        A study was planned to see if the mammillary bodies have any influence upon orienting response Thirty-nine male rats were divided into two groups. One group of animals received electrolytic lesion of the mammillary bodies through stereotaxically implanted electrodes (mammillary body group), and the other group received the same treatment short of electrolytic lesion(operated control group). All animals were tested for orienting response 3 weeks after surgery. Orienting response was regarded as elicited when an animal in alertness ceased ongoing activity upon 1,000 Hz tone presentation and/or turned head toward the source of stimulus. Weak (momentary and inconspicuous) and strong (marked and more persistent) responses were discriminated. Occurrence and duration of orienting response were measured, and the rate of habituation was estimated in 20 trials. Shift of attention from sound to light stimulus (10 trials) as well as orienting response of thirsty animals to sound stimulus while drinking (5 trials) and while at rest (5 trials) were also tested. 1. Simple orienting respons to sound stimulus tended to occur more often and its duration tended to be shorter in the mammillary body group than in the operated control group. 2. With repetition of trials, the occurrence of orienting response in each trial decreased progressively in both groups (habituation). However, the rate of habituation was significantly less prominent in the mammillary body group than in the operated control group. 3. Under attention·shift situation, orienting response tended to occur less often and its duration tended to be shorter in the mammillary body group than in the operated control group. 4. Orienting response to sound stimulus while drinking to quench thirst tended to occur more often and its duration tended to be shorter in the mammillary body group than in the operated control group. In quiet state, however, there existed no group difference with regard to the occurrence and duration of the orienting response. Although no obvious inference can be drawn from the above results, they may suggest the mammillary bodies being involved in the orienting response as a control mechanism inhibitory to the occurrence and facilitatory to the habituation of the response.

        대규모 태양열발전 기본설계 및 동특성 계산

        This paper describes the procedure and calculation results of basic design and transient variation of performance of 1 MWe large scale solar thermal power plant (STPP) by using the commercial software of THERMOFLEX and TRNSYS, respectively. In order to simulate the transient variation of STPP, the results of basic design are necessary. The design standard of the STPP is 1 MWe generation with solar only at high DNI condition and then 0.6 MWe output power for 1 hour using stored energy when the DNI becomes lower unable to operate normally. The results of basic design show the important design data of flow rates, water/steam conditions at each equipments and the estimated efficiency of STPP. In addition, dynamic simulation results of STPP are predicted and plotted for one year and three different days weather data of Daejeon.

        An optimization strategy in wind-driven circulation with uncertain forcing problem off the southeastern coastal waters of Korea

        한국 남동해역 취송순환에서의 부정확한 외력의 바람응력 문제에 대한 최적화 방법의 유용성에 관하여 검토하였다. 바람응력은 모델 및 수치적 정식화 과정에서 상층 경계조건 및 외력항으로 고려되었다. 그리고 바람응력 평가에 대한 최적화 방법의 적용성 및 모델변수의 초기값 추정치의 중요성을 검토하였다. 최적화 연구로부터 동해 남부해역의 취송순환에 관한 동한난류의 수송량 변화 및 통해 난수층의 형성과 분포특성을 바람응력, 바람응력 회전성 및 상층두께의 변동으로부터 파악할 수 있음을 확인하였다. We demonstrated the importance of initial estimates of model parameters and the utility of an optimization approach of the uncertain forcing of wind-driven circulation off the southeastern coastal waters of Korea. The wind stress represents the upper boundary condition in this model and enters in the model equation as a forcing term in the numerical formalism. The wind field contributes to maintain the almost time-independent distribution of the upper layer thickness feature in a north-south direction and negative wind stress curl to maintain the formation of warm eddy off the southeastern coastal waters of Korea. Elucidated is the variational characteristics of the East Korean Warm Current due to the variations of the zonally averaged wind stress (southward transport) from the seasonal variations of the meridional transport by the Ekman transport.

        TiO<sub>2</sub>/UV 산화기술을 이용한 염색폐수처리에 관한 연구

        This research uses the $TiO_2$/UV process to verify the most suitable condition and possibility to dispose dyeing wastewater that contains pigment and a large amount of pollutants. For this, this research has enforced experiments that compare photo adsorption, photolysis, and photo catalyst oxidation reaction, and also evaluated and analyzed the change of pH and $TiO_2$ dosage, irradiation rates of ultraviolet rays and the dosage change and injection method of $H_2O_2$. According to the results of the dyeing wastewater experiment of storehouse catalyst that uses the new form of $TiO_2$, the photo catalyst oxidation reaction proved to be more effective than photo adsorption and photolysis; 35%, 21% in the case of $TCOD_{cr}$ and 39%, 28% in the case of chromaticity. Taking into consideration the reaction time, amount of photo catalyst reaction and irradiation amount of ultraviolet rays, the decomposition efficiency of pH change proved to be most effective at pH 4. On the whole, the acidity area proved to be effective in dyeing water exclusion than neutral and alkalinity areas. Having evaluated the influence of $TiO_2$ dosage, not only does the decomposition efficiency continuously improve as the $TiO_2$ dosage increases but the shielding effect does not occur also when the $TiO_2$ is at a fixed state. The influence of ultraviolet irradiation amount concluded in the result that as the ultraviolet irradiation amount increases the decomposition efficiency continually increased, but in the case of chromaticity when the irradiation amount was higher than 37.8mW/cm2 the removal efficiency is slowed remarkably. The influence of $H_2O_2$ dosage evaluation reached the results that although the decomposition efficiency increases with the increase of $H_2O_2$ dosage, when above 150mg (total dosage: 1200mg) $H_2O_2$ consumes OH radical itself and reduces the decomposition efficiency. Also in the case of the $H_2O_2$ injection method rather than injecting in the whole amount of $H_2O_2$ (1200mg) needed at the beginning all at once, injecting divided quantities of $H_2O_2$ whenever the electric current density falls below 10mgfl reduces the wases of OH radical due to an excess of $H_2O_2$ and in tum heightens the decomposition efficiency.

        개구결합으로 급전되는 마이크로스트립 안테나 구조에 대해, 접지면과 패치사이의 간격에 따라 ‘cavity'형과 ’parasitic'형의 두 가지 결합 메커니즘으로 나눌 수 있음을 이론적, 실험적으로 제시하였으며, 보다 단순한 급진구조로서 gap-결합 급전 마이크로스트립 안테나구조에서도 유사한 현상이 나타남을 확인하였다. 이러한 두 가지 결합메커니즘의 특징적 차이에 대하여 논의하였다. This article describes an observation that the aperture coupling mechanisms in the aperture coupled microstrip antenna can be divided into two categories, cavity and parasitic types, depending on the separation between the microstrip patch and the ground plane. The similar phenomenon was observed in the relatively simple gap coupled microstrip antenna. The specific characteristics between two coupling mechanisms is discussed.

        해수순환모델에 대한 최적화 방법

        It has been demonstrated for the finite-difference ocean circulation model that the problem of uncertain forcing and input data can be tackled with an optimization techniques. The uncertainty problem in interesting flow properties is exploring a finite difference ocean circulation model due to the uncertainty in the driving boundary conditions. The mathematical procedure is based upon optimization method by the conjugate gradient method using the simulated data and a simple barotropic model. An example for the ocean circulation model is discussed in which wind forcing and the steady-state circulation are determined from a simulated stream function.

        탄산가스 레이저 조사가 노출 치수에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

        This study investigated the effects of laser irradiation on the exposed pulp and the possibility of direct pulp capping with the $CO_2$ laser. Results were obtained from the observation of the residual pulpal healing process. Class V cavities on 48 anterior teeth from 8 adult dogs were prepared and pulp chambers were intentionally opened with dental explorer. The control group consisted of 16 teeth. $Dycal^{(R)}$(Caulk Co., U.S.A.) was applied to exposed site once bleeding was stopped. Cavities were sealed with $I.R.M^{(R)}$. In the experimental group 1 (16 teeth), laser(LASERSAT $CO_2^{(R)}$, Satelec Co.) was irradiated on the exposed pulp. The laser procedure followed the manufacturers recommendations for the treatment of human pulp(1.5 Watts, 0.2 seconds, unfocused), and cavities were sealed with $I.R.M^{(R)}$. In the experimental group 2 (16 teeth), laser was irradiated on the exposed pulp in a more powerful dosage(5.0 Watts, 0.2 seconds, unfocused), and cavities were sealed with $I.R.M^{(R)}$. Two dogs were sacrificed immediately after experiment and the others were sacrificed at intervals of one, three, and eight weeks respectively. All teeth were routinely processed and the pulpal tissues and odontoblastic layers were observed by the light microscope. The results were as follows; 1. In the control group, the initial mild inflammation had improved to normal by week eight. An active formation of reparative dentin was observed at week three, and at week eight, a firm dentin bridge was present beneath the $Dycal^{(R)}$ with no inflammatory responses in the remaining pulp. 2. In the experimental group 1, immediately following irradiation, the superficial shape of the exposed pulp was crater-like. And it was lined with the coagulated layer, $60{\sim}70{\mu}m$ in width. Moderate inflammatory pulpal conditions existing at week one were improved to mild at week eight. And from the week three specimens, a reparative dentin formation was observed in the adjacent odontoblastic layer of the exposed site. A dentin bridge at the exposed site, however, did not form during the experimental period. 3. In the experimental group 2, the width of the coagulation layer lining the crater was $70{\sim}130{\mu}m$. Beneath the coagulated layer, severe inflammatory pulpal responses were observed at week one, and conditions did not improve during the experimental period.

      • A Study on the Factors that Influence the Surgical Outcomes of Choledochal Cyst in Children

        담관 낭종은 흔하지는 않지만, 외과적 절제가 필요한 주요 질환이다. 절제하지 않고 남겨두면 다른 질환으로의 이환이나 다양한 합병증에 의한 사망까지도 야기할 수 있기 때문에 적절한 수술적 치료가 필수적이다. 최근 수술에 따른 다양한 문제들이 계속 보고되고 있으며, 출생 전이나 건강 검진 시 발견되는 무증상의 담관 낭종의 수술 시기에 대해서도 아직 논란이 되고 있다. 저자들은 1995년부터 2009년까지 담관 낭종으로 수술 받은 환자 중 수술 받을 당시의 연령이 18세 이하인 32명 환자의 임상 양상과 수술 기록을 후향적으로 분석하여, 수술 성적에 영향을 주는 요인들을 알아보고자 하였다. 전체 32명 중 남자 10명, 여자 22명이었으며, 수술 당시의 평균 연령은 5.4세였다. 췌담관 합류이상은 9명(28.1%)이었으며, 평균 추적 관찰 기간은 34.6개월이었다. 술 전 증상을 호소한 환자는 30명(93.8%)이었으며, 복통(63.3%), 황달(40.0%), 구토(23.3%), 복부종물(16.7%), 발열(16.7%)등의 순서였다. 술 전 혈액 검사에서 AST/ALT의 상승이 18명(56.3%), 고빌리루빈혈증이 8명, 백혈구 증가증이 7명(21.9%)이었다. 술 후 합병증은 5명(15.6%)에서 나타났는데, 2명은 담관염이었고, 나머지 3명은 문합부 협착, 술 후 출혈, 장 폐쇄가 각각 1명 있었다. 술 후 평균 재원 기간은 12.2일 이었으며, 추적 관찰 기간 중 3명(9.0%)이 재입원 하였다. 수술 성적에 영향을 미치는 요인으로, 수술 당시의 나이가 많을수록 평균 수술 시간과 재원 기간이 증가하였다(p=0.004, p=0.028). 증상이 있었던 환자군에서 무증상 환자군보다 재원 기간이 더 길었다(p=0.001). 또한 췌담관 합류이상이 있었던 환자군에서 재입원율이 유의하게 높았다(p=0.005). 소아의 담관 낭종은 진단이 되면 증상 발현 전이라도 조기에 수술하는 것이 수술 시간 및 재원 기간을 단축시킬 수 있으며, 췌담관 합류이상이 동반된 경우에는 술 후에 재입원할 가능성이 높으므로 주의깊게 추적 관찰하는 것이 바람직할 것이다.

        내구기준을 고려한 컨트롤 암의 구조최적설계

        This study suggests a structural design process for the upper control arm installed at a vehicle. Static strength and durability are the most important responses in the structural design of a control arm. This study considers the static strength in the optimization process. The inertia relief method for FE analysis is utilized to simulate the static loading conditions. According to the classification of structural optimization, the structural design of a control arm is included in the category of shape optimization. In this study, the metamodel technique using the kriging method is adopted to obtain the minimum weight satisfying the strength constraint. Then, the final design is suggested by considering the durability criteria. The durability assessment is obtained by the index of fatigue durability called the SWT (Smith-Watson-Topper) index. The final optimum shape has been proposed by trial and error method.
