을 수행한다. 이처럼 다양한 몸의 기호작용의 근저에는 현대 아시아 국가들에 급속하게 이식된 서구 물질문명에 대한 거부감이 공통적으로 자리하고 있으며, 문명 이전 혹은 문명 너머에 대한 동경도 그 공통적인 특징으로 드러난다. 아울러, 두 감독의 영화에서 야생 혹은 반-문명의 기호로서의 몸이 억압적이고 비인간적인 현대문명으로부터의 도피나 은신의 의도를 내포하고 있는 것에 반해, 환영의 기호로서의 몸은 문명에 대한 저항 혹은 버티기의 의지를 나타낸다. 이들의 영화에 나타나는 환영의 경험은 궁극적으로 현실의 물리적, 정서적 압력에 저항하며 비이성적인 버티기를 계속하려는 의지의 발현이라 볼 수 있다. The films of Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Tsai Ming Liang expose one of the main features of modern Asian cinema: corporality. In their films, the various emotions of characters are expressed and exchanged through the body, not the language, so their film world is a world in which language has lost its function and symbolic order has collapsed. In Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Tsai Ming Liang movies, body language plays a more important role than general language. t=The body performs semiosis, pointing to wildness, anti-civilization, rite, alienation, illusion, etc. At the root of this variety of semiosis is the common denial of Western material civilization which has been rapidly transplanted in modern Asian countries. In addition, while the body of the two directors' films are seen as a sign of wildness, or anti-civilization that contains the intention of escaping from the oppressive and inhuman modern civilization, the body as a sign of illusion, and embraces the will of resistance to civilization. The illusion of experience in their films is ultimately a manifestation of the will to resist the physical and emotional pressures of reality and to continue the irrational persistence.

전지구적 미디어 텍스트의 온라인 유통과 자막 제작자의 역할

본 연구는 온라인 상에서 미국 드라마의 팬자막(fansub)을 제작하는 이들 12명에 대한 인터뷰를 중심으로 이들의 팬자막 제작 행위 동기와 미드 소비ㆍ유통 과정에서 이들의 역할을 살펴보고, 이들이 가진 ‘능력’을 ‘문화자본(cultural capital)’의 관점에서 해석하고자 했다. 연구 결과 팬자막 제작자들은 미드라는 전지구적 콘텐츠를 즐기는 ‘팝 코스모폴리탄’으로서 로컬의 공식 유통 경로가 갖는 한계를 넘기 위해 온라인 다운로드라는 비공식 경로를 이용했다. 이 과정에서 이들은 한글 자막 부재 혹은 자막 질의 문제 등을 해결하고자 스스로 팬자막 제작을 시도하였고, 이는 비슷한 문제의식을 가진 팬들 사이의 상호작용, 공유 문화로 이어지고 있었다. 또한 미드가 영어 학습 도구로 활용되면서 이들의 자막은 여러 학습용 사이트 등에서 2차로 유통된다. 여기서 팬자막 제작자들이 지닌 문화자본(영어실력, 디지털 리터러시, 전문 지식 등)이 미드의 비공식적 유통에 중요한 역할을 하고 있었다. 본 연구에서는 팬자막 제작자들의 활동을 글로벌-로컬 차원에서 전지구적 콘텐츠 소비 및 유통 과정의 일환으로 바라보고, 이 과정에서 이들의 문화자본이 하는 역할과 그 의미를 분석하였다. 특히, ‘미드’라는 텍스트의 특수성에 주목함으로써 팬자막 소비 및 제작과 영어가 문화자본으로 떠오른 사회적 현상(영어라는 국제적 통용어의 유통, 영어 실력의 자본화 등)과의 관계를 포착하고자 했다. This research aims at investigating the role of fansubbers the process of fan circulation of global media products across a vast underground international networks. This article tries to apply the concept of ‘cultural capital’ devised by Bourdieu to the abilities of the fansubbers to account for the role of fansubbers. For the analysis, we conducted interviews with twelves fansubbers who have made fansubtitles of American TV dramas. We found out, first of all, even though they have enjoyed America TV Drama as ‘pop cosmopolitan’ who consume global media products, they have been experiencing time-space/geographical/institutional limitations as minority audiences in local of korea. They use their cultural capitals such as linguistic capital and digital capital to overcome these limitations and consume American TV dramas. This paper claims that fansubber’s role is associated with not only the hierarchical relationship between the global media industry and audience but also the empowerment of English as linguistic capital.

영화 이미지의 물질성과 운동성

Lacan met l’accent sur le rapport paradoxal entre le sujet et la lettre en reconnaissant la suprématie du signifiant. La lettre qui est le nouveau logos depuis Freud est la vraie cause de la jouissance et du désir. La science de la lettre qui montre le pouvoir absolu de celle- ci se résurne en son irnpossibilité. Si Lacan insiste incessarnment sur son impossibilité, ce n’est pas pour montre l'absoluité du langage, mais pour aborder le problème de l’etre d’ un nouveau point de vue à travers le désir. Nous pouvons avoir les trois stratégies face à l'irnpossiblité obstinée de la lettre, qui révèle l’être en le cachant. D’arbord, nous devons reconnéÛtre l’aimbiguité de la lettre comme la straégie du désir qui révèle le manque à être dans la climention de la vérité. Ensuite, il faut utiliser la lettre dans la signifiance qui suit la logique du signifiant, non pas dans Cette étude a pour but d’examiner la materialité et la mobilité de 1’lIDage fi1rrùque autour des théories de Gilles Deleuze, en praticulier de la notion de l’image-mouuement. Pour mieux comprendre les théories de Deleuze, nous nous appuyons surtout sur les essais philosopmques de Henri Bergson qui les a énonnément influencée, aussi bien que les articles de Jean Epstein et de Pascal Bonitzer dont les positions théoriques partagent certains points communs avec celles de Deleuze. D' abord, nous avons examiné sur les rappαts entre 1’image, le mouvement, la matière et la lumière, en portant sur les théories de Bergson et de Deleuze. D’après Deleuze, L’ identitξ de l' image et du mouvment a pour raison I'identité de la matière de la lumière : "L’image est mouvement comme la matière est lumière". Autrement dit, 1’image- mouvement et la matière-écoulement sont strictement la même chose. Selon Deleuze, le propre de l'image-mouvement cinξmatograpmque,c'est d' extraire des véhicules ou des mobiles le mouvement qui est en la substance commune, ou d' extraire des mouvements la mobilité qui en est l’essence. Ensuite, chez Deleuze, l’image fi1rrùque constitue en tant qu' imagemouvement une coupe mobile, qui fonctionne a la fois comme translation de parties dans l’espace et comme changement qualitatif dans une durée ou dans un tout. Cette coupe mobile correspond avec une coupe ou perspective temporelle, qui n'est autre qu'un bloc d’espace- temps, puisque lui appartient chaque fois le temps du mouvement qui s ’opère en lui. En ce sens, Deleuze a considéré le plan, fonne essentielle cinématograpmque, comme coupe mobile d' une durée en meme temps que comme coupe mobile des mouvements. A savoir, le plan présente des modifications de position relative dans un ensemble ou des ensembles, de même qu’il exprime des changements absolus dans une tout ou dans une durée.
