Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

We named and described Clematis calcicola J. S. Kim, a new species of Clematis sect. Atragene (Ranunculaceae) found in a limestone area of Mt. Deokhang, Korea. Clematis calcicola is distinguished from the other species of sect. Atragene by 1) sparsely dentate, glabrescent, and subcoriaceous leaflets and 2) smooth and thick sepals.

Conclusion : The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 45.5% in 1997.

<P>Solution‐processable reduced graphene oxide as a hole‐transporting layer for highly efficient and stable organic solar cells is reported on page 4923 by Dong‐Yu Kim, Seok‐In Na, and co‐workers. Introduction of a newly reduced graphene oxide by simple solution processing into solar cells dramatically raises the cell efficiency and cell life‐time. The results will allow full use of chemically reduced graphene and will advance the realization of carbon‐based printable optoelectronic devices. </P>
Discovery of urinary metabolomic biomarkers for early detection of acute kidney injury

<P>The discovery of new biomarkers for early detection of drug-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) is clinically important. In this study, sensitive metabolomic biomarkers identified in the urine of rats were used to detect cisplatin-induced AKI. Cisplatin (10 mg kg(-1), i.p.) was administered to Sprague-Dawley rats, which were subsequently euthanized after 1, 3 or 5 days. In cisplatin-treated rats, mild histopathological alterations were noted at day 1, and these changes were severe at days 3 and 5. Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (SCr) levels were significantly increased at days 3 and 5. The levels of new urinary protein-based biomarkers, including kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), glutathione S-transferase-alpha (GST-alpha), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), calbindin, clusterin, neutrophil, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), and osteopontin, were significantly elevated at days 3 and 5. Among urinary metabolites, trigonelline and 3-indoxylsulfate (3-IS) levels were significantly decreased in urine collected from cisplatin-treated rats prior to histological kidney damage. However, carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), a hepatotoxicant, did not affect these urinary biomarkers. Trigonelline is closely associated with GSH depletion and results in insufficient antioxidant capacity against cisplatin-induced AKI. The predominant cisplatin-induced AKI marker appeared to be reduced in urinary 3-IS levels. Because 3-IS is predominantly excreted via active secretion in proximal tubules, a decrease is indicative of tubular damage. Further, urinary excretion of 3-IS levels was markedly reduced in patients with AKI compared to normal subjects. The area under the curve receiver operating characteristics (AUC-ROC) for 3-IS was higher than for SCr, BUN, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), total protein, and glucose. Therefore, low urinary or high serum 3-IS levels may be more useful for early detection of AKI than conventional biomarkers.</P>

<P><B>Objectives</B></P><P>Poststroke emotional incontinence (PSEI) has been associated with serotonergic dysfunction. Polymorphisms of serotonin transporter (5‐HTT) and serotonin 2a receptor (5‐HTR2a) genes may regulate serotonergic signaling at brain synapses, and this study was to investigate associations with PSEI in an East Asian population.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>In 276 stroke cases, PSEI was diagnosed by Kim's criteria. Covariates included age, gender, education, history of depression or stroke, current depression, and stroke severity and location. Genotypes were ascertained for 5‐HTT gene‐linked promoter region (5‐HTTLPR), serotonin transporter intron 2 variable number tandem repeat, 5‐HTR2a 1438A/G, and 5‐HTR2a 102 T/C. Associations with PSEI were estimated by using logistic regression models, and gene–gene interactions were investigated by using the generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction method.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>PSEI was present in 37 (13.4%) patients. The 5‐HTT gene‐linked promoter region <I>s</I>/<I>s</I> genotype was independently associated with PSEI. No associations with STin2 VNTR and 5‐HTR2a genes were found, and no significant gene–gene interactions were identified.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Stroke patients with 5‐HTTLPR <I>s</I> allele had higher susceptibility to PSEI, which underlines the potential role of serotonergic pathways in its etiology. 무선 인지 환경을 위한 효율적인 동적 스펙트럼 활당 기법

무선 기술이 발달함에 따라 주파수 자원의 부족문제가 점점 심해지고 있고, 이를 해결하기 위해 주파수 공유기술로 무선인지 (cognitive radio: CR)가 부각되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 CR 기반의 IEEE 802.22 WRAN 환경에서 동적 스펙트럼 할당 (Dynamic Spectrum Allocation: DSA) 기법을 연구하였다. 주파수를 좀 더 효율적으로 공유하기 위해 Variable bandwidth, 이동성, 셀 간 간섭을 적용한 DSA 기법을 제시하고 시뮬레이션 결과들을 통해 이를 검증하였다. As a wireless technique advances, the shortage problem of frequency resource has been gradually serious. Cognitive radio(CR) have been noticed to solve this problem by using frequency sharing methods. We investigate dynamic spectrum allocation(DSA) method in IEEE 802.22 WRAN environment of CR foundation in this paper. To share frequency more efficiently, we propose some DSA techniques for variable bandwidth, mobility, intercell interference and verify these through the result of the simulations.
Sheehan 증후군 발생한 Torsades de Pointes

재발하는 심실 빈맥으로 내원한 환자에서 Sheehan 증후군을 진단하였고, 적절한 호르몬 보충 치료 후 심전도 이상이 정상으로 회복된 예를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Torsades de Pointes is a form of polymorphic ventricular tachycardia that is associated with prolongation of QT intervals, characterized by QRS complexes of progressively changing ampulitude and cyclic length, giving the appearance of oscillations around the baseline. A 77 years-old woman was presented with hypotention and arrhythmia. Twenty four-hour ECG showed typical episodes of torsades de pointes with QT prolongation. This arrhythmia was controlled by isoproterenol and magnesium infusion, but it was not disappeared. She was diagnosed as Sheehan's syndrome by past history, anterior pituitary stimulation test and empty sella on CT scan. After hormone replacement treatment, Prolonged QT interval was normalized and polymorphic ventricular tachycardia has not recurred. We report a case of torsades de pointes associated with Sheehan's syndrome

최근 각종 제어시스템에 분산제어 시스템을 이용하는 경우가 늘고 있는데, 각 플랫폼에 따른 호환성 결여로 인하여 여러 가지 문제가 야기되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 어려움을 극복하기 위하여 사용 환경에 관계없이 각 분산제어 시스템을 연결하고자 개방구조를 설계하였다. 이를 위하여 OSI 7 layer model을 따른 protocal을 개발하였으며, 이것을 RPC와 XDR을 이용하여 구현하였다. 전체 시스템은 속도와 호환성을 모두 고려하였지만, 속도와 호환성이 모두 문제가 되는 것은 호환성을 위주로 설계하였다. Recently, many kind of control system is implemented by DCS(Distributed Control System). But that situation the compatible problem between different flatform system is arised. In this paper, we are about to describe the design of the system that makes a user to satisfy scalability, portablility, interoperability which is the characteristic of the open structure in DCS using real time control theory and microprocessor applicable technique. For this, we developed a protocal that followed OSI 7 layer model, and implemented this protocol using RPC and XDR. The system is considered the speed and the compatibility, but in the case of some problems in compatibility and speed, out design is intented to choose compatibility.
