This study intends to show how understanding of ministry influences on the Pastor's ethical consciousness. To achieve this goal, first, I contrast two views such as understanding of ministry as a calling and one as a profession, and then, I try to explore historical backgrounds of each understanding. Also, I deal with criteria of profession to decide whether or not the pastor's ministry can be argued as a profession. Second, I explore ethical implications of each understanding of ministry. Here I show that different understanding can result in different ethical implications in relation to Korean pastor's ethical problems. It can not be argued that one understanding of ministry is superior to the other. Each understanding has its own characteristics, although Korean church is mainly biased on understanding ministry as a calling. Third, the comparison study between understanding of ministry as a calling and one as a profession, I choose two leading Korean pastors such as Jae-Chul Lee and Dong-ho Kim. And I explore each one's understanding of ministry and its ethical implications. Whereas the former is biased on the understanding of ministry as a calling, the latter is biased on profession. Also, while the former emphasizes the pastor's personal ethics as the one who is standing in front of God, the latter argues relational ethics between pastor and elders based on each one's clear role. On this basis, I argue integrative understanding of ministry and pastoral- ethical implications in the conclusion chapter.

The life of elevator wire ropes is one of the most important characteristics of that product, which is closely related with the safety of users and its maintenance policy. It is not so economical to measure the life of elevator wire ropes in its use condition. In this study, the life estimation of elevator wire ropes (8x19W-IWRC) is considered using accelerated degradation test data. Bending fatigue tester is used to perform the accelerated degradation test with the acceleration factor of tensile strength. Under the assumption that the life of wire ropes is lognormally distributed, two life estimation methods are suggested and their results are compared : the first method is to estimate the life of wire ropes utilizing the accelerated life model with pseudo lives obtained from linear regression model, and the second one is to estimate it using logistic model based on failure probability.

The main purpose of this study is to perceive the cause of the ecological crisis and to suggest the task of Korean churches. Nowadays, the ecological crisis is increasingly becoming an important issue in the society. Despite the attention of the Korean theological circle, local churches tend to consider ecological destruction as a secondary matter in their mission work. In the 21st century, due to the decline of the number of believers and the collapse of public trust, Korean Churches are questioning themselves the reason of their existence and raising voices on their socio-ethical responsibility. In this situation, the ecological issue is becoming one of the most crucial matters in local churches. Therefore, Korean Churches are required to restore the endangered ecosystem. To achieve this purpose, this study is divided into four parts: Firstly, definitions of the environment-related terms will be studied. It is because the understanding of the terms is so significant especially in the areas of social sciences and humanities. Secondly, various causes of the ecological crisis will be examined to apprehend how Christianity is related to ecological crisis. Thirdly, eco-theological discussions of various theologians will be highlighted. In this part, Sallie McFague and Jurgen Moltmann’s theological understandings of ecosystem will be illuminated. Finally, the task of Korean Churches will be suggested on how to manage to recover the ecosystem.

The pastor's sexual misconduct has been one of the most important issues in the Korean church for the last few decades. However, thisissue has not been dealt enough in the Korean church, due to its negative character. And people in general tend to think that this issue is just the pastor's private matter rather than a public subject. Thus, we can not easily find the seminars on sexuality for the pastors, compared to the ones on church growth. In this respect, this article deals with a sensitive subject in the Korean church context. The main body of this article is divided into the four parts: the relationship between spirituality and sexuality, the present situation of the pastor's sexual misconduct, the reason of it, and the conclusion. The first chapter sees the division between spirituality and sexuality and its negative results in the biblical perspective. Here we can get the implications to the pastor's sexual abuse from the division between spirituality and sexuality. The second chapter shows the actual situation of the pastor's sexual misconduct in both the American and Korean contexts. We can find that many pastors are facing the danger of sexual misconduct. The third chapter gives attention to the reasons of the pastor's sexual misconduct such as pastoral-situational dimension, power differential dimension, and pathological dimension. Especially, we look into the pastor's sexual dimension in his/her pastoral work, the possibility of approaching to internet pornography, and the principle of physical touch. The conclusion chapter proposes some counter-measures to prevent the pastor's sexual misconduct in relation to spirituality.

This study is trying to investigate some interpretations on the social role of English churches as well as the growth and decline of churches in the Victorian age. Through this study, we are going to find the reasons about the crisis of Korean churches and the renewal method for it. To achieve this task, this study is divided into three parts as follows: Firstly, some theologians’ interpretations about church growth and decline in the Victorian age will be specifically investigated. In this part, we are going to look into the right time when the phenomenon of ‘religious boom’ of the Victorian church finished. Secondly, the reasons for the crisis of the Victorian church are going to be studied. Here, we will search for various reasons how churches today may fall into the crisis. Thirdly, social roles of the church will be searched. Whether the Victorian church in the Nineteenth century acted as a tool of social control or as a tool of social reform will be studied. In conclusion, we will deeply think of some instructions that English churches in the Victorian age give to Korean churches nowadays.

As a worldwide phenomenon, the concern on spirituality has been increased for the last few decades. Korean society is also not an exception. The concern on spirituality is found not only in society but also in religions. Especially, the pastor`s abuse of power is closely related to the loss of genuine spirituality in Korean churches. In this respect, this essay tries to focus on the pastor`s abuse of power which has considerable ethical implications. If the pastor`s power is positively used for church members, it can help their spiritual growth. Vice versa, it can also bring the negative result such as spiritual abuse. The main body of this article consists of three parts. Part I tries to explore the understanding of the pastor`s power. Here, the definition and essence of power by various scholars are examined. Part 2 deals with the pastor`s abuse of power and its consequent negative phenomena. In this part, the break of confidentiality and the pastor`s spiritual abuse are dealt with in a deep level, and the implications of these two phenomena are explored. Part 3 deals with the reasons of the pastor`s abuse of power such as psychological, socio-cultural, and ecclesiastical reasons. Nowadays Korean churches are facing the crisis in both membership and their influences on society. The main reason is because people do not trust church leaders any more. Especially, the pastor`s authoritarian power and his/her abuse of it negatively influence church members and society in general. In response to this reality Korean churches should be renewed through the pastor`s positive use of power.

The purpose of this study is to seek necessity of Christian ethics, and, on this basis, to diagnose about ethics of Korean church today. Then, “Why Christian Ethics?” We look at five necessities of it: Firstly, Christianity was originally characterized with ethical speciality. Secondly, Christian ethics can improve christian way of ethical decision-making. Thirdly, Christian ethics can develop ethical leadership. Fourthly, Christian ethics can prevent common mistake of the church. Fifthly, Christian ethics can integrate the christian way of living. After this argument, we are trying to diagnose the ethical situation of Korean church and seek the ethical direction on the basis of these five angles. In previous days, christian ethics was concerned with meta-ethics which studied on moral language and philosophical reasoning. However, presently, christian ethics has a role as a mediator between theory and practice. In this sense, modern christian ethics is a necessary discipline for christian’s character formation as well as hopeful christian decision-making to various moral dilemmas.

This article investigates whether the virtue of compassion can supplement the four principles of biomedical ethics. Firstly, this study describes both positive and negative meanings of compassion. Secondly, it goes further on examining theology of compassion to know how compassion was expressed in Hugh of St. Victor`s theology, Franciscan spirituality, Allen Verhey`s theology, and Robin Gill`s theology. Thirdly, this study tries to apply the virtue of compassion to the mentally ill (by Stanley Hauerwas) and AIDS patients (by Robin Gill). On this basis, this study suggests that the virtue of compassion can be used as the supplementary virtue of the four principles of biomedical ethics by Tom L. Beauchamp and James Childress.

In this paper, we describe the implementation of the C cross-compiler for the ES-C2340 DSP2 processor by using the GNU compiler. For the rapid and efficient developing of the compiler, we use the approach that combines some parts of the language-dependent front-end of the GNU compiler and other parts like the processor-dependent back-end which is implemented newly to build the compiler. This approach has several advantages. First, as we use GNU compiler''s well-proved excellent optimization method and multi-language support capability, we can improve the efficiency and generality of the compiler. Second, as we concentrate on the developing of processor-dependent part, it shorten the compiler developing time, third, with that, we can use high-level language as logic approving tool in processor developing process. And to support the cross-compiler, we also implement a text-level pre-linker.

The development of medical/scientific technology today has made death related issues more complex. Especially, there are an increasing number of people who experience extreme suffering in hospitals during the last period of their lives. Although they could get some medical help, many of them are suffering from the life-prolonging treatment. This sort of treatment results in not only a waste of medical resources but the patient's and his/her family members' suffering. In this context, it can be argued that advance medical directive is the important means of helping people who are currently in a good health condition. Advance medical directive has been generally accepted in western societies, although it has showed some limitations. In this respect, this article examines whether or not advance medical directive is needed in Korea. Specifically, the main body of this article is divided into four parts: the meaning and background of advance medical directive, strengths of it, limitations of it, and the biblical views on it. The first chapter examines the definition of the term "advance medical directive" and two special cases (Karen Ann Quinlan case and Nancy Cruzan case). The second chapter shows what advantages advance medical directive gives to patient (patient's family members, and doctors). Here we see that advance medical directive can help improvement of the patient's quality of life during the last period of his/her life. The third chapter gives attention to some limitations of advance medical directive including the possibilities of encouraging euthanasia and abandoning patient care. The fourth chapter explores biblical views on advance medical directive. And this article will be closed as a concluding remarks speculating the meaning of death.
