Thermography shows the skin temperature changes in various conditions of the body. The skin temperature varies according to subcutaneous blood flow under the control of autonomic nervous system Lumbar radiculopathy due to disc herniation makes difference in the temperature of lower extremities caused by the changes in general function and autonomic functions of the nerve root. Digital infrared thermographic imaging(DITI) system has been used to diagnose radiculopathy without any hazards or discomforts and shows the pain due to LDH by objective change of temperature. This study has used DITIs of 55 control cases and 217 cases of LDH patients and analysed it statistically. In the room of temperature stable at 20℃, the temperature distribution of the lower extremities of the control cases ranged from 24.9℃ to 29.9℃. The significant minimal temperature difference between right and left lower extremities range from 0.1℃ to 0.4℃. The more distal, the greater the temperature difference was. The thermatome of L4. L5 and S1 was drawn in radiating type and spot type. The thermatome showed larger area than the sensory dermatome and sympathetic dermatome. There was significant increase or decrease of temperature in thermatome in LDH patients. In conclusion, preoperative DITI of the LDH patient can be helpful for diagnosing the level do LDH and the areas of pain.
배추 시스테인 단백질 분해 효소 억제 유전자 BCPI-1의 발현과 종자 발아 및 유묘 생장과의 연관성

Phytocystatins are protein inhibitors of cysteine proteinases of the papain family that have been identified in both monocot and dicot plants. A cDNA encoding a phytocystatin, BCPI-1 (Brassica Cysteine Proteinase Inhibitor-1) has been isolated from Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L. ssp. pekinensis) flower buds. Here, we tested whether BCPI-1 transcription is regulated by hormones, and could be involved in regulating cysteine proteinases during and after germination. BCPI-1 was sensitive to exogenous GA_(3) and ABA, which are important factors controlling seed germination, suggesting that the expression of BCPI-1 is hormonally regulated. We introduced a recombinant plasmid containing the full-length BCPI-1 cDNA under the control of cauliflower mosaic virus 35S promoter into rice embryogenic calli using the particle delivery method, and regenerated a number of transgenic rice plants. Constitutively over-expressed BCPI-1 caused changes in overall plant growth and development, including reduced germination and seedling growth. These data support the role of the BCPI-1 in the regulation of endogenous proteinases during both seed germination and subsequent seedling development. Phylocystatins은 papain계열의 cysteine 단백질 분해 효소 활성을 특이적으로 억제하는 억제자로 다양한 식물 종으로부터 분리되었다. 본고에서는, 배추 화아 cDNA library로부터 분리된 phytocystatin인 BCPI-1(Brassica Cysteine Proteinase Inhibitor-1)의 생체 내 기능에 대해 연구하였다. 먼저, BCPI-1 전사체는 발아 조절에 중요한 영향을 미치는 GA₃와 ABA에 의해 예민하게 증가, 혹은 감소되는 반응을 보임으로써, BCPI-1이 식물 호르몬의 영향을 받으며, 특히 발아나 유묘의 생장 조절에 관련이 있음을 알 수 있었다. Particle bombardment 방법을 통하여 BCPI-1을 벼의 배 형성 세포 내에 도입, 재분화 시켜 형질 전환 벼를 생성하였다. CaMV 35S promoter의 조절에 의해 지속적인 BCPI-1 발현을 보이는 형질 전환 벼의 경우, 발아와 유묘 생장이 현저히 지연되었다. 위의 결과들을 바탕으로, BCPI-1이 식물체 내에서 생성되는 cysteine 계열의 단밸질 분해 효소 활성을 조절하여 종자의 발아와 유묘의 생장에 영향을 미치는 것으로 추측한다.

Nokona regalis (Butler) and Toleria romanovi (Leech) (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae) are economically important pests of grape in northeast Asia. We compared the overwintering, damage and seasonal flight activities of these two species in Korean vineyards. Mature larvae of N. regalis overwintered in the infested shoots of grape, while T. romanovi overwintered as mature larvae enclosed within a cocoon in the soil. Larvae of the former species fed primarily in grape shoots (97.2%), whereas larvae of the latter species burrowed into main trunks (57.4%) and branches (40.4%), causing significant damage and frequent mortality. The seasonal fluctuation of male catches was monitored with pheromone traps in 2010. Male moths of N. regalis were present from late May until middle June, and peak abundance occurred in early June. T. romanovi males were trapped from early June to early August with peak catch in middle July in Suwon.

Effect of Midazolam, Fentanyl and Propofol for Intravenous Anesthesia in Patients Undergoing the Cardioversion Mee Young Chung, M.D., Jun Seuk Chea, M.D., Chang Jae Kim, M.D. Hee Yeol Kim, M.D.^*, Eun Ju Cho, M.D.^*, Hee Sang Park, M.D. and Byung Ho Lee, M.D. Department of Anesthesiology and ^*Cardiology Division, Department of Internal Medicine, College of Medicine, Catholic University, Seoul, Korea Background: Elective cardioversion is a short procedure performed under amnesia, sedation or anesthesia for the treatment of cardiac dysrhythmia. Midazolam, fentanyl and propofol on hemodynamic changes and side effects were studied. Methods: Thirty patients scheduled for an elective cardioversion in the coronary care unit received propofol 500 ㎍/kg I.V., followed by a continuous infusion with 25-75 ㎍/kg/min until they lost consciousness as as determined by cessation of response to verbal command. All patients received mi-dazolam 0.02 mg/kg and fentanyl 2 ㎍/kg I.V. 5 minutes before induction In addition, the cardiologist administrated the electric shock. Blood pressures and heart rates were measured prior to induction, after the administration of midazolam and fentanyl, after cardioversion, 5 minutes after cardioversion and recovery. The recovery time from termination drug administration to awakening, and the total dose of propofol were recorded. Patients were observed for side effects. Results: Systolic, mean, and diastolic blood pressures were significantly decreased 5 minutes after cardioversion and recovery. Heart rates were significantly decreased after cardioversion, 5 minutes after cardioversion and recovery. Recovery times were 22.1 ?? 14.9 minutes and the total dose of propofol was 0.79 ?? 0.39 mg/kg. Incidence of apnea (> 30 s) was 30%. Conclusions: We concluded that midazolam, fentanyl and propofol in patients undergoing an electric cardioversion decreased blood pressure and heart rate, but the cardiovascular status was maintained within clinically acceptable levels. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and report the antibacterial efficacy in relation to oral disease-causing bacteria using a mouthwash containing 0.05% CPC in an in vitro test. Methods: The sterilization test and susceptibility assay of mouthwash containing 0.05% CPC were investigated against Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sobrinus, and Lactobacillus acidophilus; Streptococcus sanguinis as oral bacteria related to dental caries; Enterococcus faecalis as apical periodontitis-related bacteria; and Actinomyces israelii, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Prevotella intermedia, Prevotella nigrescence, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, Treponema denticola, and Filifactor alocis as periodontal disease-related bacteria. Results: In the sterilization test, most of the bacteria had more than 99.99% sterilizing power for all samples but compared to other bacteria, the sterilizing power of these samples was not successful for L. acidophilus and E. faecalis bacteria. When comparing the sterilization power between the samples, sample 3 (0.05% CPC+20% ethanol) was the strongest. Conclusions: In the antimicrobial activity test, sample 3 inhibited growth at the lowest concentration overall.
