In low load condition during long terms, it has been found the deterioration of performance and expected the shortened time between overhaul because of the reverse flow through the intake port and valves. In this paper, in marine diesel engine for generator, it was investigated the phenomena of reverse flow in gas passage regarding by the comparison of the pressures measured at intake port, exhaust port and cylinder simultaneously. And also it was examined the deteriorations by the comparison for the rate of heat release. Finally the possible improvement methods for this problem are proposed.
