An Object-Level Feature Representation Model for the Multi-target Retrieval of Remote Sensing Images

Zeng, Zhi,Du, Zhenhong,Liu, Renyi Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Eng 2014 Journal of Computing Science and Engineering Vol.8 No.2

To address the problem of multi-target retrieval (MTR) of remote sensing images, this study proposes a new object-level feature representation model. The model provides an enhanced application image representation that improves the efficiency of MTR. Generating the model in our scheme includes processes, such as object-oriented image segmentation, feature parameter calculation, and symbolic image database construction. The proposed model uses the spatial representation method of the extended nine-direction lower-triangular (9DLT) matrix to combine spatial relationships among objects, and organizes the image features according to MPEG-7 standards. A similarity metric method is proposed that improves the precision of similarity retrieval. Our method provides a trade-off strategy that supports flexible matching on the target features, or the spatial relationship between the query target and the image database. We implement this retrieval framework on a dataset of remote sensing images. Experimental results show that the proposed model achieves competitive and high-retrieval precision.

      • Computational Nodes Location using Spatial Points Clustering in P2P Network System

Zhi Zeng 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Future Generation Communi Vol.9 No.9

In order to implement big data access and process with high efficiency, an algorithm of nodes location was proposed according to the state of computable resources. In this paper, we first describe and map the computational resource with javascript object notation(JSON) in P2P network system. Regarding the computational nodes as spatial points, then we present a generalized euclid distance(GED) model using the method of spatial points clustering. Through this model, the computational nodes can partition into multiple sub-group upon the characteristic attributes. After that, we calculate the spatial distance and attribute distance by spatial geometric model of global network positioning(GNP), ultimately implement the computable nodes location with efficiency, to provide the basis of load balance, especially in cloud computing. Experimental results show that our method not only can significantly improve system performance, also in accuracy of nodes location.

      • A Proteomics Platform Combining Depletion, Multi-lectin Affinity Chromatography (M-LAC), and Isoelectric Focusing to Study the Breast Cancer Proteome

        Zeng, Zhi,Hincapie, Marina,Pitteri, Sharon J.,Hanash, Samir,Schalkwijk, Joost,Hogan, Jason M.,Wang, Hong,Hancock, William S. American Chemical Society 2011 ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY - Vol.83 No.12

<P>The discovery of breast cancer associated plasma/serum biomarkers is important for early diagnosis, disease mechanism elucidation, and determination of treatment strategy for the disease. In this study of serum samples, a multidimensional fractionation platform combined with mass spectrometric analysis were used to achieve the identification of medium to lower abundance proteins, as well as to simultaneously detect glycan and abundance changes. Immuno-affinity depletion and multi-lectin chromatography (M-LAC) were integrated into an automated HPLC platform to remove high abundance protein and fractionate glycoproteins. The collected glycoproteomes were then subjected to isoelectric focusing (IEF) separation by a digital ProteomeChip (dPC), followed by in-gel digestion and LC–MS analysis using an Orbitrap mass spectrometer. As a result, the total number of identified proteins increased significantly when the IEF fractionation step was included as part of the platform. Relevant proteins with biological and disease significance were observed and the dynamic range of the serum proteome measurement was extended. In addition, potential glycan changes were indicated by comparing proteins in control and cancer samples in terms of their affinity to the multi-lectin column (M-LAC) and the p<I>I</I> profiles in IEF separation. In conclusion, a proteomics platform including high abundance protein depletion, lectin affinity fractionation, IEF separation, and LC–MS analysis has been applied to discover breast cancer-associated proteins. The following candidates, thrombospondin-1 and 5, alpha-1B-glycoprotein, serum amyloid P-component, and tenascin-X, were selected as promising examples of the use of this platform. They show potential abundance and glycan changes and will be further investigated in future studies.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/ancham/2011/ancham.2011.83.issue-12/ac2002802/production/images/medium/ac-2011-002802_0006.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ac2002802'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

      • 8-60hIPP5m-Induced G2/M Cell Cycle Arrest Involves Activation of ATM/p53/p21cip1/waf1 Pathways and Delayed Cyclin B1 Nuclear Translocation

        Zeng, Qi-Yan,Zeng, Lin-Jie,Huang, Yu,Huang, Yong-Qi,Zhu, Qi-Fang,Liao, Zhi-Hong Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.9

Protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) is a major serine/threonine phosphatase that controls gene expression and cell cycle progression. The active mutant IPP5 ($8-60hIPP5^m$), the latest member of the inhibitory molecules for PP1, has been shown to inhibit the growth of human cervix carcinoma cells (HeLa). In order to elucidate the underlying mechanisms, the present study assessed overexpression of $8-60hIPP5^m$ in HeLa cells. Flow cytometric and biochemical analyses showed that overexpression of $8-60hIPP5^m$ induced G2/M-phase arrest, which was accompanied by the upregulation of cyclin B1 and phosphorylation of G2/M-phase proteins ATM, p53, $p21^{cip1/waf1}$ and Cdc2, suggesting that $8-60hIPP5^m$ induces G2/M arrest through activation of the ATM/p53/$p21^{cip1/waf1}$/Cdc2/cyclin B1 pathways. We further showed that overexpression of $8-60hIPP5^m$ led to delayed nuclear translocation of cyclin B1. $8-60hIPP5^m$ also could translocate to the nucleus in G2/M phase and interact with $pp1{\alpha}$ and Cdc2 as demonstrated by co-precipitation assay. Taken together, our data demonstrate a novel role for $8-60hIPP5^m$ in regulation of cell cycle in HeLa cells, possibly contributing to the development of new therapeutic strategies for cervix carcinoma.

How Technology and Innovation Drive Two Emerging Giants : China and India?

Zeng, Zhi Hua Institute for International Trade and Cooperation 2006 Asian International Studies Review Vol.7 No.1

Being the two must populous, and rapidly catching up developing countries, China and India's emergence is briskly the global growth dynamism and economic structure, and has been receiving great global attention all over the world. This paper is intended to examine these two countries' successes from a knowledge and innovation perspective, and to highlight some policy measures for ensuring long-term success. According to the author, the success of these two countries can be mainly attributed to : 1) successful economic reforms backed with clear visions and strategies from the top leadership in the face of crises; 2) tapping into the global knowledge and technologies through FDI foreign direct investment(mainly China) or Diaspora (especially India); 3) the creation of critical mass of innovation and human capital capabilities through a large pool of scientists and engineers and skilled labors; and 4) catching newly emerging knowledge-intensive industries such as information and communications technology(ICTs) and software. To maintain the current dynamisms and ensure continued success, both China and India need to take some effective measures to strengthen their long-term institutional, innovative, and human capacities. These mainly include improving the governance and the overall investment climate; spurring science and technology(S&T) and innovation activities, especially those of the private sector, and strengthening technology diffusion; enhancing R&D efficiency through better linkage with the production sector; further tapping into the global knowledge and technology stock; further leveraging the innovation clusters; improving the quality of education, especially that of the higher education, and establishing a lifelong learning system through a solid accreditation, certification, and qualification system, and extensive use of modern technologies.

Random vibration analysis of train-slab track-bridge coupling system under earthquakes

        Zhi-ping Zeng,Xian-feng He,Yan-gang Zhao,Zhi-wu Yu,Ling-kun Chen,Wen-tao Xu,Ping Lou 국제구조공학회 2015 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.54 No.5

This study aimed to investigate the random vibration characteristic of train-slab track-bridge interaction system subjected to both track irregularities and earthquakes by use of pseudo-excitation method (PEM). Each vehicle subsystem was modeled by multibody dynamics. A three-dimensional rail-slabgirder-pier finite element model was created to simulate slab track and bridge subsystem. The equations of motion for the entire system were established based on the constraint condition of no jump between wheel and rail. The random load vectors of equations of motion were formulated by transforming track irregularities and seismic accelerations into a series of deterministic pseudo-excitations according to their respective power spectral density (PSD) functions by means of PEM. The time-dependent PSDs of random vibration responses of the system were obtained by step-by-step integration method, and the corresponding extreme values were estimated based on the first-passage failure criterion. As a case study, an ICE3 high-speed train passing a fifteen-span simply supported girder bridge simultaneously excited by track irregularities and earthquakes is presented. The evaluated extreme values and the PSD characteristic of the random vibration responses of bridge and train are analyzed, and the influences of train speed and track irregularities (without earthquakes) on the random vibration characteristic of bridge and train are discussed.

        Chong-Zhi Wang,Lifei Hou,Jin-Yi Wan,Haiqiang Yao,Jinbin Yuan,Jinxiang Zeng,Chan Woong Park,Su Hwan Kim,Dae Bang Seo,Kwang-Soon Shin,Chun-Feng Zhang,Lina Chen,Qi-Hui Zhang,Zhi Liu,Clara Sava-Segal,Chun 고려인삼학회 2020 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.44 No.2

Background: Ginseng is a commonly used herbal medicine in treating various medical conditions. Chronic gut inflammation is a recognized factor for the development of colorectal cancer (CRC). In thisproject, Asian ginseng berry polysaccharide preparations were used to assess their effects on CRC andrelated immune regulation mechanisms. Methods: Ginseng berry polysaccharide extract (GBPE) and purified ginseng berry polysaccharideportion (GBPP) were used to evaluate their activities on human HCT-116 and HT-29 CRC cell proliferation. Interleukin-8 secretion analysis was performed on HT-29 cells. Naive CD4 cell isolation and T-helper celldifferentiation were performed and determined using flow cytometry for Th1 and Treg in addition to cellcycle and apoptotic investigation. Results: GBPE and GBPP significantly inhibited interleukin-8 secretion and cancer cell proliferation, inhibited CD4þIFN-gþ cell (Th1) differentiation, and decreased CD4þFoxP3þ cell (Treg) differentiation. Compared to the GBPE, GBPP showed more potent antiinflammatory activities on the malignant cells. This is consistent with the observation that GBPP can also inhibit Th1-cell differentiation better, suggestingthat it has an important role in antiinflammation, whereas Treg cells hinder the body’s immuneresponse against malignancies. Supported by cell cycle and apoptosis data, GBPE and GBPP, at variousdegrees, remarkably enhanced the anticancer activities of 5-fluorouracil. Conclusion: Data from this project suggested that Asian ginseng berry potentially has clinical utility inmanaging enteric inflammation and suppressing CRC through immunomodulation mechanisms.
