During frontal crash of a vehicle, a significant part of the driver's kinetic energy is absorbed by the steering system. Therefore the degree of injury during frontal crash is greatly affected by the structural details of a steering wheel. A simple finite element model is developed for four - spoke steering wheel with an airbag such that the analysis results match FMVSS 203 test data. Based on the model, sensitivity analysis is performed for the rim and spokes with respect to the FMVSS203 test. A procedure to an optimal design is suggested with reference to the sensitivity analysis.<br/>
