Effects of photoperiods, 24L or 24D, on the growth of the silkworm-dongchunghacho, the silkworm vegetable wasp and plant worm, were investigated. Exposure of the fungi under the photoperiod of 24L for at least 3 days during the cultivation of the fungi after the completion of endosclerotium in the host accelerated the spore formation, but the growth of the fruiting bodies was inhibited. On the contrary, the photoperiod of 24D inhibited the spore formation, but accelerated the growth of fruiting bodies without spores. Accordingly, to produce silkworm vegetable wasp and plant worm of large-size fruiting bodies with over 3㎝ in length, it is indicated that recommendable light condition is a photoperiod of 24D during the cultivation until the length of the fruiting body arrives at over 3㎝.

Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have a key role in carcinogenesis through negative regulation of their target genes. Therefore, genetic variations in miRNAs or their target sites may affect miRNA-mRNA interactions, thereby result in altered expression of target genes. This study was conducted to investigate the associations between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) located in the miRNA target sites (poly-miRTSs) and survival of patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: Using public SNP database and miRNA target sites prediction program, 354 poly-miRTSs were selected for genotyping. Among these, 154 SNPs applicable to Sequenom`s MassARRAY platform were investigated in 357 patients. A replication study was performed on an independent patient population (n = 479). Renilla luciferase assay and reverse transcription-PCR were conducted to examine functional relevance of potentially functional poly-miRTSs. Results: Of the 154 SNPs analyzed in a discovery set, 14 SNPs were significantly associated with survival outcomes. Among these, KRT81 rs3660G>C was found to be associated with survival outcomes in the validation cohort. In combined analysis,patients with the rs3660 GC+CC genotype had a signifi cantly better overall survival (OS) compared with those with GG genotype (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] for OS, 0.65; 95% confi dence interval [CI] 0.50-0.85; P= 0.001). An increased expression of the reporter gene for the C allele of rs3660 compared with the G allele was observed by luciferase assay. Consistently, the C allele was associated with higher relative expressionlevel of KRT81 in tumor tissues. Conclusions: The rs3660G>C affects KRT81 expression and thus infi uences survival in early-stage NSCLC. The analysis of the rs3660G>C polymorphism may be useful to identify patients at high risk of a poor disease outcome.

We have presented a case of juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma of the third ventricle with the features of the diencephalic syndrome. A 18 month old female child developed progressively lethargy, emaciation, pallor, tremor, right hemiparesis, nystagmus and marked hydrocephalus with symptoms of increased intracranial pressure. CT scan showed large decreased density in the suprasella area with extension to the left middle fossa and moderate right parasellar extension with irregular contrast enhancement, and dilatation of both lateral ventricles. The growth hormone increased very severely (80ng%). Biopsy was done through the left temporal lobe. Literatures were also reviewed.

Orbital meningioma is relatively rare. A case of intraorbital meningioma arising from optic nerve sheath is presented, which extended intracranially through the optic canal. Transfrontal intradural and extradural approach under the operating microscope is the best successful exposure for the orbital meningioma when there is suspected intracranial extension of the tumor.
Immuno blot에 의한 누에의 항 AMHP혈청에 대한 항원의 유충 및 성충 조직별 분포양태

누에 AMHP 항혈청을 사용하여 유충, 번데기, 나방기의 각종조직과 기관의 단백질 추출물에 대한 공통항원성 여부를 Western blot을 이용하여 검토분석하였다. 5령유충에서 성충기까지 AMHP 항혈청에 대한 공통항원성은 체액, 지방체, 중장, 난소, 정소에서 다같이 검출되었다. 이상의 결과는 AMHP가 부분적으로 누에에 변태대사에 관여하고 있음을 시사하는 것이다. Common antigenicity to anti-AMHP serum in the extracts of tissues and organs during metamorphic development of the silkworm, Bombyx mori, was detected by Western blot analysis. The antigens positively reacted to anti-AMHP serum were detected in haemolymph, fat body, mid-gut, ovary and testis during the metamorphic periods from the 5th larvae to the adult. This results reveal that the AMHP is partly related to metamprphic processing of the silkworm.
