Background : Multi-organ failure from sepsis is very lethal disease entity, which is suspected to be caused by activated inflammatory cells. Inflammatory cells activated by endotoxins generate oxidants and cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6, which in turn stimulate macrophages and neutrophils. Augmented inflammation makes an organ-injury deteriorate into an organ-failure, which may progress to multi-organ failure. This study is designed to evaluate the therapeutic effects of vitamin-C, a scavenger of oxidants, in sepsis. Methods : Male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 3 groups : a control group, a group injected intrapetoneally with LPS(lipopolysaccharide), and a group injected intraperitoneally with LPS and vitamin-C. Each eight rats were sacrified 24 hours and 48 hours after injection, and samples of the blood, the liver and the lung were obtained. Biochemical assays of TNF-α level in the blood and malondialdehyde(MDA)level, catalase activity and nitric oxide synthase(NOS)activity in the liver and the lung tissues were performed. Results : Serum TNF-α level, tissue lipid peroxidation and tissue i-NOS activity were dramatically increased, and tissue catalase activity was exhausted rapidly in sepsis. High dose vitamin-C administration decreased serum TNF-α level, tissue lipid peroxidation and tissue i-NOS induction, and protected against catalase exhaustion. Conclusion : high dose vitamin-C therapy was proved to have definite antioxidant effect in septic condition.

This study investigated geochemical characteristics of acid mine drainage(AMD) discharged from the abandoned coal mine and gold mine. Water sample of acid mine drainage were collected from 9 locations at Hwasun, Kwangyang, Chonam, Taback and Sangdong area. The yellowish and brown color of evaporated material was prepared by air dry for 9 acid water samples during 20 days in the laboratory As the 9 acid water samples become fully drying, the concentration of this water become progressively more concentrated and its may be eventually reached saturation with respect to either gypsum or ferrohexahydrite. The value of density for acid mine drainage increase with increasing TDS and EC values. The value of activity for acid mine drainage increase with those real ion concentration. The x-ray powder diffraction studies identified that the evaporated materials were gypsum, ferrohexahydrite and kaolinite. Diagnostic peaks used for identification of gypsum were the 7.62, 4.28, 3.80, 3.07, 2.88, 2.68, 2.22, 1.90 and 1.62Å peaks. Diffraction peaks at 6.00, 5.48, 5.13, 4.89, 4.40, 3.46, 3.20, 3.03, 2.97, 2.94, 2.79, 2.27 2.09Å may indicate ferrohexahydrite. In the SEM and EDS analysis, the crystals of acicular and columnar in the evaporated materials probably shown the gypsum.

The subacute toxicity of the combined vaccine (KGCC-95VI) for the prophylaxis against Japanese encephalitis and Hantaan virus infection, recently developed by Korea Green Cross Corporation, was investigated. KGCC-95VI was subcutaneously administered into the both sexes of New Zealand White rabbits at the dosage of 0, 10. 50 and 250 ml/kg body weight (20, 100 and 500 times the expected clincal dose) once a day for 30 days. There were no deaths and clinical findings during the experiment period. In both sexes. there were no statistically significant differences between the treated and control groups in urinalysis tests, hematological tests, blood chemistry tests and pathological examinations. The KGCC-95VI is considered not to have the subacute toxicity in the rabbits.
BCAA투여가 운동중 흰쥐의 혈액성분 및 중추신경계 피로에 미치는 영향

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of BCAA administration on plasma content and CNS fatigue during exercise in rat. Methods: 21 male SD rats were divided into three groups, control (CON), exercise group with only saline (SAL), and exercise group with BCAA (BCAA), respectively. All rats were trained on a motor driven treadmill. Injected intraperitoneally with 1mL of saline (0.9% NaCl) or BCAA (30 mg dissolved in lmL saline) 5niin before 30min of submaximal exercise at the speed of 20 m/min, 9% incline (N = 14). BCAA composition was 10mg, 10mg and 10mg for leucine, isoleucine and valine. After the submaximal exercise test, blood was collected for the measurement of glucose, lactate, FFA. BCAA, and free tryptophan and brain samples were taken from the rat brain for determination of brain tryptophan, 5-HTP, 5-HT, 5-HIAA concentration by HPLC-ECD. Result: The plasma glucose concentration was significantly lower (p<.05) in the exercise group (SAL, BCAA) compared with the CON. whereas, the plasma FFA concentration was significantly higher (p<.05) in the exercise group (SAL, BCAA) compared with the CON. The plasma lactate concentration was significantly higher (p<.05) in the BCAA compared with the CON, and no significant differences were observed between the SAL group and the BCAA group. The plasma free tryptophan concentration was showed the tendency to increase in the exercise group (SAL, BCAA) compared with the CON. The plasma BCAA concentration was significantly higher (p<.05) in the BCAA compared with other groups. The free try ptophan/BCAA ratio was significantly lower (p<.05) in the BCAA compared with the SAL. The brain tryptophan, 5-HTP, 5-HT, and 5-HIAA concentrations were showed the tendency to decrease in the BCAA compared with the SAL. Conclusion: We expected that pre-exercise BCAA administration could decrease brain tryptophan and 5-HT concentrations and could increase exercise performance however, there was a tendency towards a lower brain tryptophan, 5-HTP, 5-HT, and 5-HIAA concentrations. Therefore, It is suppose that additional research on BCAA which could affect exercise performance and the activation of the enzyme which could affect 5-HT synthesis are required.

The PMSM is inherently electronically controlled and requires rotor position information for proper drives. However, the problems of the space, cost, and reliability of rotor position sensors have motivated research in the area of position sensorless PMSM drives. Numerous rotor position sensorless control techniques have been proposed for PMSM drives, but most rely directly or indirectly on the estimation of the rotor flux linkage vector. The performance of this method is poor due to the voltage distortions caused by the nonlinear behavior of a pulsewidth-modulation (PWM) voltage source inverter (VSI). In this paper, the nonlinearity in a PWM VSI is analyzed and a new online estimation method is proposed to compensate the voltage distortion. To prove effectiveness of the voltage distortion compensation method to the improvement of the rotor position estimation, the proposed method is applied to PMSM drive system and implemented in a digital manner using a digital signal processor.

우리 人體는 비행하는 것에 적합하도록 만들어져 있지는 않으며 과거에는 비행교육이 단순한 비행조작을 가르치는 일종의 기술교육으로 인식되어 왔으나 現在는 理論的인 기반과 해양훈련과 같은 특수훈련이 비행훈련 효과를 增大시키는데 必要한 要素임이 인정되고 있다. 비행훈련시 신체적인 구조에서 학생 조종사에게 영향을 줄 수 있는 要素들을 살펴 보면 인간의 심적 신체적 감각으로 실시할 수 있는 주의력 분배, 비행훈련 자세, 안정된 감각, 기타 주위의 경계 등 여러 가지를 들 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 해양훈련과 같은 특수훈련이 비행훈련을 實施하는 학생 조종사에게 어떻게 위의 要素들을 充足시키며 영향을 주고 비행교육 효율을 증가 시킬 수 있는지를 검토하고 연구할 것이다. Our body is not designed for flight, and in the past, flight instruction was emphased to the student's proficiency simply in the performance of practiced flight maneuvers. Also it is now recognized that the efficiency of the flight instruction must be base on the physical problems just as the sea training. One of the most important factors which affect to a student's perceptions is the mental and his physical organism such as division of attention, attitude, sense of physiological safety and the alertness. The following study plan was made out for the physical factors relative with the sea training and have described various problems to be contributed to the field of the effective flight instructions.

Clusterin, a secretory glycoprotein, has been shown to be up-regulated in the reactive astrocytes in response to brain injury and neurodegenerative diseases, but its function has not been clearly elucidated. In this study, we investigate whether clusterin has growth-stimulatory activity in astrocytes. Suppression of clusterin with antisense oligonucleotide induced growth arrest, whereas transient overexpression of clusterin by cDNA transfection or exogenous treatment with purified clusterin promoted proliferation of the primary astrocytes in culture. This clusterin-stimulated proliferation was abrogated by PD98059, an inhibitor of mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase. These results suggest that clusterin might play an important role in astrogliosis by stimulating the proliferation of astrocytes through activation of the extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 signaling pathway.
