This study investigates the effect of self-loosening in chassis fasteners under transverse vibration. Several factors were chosen to optimize the fastener system such as bolt coating material, strength of bolt, nut shape, washer hardness Etc. DOE technique was imployed to optimize the fastener system with numerous variables. And a Junker machine was designed to control the transverse vibration and measure the clamping force. Optimized bolt-nut-washer was compared to the existing anti self-loosening fastener system and was verified to be robust in maintaining torque well enough even when the bolt was retightened several times.
