We made 250 kHz filter bank based on FBS250 model designed by Millitech. It consists of 256 channels centered at 1391 MHz. The minimum detectable input level is -56 dBm/channel, and the maximum continuous integration time is about 1.3 seconds. This spectrometer can be operated in parallel or series mode with other spectrometers.

We designed the Intermediate Frequency(IF) distributor for multi beam backend system and manufactured Voltage to Frequency Converter(VFC) to measure the multi-beam receiver performance. Multi beam receiver has 15 channel receivers and can get 15 spectrums at once. The multi beam receiver has more observation efficiency than single beam receiver. We manufactured the 15 IF distributors to distribute IF signal for Autocorrelation spectrometer that is radio signal processor. Also, we manufactured the VF Converter to test the performance measurement of receiver for Korea VLBI Network(KVN) system which is under-construct in Seoul, Ulsan and Jeju. As a result of performance measurement, we could obtain linearity of 99.4% on the input power vs output frequency and measured the operating range of input frequency.

N/A Objective .We aimed to compare efficacy of treatment between steroid therapy and steroid-chlorambucil combination therapy in patients with adult-onset idiopathic membranous glomerulonephritis (MN). Methods: A series of 31 biopsy-proved idiopathic MN patients was analyzed retrospectively to estimate effect of treatment with steroid and/or cytotoxic agent. All patients (male 15, female 16, mean age of 37 years old) presented a full-blown nephrotic syndrome (proteinuria >3.0gm/day, serum albumin <3.0mg/dL, edema) at the initiation of treat- ment and were observed for at least 6 months (mean follow up period: 28±23 months). Clinical and laboratory information were obtained at the time of presentation and at last follow up. Each patient was assigned to one of the following protacols. 1) Steroid therapy prednisolone 40 or 60mg/day (single dose) for 16 weeks. 2) Steroid-Chlorambucil combination therapy: for 6 months with three cycles of methylprednisolone pulse therapy (lgm 1V for 3 days), prednisolone 0.5mg/kg/day for 27 days, then chlorambucil 0.2mg/kg/day for 28 days. 3. Cyclophosphamide 2mg/kg/day for 28 days. Results: 1) Final status in total 31 cases irrespective of therapeutic modality were complete remission in 5 (16%) cases, partial remission in 9 (29%) cases, no response in 12 (41%) cases, spontaneous complete re- mission in 1 cases, and spontaneous partial remission in 1 case. 2) After initial steroid therapy (in 25 cases), We observed no response in 17 (68%) case, partial remission in 3 (12%) cases, complete remission in 3 (12%) cases, and spontaneous partial remission in 2 (8%) cases. 3) The combination therapy (steroid and chlorambucil) tried in 10 cases results in 5 (50%) cases of partial remission, 2 (20%) cases of complete remission, 1 (10%) case of spontaneous partial remission, and 2 (20%) cases of no response. 4) During follow up period, renal functional deterioration was absent in any case and final albumin levels were significantly increased (p<0.05). Conclusion: Steroid-chlorambucil combination pro- toco1 is considered to be a more effective treatment with higher rate of overall remission compared to steroid therapy. Idiopathic MN itself seems to have a relatively benign course when considering that renal function was preserved in all cases without progression to chronic renal failure and that a few cases of spontaneous remission could be observed. For the limitation in number of cases and duration of follow up in this study, it needs prospective controlled study of more larger scale with long-term follow up to get a more reliable results.

In this paper, we analyze the scientific inquiries type on Almanac and Historical Astronomy asked through the Q&A service in Korea Astronomy and Science Institute(KASI) webpage with the aid of scientific inquiries analysis methods. We also study the contents of the questions. Specifically, we have created statistics of questions and inquiries, and have developed categories to analyze the characteristics of questions with regard to their cognitive aspects. Each question is categorized as either of the two elements based on their recognitive aspect: science knowledge or science study. Each element also has sub-categories that help the reader understand the characteristics of the questions. For the analysis, we used the sample consisting of questions collected from April, 2005 to June, 2007. Through this study, we achieved a better understanding of the questions in the area of Almanac and Historical Astronomy asked in the Q&A service. Throughout this study, we find that the need of questions in the area of Almanac and Historical Astronomy are increasing with time, and the overall quality of the questions is getting improved. As we expect that the number of people using our Q&A service will increase and that the questions will get more difficult to answer, development of improved contents is required.

In this paper, we introduce the development of the large storage system in order to record the observed space radio signal in the Korean VLBI Network(KVN) with high-speed. The KVN is the Very Long Baseline Interferometery(VLBI) to observe the birth of star, the structure of space by constructing radio telescope with diameter 21m at the Seoul, Ulsan, Jeju from 2001 to 2007 years. To do this, Korea Astronomy Observatory joined the international consortium for developing the high-speed large storage system(Mark 5), which is developed by MIT Haystack observatory. The Mark 5 system based on hard disk has to record up to 1 Gbps the observed space radio signal. The main features of Mark 5 system are as follows; First it is able to directly record the input data to the hard disk without PC1(Peripheral Component Interconnect) internal bus, and the second, it has two hard disk banks, which are able to hot-swap ATA/IDE type very cheap up to 1 Gbps recording and playback. The third is that it follows the international VLBI standard interface hardware(VSI-H). Therefore it can be connect directly the VSI-H type system at the input/output. Finally it also supports e- VLBI(Electronic-VLBI) through the standard Gigabits Ethernet connection.

The purposes of this study are to develop the concept and the measurement method of IGS(Index of Greenness in Streetscape) and to analyze the present condition of street environments through field surveys of IGS in Seoul. IGS is a new index which directly expresses human's perceptions of plants in a street and defined as the area ratio of which leaves of plants occupy in an eye-level view of a person standing on the center line of a street. In practice, IGS can be calculated from a photograph taken from a center point of a street at about 1.5 meter height from the ground with single lens reflex camera equiped with 50mm standard lens. The photograph must have a special composition in a way that the center point of the photograph is positioning at the visual vanishing point of street center line. Then the IGS can be calculated by computing the percentage of the area covered with the plant leaves in the photograph. Types of streets in Seoul were classified according to road functions into 4 types. We performed field surveys and calculated IGSs from 300 sample sites in Seoul. Followings summarize some of study results. The average IGSs for arterial roads, highways, alleys and back streets are 16.91%, 16.33%, 13.97% and 7.50% respectively. The difference of average IGS values between Ginkgo biloba and Platanus occidentalis was relatively large. From observation IGSs from April 4th, 2003 to October 2nd, 2003, it was evident that the range and timing of each plant species' IGS change is not the same. According to questionnaire to public officials taking charge of street greening, the current evaluated IGS is 24.4%, and it is expected to be 40.7% in the future.

The International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO) was established by the Euro-Asian Astronomical Society in order to disseminate astronomical knowledge, promote international cooperation in astronomical education area and recognize the importance of astronomy in far-reaching field of science and human culture. The first IAO competition was held at the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences located in the north Caucasus of Russia in 1996. Since then, it has been held every year. This paper describes the present status of the IAO main regulations regarding its operation and major results by year, related institutions, and organizations. We created a scientific inquiry framework to analyze past IAO problems in the recognitive aspect in order to measure levels of the scientific knowledges and the scientific thinking abilities. Through this analysis, we can understand the current status of the IAO, and examine the future direction of Korea Astronomy Olympiad. Also, we can make preparation for the IAO competition and the education of delegates.

In this paper, we propose a small-scale Gigabit VLBI observing system for the Korean VLBI Network (KVN) under construction. The system consists of high-speed sampler, IP-VLBI board, PC-VSI board, and software correlator. Radio signal received by receiver is sampled by high-speed sample. at 1 Gsps (Gigabit sample per second) rate with 2 bits quantization. The digitized signal is recorded in PC and the software correlator does the cross correlation. IP-VLBI board will be used for the geodesy VLBI observation, while PC-VSI board is for the astronomical VLBI observation. The PC-VSI board adopts the VSI-H (VLBI Standard Interface Hardware). The proposed system is based on commercial PCs and therefore can be built inexpensively.
