This research is concerned with a study on stress distribution and strength evaluation of thermoplastic resin using resistance welding. Tensile-shear tests were carried out with the single-lap resistance welded joined specimens consisting of thermoplastic resin. polypropylene(PP), polystyrene (PS) and polyetyrene(PE) were selected. Types of base material, diameter of heat element, voltage, current, electrified time and number of weld line are set on the parameters that govern the welding process and the principal phenomena that affect the quality of the joint. The test results were presented by tensile-shear strength and the experimental set-up and the main evaluation methods are also looked at in detail. The failure mechanism was discussed in order to explain the tensile-shear strength and stress distribution of resistance welding and the relationship between stress intensity and bonding strength properties were explained.
