This experiment was carried out to study the effect of planting density and seeding time on the grass length, grain production arid chemical composition of Coix lacryma L. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. Grain production of Coix lacryma L. was higher as the planting density was narrow than as the planting density was wide. Grass length was shorter as the seeding density was wider. 2. Grain production decreased progressively as the seeding time was late. Grass length was shorter as the seeding time was late. 3. In the chemical composition of Coix lacryma L., the content of crude protein was 10.35% in the grain with hull and was 13.88% in the grain without gull. The content of crude fiber was 10.29% in the grain with hull and was 0.95% in the grain without hull. The content of crude fiber was greatly decreased as the hull of grain was removed.

To investigate the effect of the fertilization level of nitrogen on the grass height, green yield and chemical composition of Coix lacryma L., this experiment was carried out. The results obtained were as follow; 1. Grass height was 82-90㎝, 185-196㎝ and 186-201㎝ in the 2nd months and 3rd months after seeding and heading stage, respectively. Generally, the grass height increased as the fertilization level of nitrogen was increased. According to the cutting stage, grass height in the 3rd months after seeding and heading stage was higher (p$lt;0.05) than that in the 2nd cutting stage. 2. Green yield per 10 a. was 955-1835㎏, 3325-4608㎏ and 3815-5223㎏ in the 2nd months and 3rd months after seeding and heading stage, respectively. Green yield was greatly (p$lt;0.01) increased as the fertilization level of nitrogen was increased. According to the cutting stage, green yield in the 3rd months after seeding and heading stage was significantly (p$lt;0.01) higher than that in the 2nd months after seeding. 3. In the chemical composition on the dried basis, crude protein was 7.03-16.30% and the crude protein increased as the fertilization level of nitrogen was increased. According to cutting stage, the content of crude protein in the 3rd moths after seeding was lower than that in the 2nd months after seeding. The content of crude fiber was 26.42-37.21% and the crude fiber was not affected by the fertilization level of nitrogen. According to the cutting stage, the content of crude fiber in the 3rd months after seeding was 10% higher than that in the 2nd months after seeding. On the green basis, the content of crude protein was 1.76-3.10% and the crude protein was not affected by the fertilization level of nitrogen. According to the cutting stage, the content of crude protein in the 3rd months after seeding was lower than that in the 2nd months after seeding. The content of crude fiber was 5.02-8.93% and the crude fiber was not affected by the fertilization level of nitrogen.

The study strongly recommends the adoption of the system of fisheries free trade area(FTA) to achieve the object under the analysis of structure of international fisheries trade in East-North Asian countries.
21 세기 수산업의 비젼 : 한 일 공동심포지움 Korea and Japan Joint Symposium

The Fisheries Business Administration Society of Korea(FBASK), with Dr. Jeong-yoon Choe as its president, and the The Japan Regional Fisheries Society of Japan(JRFS), currently headed by Dr. To-ru Kurada, jointly held a symposium on 25 June, this year(1999) at international conference hall of Lotte Hotel, Pusan, Republic of Korea. The symposium, with its theme being as" the fisheries's vision in 21th century", attracted 150 participants, including scholars specialized in the field of fisheries social science from both sides, officials from both sides, officials from the Ministry of Marine and Fisheries of Korea, and representatives of Korea fishing industry. Among those, 11 scholars, with membership of FBASK or JRFS, presented their papers or took part in discussion at this symposium. It was anticipanted that this symposium would provided new opportunities for the expansion of academic exchange between Korean and Japanese fisheries experts. This paper reviews the background, the operation, performance, and outcomes of the symposium and the paper is structured as follows; 1. the background under which this symposium was held ; 2. the selection of the symposium' s theme ; 3. the presentation and discussion at the meeting ; and 4. the preformance and outcomes of symposium
