Background: Computed tomography (CT) is commonly used to evaluate the degree of sinus involvement in case of inverted papilloma (IP). However, CT cannot differentiate tumor from adjacent inflammatory mucosa or retained secretions. By contrast, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been reported to be useful in distinguishing IP from paranasal sinusitis. This study investigated whether preoperative assessment with MRI and CT accurately predict the extent of IP. Materials and methods: CT and MRI were retrospectively reviewed in 9 case of IP. Patients were categorized into staged based on CT and MRI findings according to the staging system proposed by Krouse. The involvement of IP in each sinus was also assessed. Results: Differentiation of IP from inflammatory disease may be more successful in routine case where the inflammatory mucosa has low signal intensity on T1-weighted images and very high signal intensity on T2-weighted images. CT imaging could not differentiate tumor from adjacent inflammatory mucosa or retained secretions. Conclusion: Preoperative MRI of IP can predict the location and extent of the tumor involvement in the paranasal sinuses and sometimes predicts malignant changes.
신경회로망을 이용한 맞대기 용접부의 잔류응력 예측에 관한 연구

In order to achieve effective prediction of residual stresses, the series experiment were carried out and measured the residual stresses using the backpropagation algorithm from the neural network and the sectional method. Using the experimental results, the optional control algorithms using a neural network should be developed in order to reduce the effect of the external disturbances on during GMA welding processes. Then the results obtained from this study showed that through comparison between the measured and calculated results, the neural network based on backpropagation algorithm might be controlled weld quality. This system can not only help to understand the interaction between the process parameters and residual stress, but also, improve the quantity control for welded structures.
Masserman 방법에 의한 뇌척수액 생성률 측정의 새로운 변형

Two modifications of the Masserman method for the measurement of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) formation have been designed and compared with the Pappenheimer technique, the Masserman method and its old form of modification in animal experiment. Among the theoretical limitations of the Masserman method, resorption of CSF during the period of measurement was taken into account with two modifications of its integration in this study. The first one was calculated by reduced formula for a simple integration and the second one was produced by Simpson's formula of integration. Twenty adult cats were used for the experiment. Mean CSF production rate calculated by the Pappenheimer method, the Masserman method, the modified Masserman method and newly designed two modifications were 0.0207±0.0018㎖/min, 0.0128±0.0031㎖/min, 0.0166±0.0027㎖/min, 0.0183±0.003㎖/min and 0.0197±0.0033㎖/min respectively. When compared with the Pappenheimer method, data obtained from the Masserman method were significantly underestimated(p<0.01). All modifications have well correlated with the Pappenheimer method, and newly modified Masserman methods showed better cerrespondence.

The objective of this thesis is to investigate the influence of the initial residual stress on the fatigue crack growth after the distribution of the initial residual stress is measured when the crack is growing from the compressive residual stress to the tensile residual stress field. In the case of as welded material, respective of load ratio, the span of the fatigue is the shortest in base metal, while in weld metal and HAZ, the crack growth was retarded due to the effect of the compressive residual stress at the crack tip as well as the span of the crack is longer than base metal. In region II that is in stable growth state of the fatigue crack, da/dN=C(ΔK)^m of power law was satisfied. Also, it was considered that the value of m is not affected by residual stress. Superimposing welding residual stress intensity factor K_res on ΔK, the value of ΔK_eff calculated was lower than ΔK in the same value of da/dN, while the ΔK_eff is almost the same at the high ΔK.

Background: Cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitors are family of molecules that regulate the cell cycle. The CDKN2, a CDK4 inhibitor, also called p16, has been implicated in human tumorigenesis. The CDKN2, inhibits the cyclin/CDK complexes which regulate the transition from G1 to S phase of cell cycle. There is a previous repot that homozygous deletion of CDKN2 region on chromosome 9p21 was detected frequently in astrocytoma, glioma and osteosarcoma, less frequently in lung cancer, leukemia and ovarian cancer, but not detected in colon cancer and neuroblastoma. However, little is known about the relationship between CDKN2 and laryngeal cancer. Therefore this study was initiated to investigate the role of CDKN2 in human laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma development. Materials and methods: We used 5 human laryngeal carcinoma cell lines whether they have deletion or losses of CDKN2 gene expression by DNA-PCR or RT-PCR, respectively. We examined 8 fresh frozen human laryngeal cancer tissues to detect the loss of heterozygosity(LOH) of CDKN2 PCR was performed by using micosatellite markers of short arm of human chromosome 9 (D9S126, D9S144, D9S156, D9S161, D9S162,D9S166, D9S166, D9S171,D9S200 and D9SIFNA).For informative cases, allelic loss was scored of the signal of one allele was significantly decreased in tumor DNA when compared to eh same allele in normal DNA. Results: the CDKN2 DNA deletion was observed in 3 cell lines. The CDKN2 mRNA expression was observed in only one cell line, which was very weak. LOH was detected in 7 cases(87.5%) Conclusion: These results suggest that CDKN2 plays a role in the carcinogenesis of human laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma

The development of the system is goal in this study.

Osteomas are benign osteoblastic tumors that occur mainly in the fronto-ethmoid areas ofthe head and neck region When they occasionally occur in the temporal bone, the external auditory canal is the most common site of origin; they rarely occur in the mastoid region Moreover, mastoid osteoma with mastoiditis is an extremely rare entity in the temporal bone Recently, the authors experienced a case of mastoid osteoma with mastoiditis in the left temporal bone. The mastoid osteoma was completely resected itself without a mastoidectomy, only for correction of the cosmetic deformity; the mastoiditis was not treated. Hence, the authors report the first case of a mastoid osteoma with mastoiditis in Korea, along with a review of the related literature.

The very few non-contact method are still in the early stage. One of the non-contact methods is by the use of the laser that has high-level of the accuracy for the measurement, and this laser also has excellent characteristics on which many studies for its applications are focused throughout the many fields. The dissertation is on the measurement of the strain caused by the characteristics of the spot welded zone which is used with 3-D ESPI system that is functionally modified through the laser ESPI(Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry) system. This system employed the SGCC 1.2t which are mainly used for the steel plate such as automobile, structure, electronics instrument, building material and electronic appliances.
