The effects of allylisothiocyanate on the biosynthesis of various fungus metabolites such as sterigrnatocystin, lipid, protein, citrate RNA and AMP from the culture of Aspergillius parasiticus R-716 were investigated. The content of sterigmatocystin, the precursor of aflatoxin, was lower in the culture added with 50ppm allylisothiocyanate after 48 hours, however was rather higher after 144 hours compared to that of the control. The addition of allylisothiocyanate resulted in the increase of lipid, protein, RNA in mycelium and the content of citrate in the media, but the amount of AMP was low.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to development and measure validity and reliability of evaluation tool for clinical nursing practice competency of Nursing students. Method: The participants in this study were 568 nurses who had worked for more than three years above in hospitals. A questionnaire of 79 items was administered to the nurses using a convenience sampling method. The data were collected from Sep. 12th, to Oct. 20th, 2004. Result: The derived outcome tool consisted of 6 factors of direct nursing actions and 6 factors of indirect nursing actions on the basis of 79 items. The 6 factors in direct nursing actions accounted for 76.84% of the variance and 6 factors in indirect nursing actions accounted for 79.68% of the variance on total scale. As a result of the item analysis, 79 items were selected and the internal consistency alpha coefficient was .9917. The value of Cronbach' alpha of direct nursing actions was .9640, indirect nursing actions was .9550. Conclusion: The results of this study show that useful application to the evaluation tool of clinical practice competency of Nursing students and further studies need to be done to verify clinical practice educational evaluation.

Objective Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the preferred treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). However, compliance with CPAP therapy varies among studies, and studies on its predictors are insufficient in Korea. This study aimed to identify factors that predict compliance with CPAP therapy in patients with OSA.Methods We retrospectively reviewed medical records, polysomnography (PSG) records, and self-report questionnaires of patients w ith OSA. Criteria for compliance was the use of CPAP devices for ≥4 h per night for ≥70% of the consecutive 30 nights (i.e., 21 days) during the first 3 months of treatment initiation. The patients were classified into two groups: compliant and non-compliant. Logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the clinical factors and PSG parameters associated with CPAP compliance.Results Of the 188 participants, 80 were classified into the compliant group and 108 into the non-compliant group. The ratios of stage N1 (p=0.011) and health insurance coverage (p=0.007) were significantly associated with compliance with CPAP, with an explanatory power of 18.6% (R<sup>2</sup>=0.186, p<0.001).Conclusion Stage N1 ratio and health insurance coverage were significant predictors of CPAP compliance. It is necessary to confirm whether the relationship between a high stage N1 ratio and compliance can be reproduced in a larger sample and in individuals from other countries.

Background: A Korean Multicenter Prospective cohort study of Active Surveillance or Surgery (KoMPASS) for papillary thyroidmicrocarcinomas (PTMCs) has been initiated. The aim is to compare clinical outcomes between active surveillance (AS) and an immediate lobectomy for low-risk PTMCs. We here outline the detailed protocol for this study. Methods: Adult patients with a cytopathologically confirmed PTMC sized 6.0 to 10.0 mm by ultrasound (US) will be included. Patients will be excluded if they have a suspicious extra-thyroidal extension or metastasis of a PTMC or multiple thyroid nodules orother thyroid diseases which require a total thyroidectomy. Printed material describing the prognosis of PTMCs, and the pros andcons of each management option, will be provided to eligible patients to select their preferred intervention. For the AS group, thyroidUS, thyroid function, and quality of life (QoL) parameters will be monitored every 6 months during the first year, and then annuallythereafter. Disease progression will be defined as a ≥3 mm increase in maximal diameter of a PTMC, or the development of newthyroid cancers or metastases. If progression is detected, patients should undergo appropriate surgery. For the lobectomy group, a lobectomy with prophylactic central neck dissection will be done within 6 months. After initial surgery, thyroid US, thyroid function, serum thyroglobulin (Tg), anti-Tg antibody, and QoL parameters will be monitored every 6 months during the first year and annuallythereafter. Disease progression will be defined in these cases as the development of new thyroid cancers or metastases. Conclusion: KoMPASS findings will help to confirm the role of AS, and develop individualized management strategies, for lowrisk PTMCs

The following results were obtained through studies related to bao(胞). I Bao(胞) is also called as uterus, ziaang(子臟), baogong(胞宮), xieshi(血室), dantian(丹田), mingmen(命門), baomen(胞門), and guanyuan(關元). It is one of the extraordinary organs. Both of man and woman have it. 2 Man controls qi(氣), so dantian(丹田) which is considered xieshi(血室) for man doesn't have it's own shape and woman controls blood so xieshi(血室) has it's own shape. 3 Bao(胞) is in front of rectum, back of bladder, between guanyuan(關元) and 氣海, shape of 女子胞 i is up side down triangle, the lower one branch is neck of uterus and the upper two branches are oviduct. Inside of Bao(胞) is vacant. 4 Bao(胞) is the origin of making essence and blood, and the place of completing essence, energy, and spirit(精氣神). Bao(胞) controls menstruation and also conceives and brings up embryo in woman. 5 Bao(胞) is related with channels of Du, Ren, Chong, and Dai directly and also related with twelve main meridians. Especially channels of Ren, and Chong control Bao(胞) the most importantly. 6 Bao(胞) is related with kidney, liver, and spleen very intimately.

Background/Aims: Recent evidence has identified the significance of type 2 iodothyronine deiodinase (DIO2) in various diseases. However, the role of DIO2 polymorphism in metabolic parameters in patients with hypothyroidism is not fully understood. Methods: We assessed the polymorphism of the DIO2 gene and various clinical parameters in 118 patients who were diagnosed with hypothyroidism from the Ansan-Anseong cohort of the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study. Furthermore, we systematically analyzed Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) data. Results: A total of 118 participants with hypothyroidism were recruited; 32 (27.1%) were homozygous for the Thr allele, 86 (73.9%) were homozygous for the Ala allele or heterozygous. Patients with hypothyroidism with DIO2 polymorphism without hypertension at baseline had higher incidence of hypertension compared to patients without DIO2 polymorphism. Analysis of the GTEx database revealed that elevation of DIO2 expression is associated with enhancement of genes involved in blood vessel regulation and angiogenesis. Conclusions: Commonly inherited variation in the DIO2 gene is associated with high blood pressure and prevalence of hypertension in patients with hypothyroidism. Our results suggest that genetic variation in the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid pathway in influencing susceptibility to hypertension.
