The squeeze casting process is considered as an attractive way to form the primary product of near net shape metal matrix composites for wide use in automobile industry. To understand for infiltration limit in squeeze casting processes, the SAFFIL short fiber preform of volume fraction $10%{\sim}23%$ were fabricated by vaccum pumping and speed control press, and the optimal condition for fiber preform fabrication had been experimentally obtained. The composite materials were fabricated by forced infiltration of molten metals such as Al6061, Al7075, pure Al, AC8A, and Al2024. The infiltration distance and deformation of fiber preform are observed, and tensile strength were measured from at the room temperature.

N/A This paper relates to fabrication processing analysis of metal matrix composites by the injection of liquid metal into a fibrous preforms. One dimensional heat transfer analysis during squeeze infiltration process of aluminum base composites has been studied. An analysis method was investigated for the temperature distribution, infiltration velocity and melt infiltration characteristics with the commercial preform with short fiber array. When molten metal is infiltrated in a fibrous preform with random orientation, phase transformation will be occurred in a region such as molten metal, solidified region, preform region and infiltration composites region a mathematical modelling for a solidification phenomena in fabrication process of metal matrix composites using a squeeze infiltration technique was investigated by the basic relations for liquid metal into a fibrous preform. The temperature distribution of theoretical results was compared with experimental data.
반용융가공에 의한 Al2O3 / Al 복합재료의 제조 및 열간압출공정

N/A A semi-solid alloy in which solid and liquid phase are co-existing is obtained by stirring of A17075 molten metal. A semi-solid alloy is dependent on the corresponding temperature within the solid-liquid range, and the process parameters should be controlled accurately to obtain the homogeneous semisolid alloy. The fabrication possibility of fiber-reinforced aluminum alloy containing Al₂O₃short fibers with vigorous agitation of short fibers were obtained by control of stirring time, solid fraction and impeller speed in extrusion billet fabrication processes. The microstructure to extrusion billet fabricated by low pressure casting was investigated for fiber dispersion state. The relationship between the extrustion force and velocity at hot extrustion, the flow strain and extrusion ratio were theoretically described. The surface defects with lubricants and without lubricant after hot extrustion were investigated. The composites materials after hot extrusion were measured by vickers hardness with extrusion ratio. It has become clear that the secondary working such as hot extrusion was very useful to obtained improved the mechanical properties of metal matrix composites.
금속복합재료의 열간압출공정에 있어서 압출비가 섬유의 파단 및 배향에 미치는 영향

The aluminar short fiber reinforced composite materials for hot extrusion were fabricated by semi-solid stirring method, and extruded at extrusion temperature $400^{\circ}C$ with various extrusion ratio. The hot extrusion load of volume fraction 15% metal matrix composites and base alloy Al7075 has been compared. The fiber length distribution, fiber breakage and fiber orientation are investiged to know the fiber behaviour in before and after hot extrusion. The tensile strength of the hot extruded billet are experimentally determined for different of extrusion ratios, and compared with theorically calculated strength.

N/A Through a series of experiments with preforms which had random oriented fiber distribution, preform deformation and the tensile strength of metal matrix composites were investigated. Experimental data are presented for injection of aluminum-alloy melts into preforms which are composed of δ-alumina short fiber of SAFFIL with a silica binder. The composites materials used in this study were Al2024 and AC4C. Processing parameters considered in this study were preform temperature, applied pressure, delay time and fiber length. The effects of processing parameters on microstructures of metal matrix composites, SEM micrographs and optical micrographs were also examined.
