        The β₃-adrenergic receptor is expressed in visceral adipose tissue in humans and is thought to contribute to the regulation of the resting metabolic rate and lipolysis. We studied the influence of a mutation in the β₃ -adrenergic receptor gene(Trp64Arg) on body fat distribution, central obesity, lipid metabolism in 65 healthy young male adults. One out of 65 subjects were homozygous (Arg/Arg) for the trp64Arg mutation, 17 subjects were heterozygous (Trp/Arg), and 47 lacked the mutation(Trp/Trp). The body weight, height, body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio were similar between the subjects with- and without the mutation. Total body fat, abdominal fat amount, body fat distribution, serum total- and HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose, and insulin concentrations were also not different according to the presence or absence of the mutation. These results suggested that Trp64Arg mutation in β₃-adrenergic receptor gene is not a major contributing factor for central obesity or change in lipid metabolism in Korean young adults.

        Background: Most cases of Graves' disease have been treated by antithyroid drugs in Korea. The major drawbacks of antithyroid drugs are the relative high rate of relapse and the inconvinience of long term therapy. Measurement of TBII and TRH stimulation test have been considered as the most reliable tests predicting relapse, but the predictive power is not high enough to use in clinical situation. This study was performed to find good prognostic indicators in Graves' disease patients after the discontinuation of antithyroid drug therapy. Subjects and methods : We restrospectively evaluated 96 patients with Graves' disease who showed normal TRH test at the end of antithyroid drug therapy and were followed for more than one year. Serum T3, T4, T3/T4 ratio, TBII, Anti-TPO Ab and TGAb levels were measured at the time of diagnosis and at the end of therapy. Two to three months after withdrawal of antithyroid medication, serum TSH and free T3 responses to TRH were examined. These parameters were compared between the relapse group and the remission group. Results : Among the 96 patients, 22 patients(22.9%) relapsed(Group Ⅱ) and 74 patients(77.1%) remained in remmision(Group Ⅰ). No significant difference was observed between the relapse and the remission group in clinical parameters, serum T3, T4, TSH, T3/T4 ratio, TBⅡ and Anti-TPO Ab determined before and after treatment. Serum TSH and free T3 levels measured after TRH stimulation were also similar in both groups. Serum TGAb levels determined at the end of treatment were significantly higher in the remission group(p<0.05). Relapse following the discontinuation of therapy occured within 24 months in 72.7% of the relapsed cases. After 24 months, relapse rate was reduced significantly. Conclusion : These results suggest that high serum TGAb levels could be a favorable prognostic indicator for the long term remission of Graves' disease treated with antithyroid drugs, and may suggest that Hashimoto's thyroiditis is combined with Graves' disease in those patients.

        장기균형환율의 결정요인

        Under the Balassa-Samuelson model, the long-run equilibrium exchange rate condition is derived by assuming that the wage in the tradable goods equals that in the non-tradable goods. This paper relaxes this assumption and empirically examines the importance of wage differential between tradable and non-tradable goods in the long-run exchange rate. The cointegration analyses show that, in both nominal won/dollar exchange rate and in nominal effective exchange rate of won, the long-run equilibrium patterns in exchange rates are not found with the classical Balassa-Samuelson model. However, with the wage differential in the model, we find a strong long-run equilibrium in exchange rate. Based on the results, it is suggested that wage differential which also accounts for the differences in the labor market between tradable and non-tradable goods, should be included to analyze the long-run movement in the nominal exchange rate.

      • ESO 기법을 이용한 외팔보의 신뢰성 기반 위상최적설계

        This paper presents a Reliability-Based Topology Optimization (RBTO) using the Evolutionary Structural Optimization (ESO). An actual design involves uncertain conditions such as material property, operational load and dimensional variation. The Deterministic Topology Optimization (DTO) is obtained without considering of uncertainties related to the uncertainty parameters. However, the RBTO can consider the uncertainty variables because it has the probabilistic constraints, In order to determine whether the probabilistic constraint is satisfied or not, simulation techniques and approximation methods are developed, In this paper, the reliability index approach (RIA) is adopted to evaluate the probabilistic constraint, In order to apply the ESO method to the RBTO, a sensitivity number is defined as the change in the reliability index due to the removal of ith element. Numerical examples are presented to compare the DTO with the RBTO.

However, RBTO involves evaluation of probabilistic constraints, which can be done in two different ways, the reliability index approach (RIA) and the performance measure approach (PMA). Limit state function is approximated using Monte Carlo Simulation and Central Composite Design for reliability analysis. ESO, one of the topology optimization techniques, is adopted for topology optimization. Numerical examples are presented to compare the DTO with RBTO.

      • E. coli와 Staphylococcus aureus가 精子運動性에 미치는 影響

        This study was carried out to investigate the effect of sperm motility by E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus which were possible cause of infertility by genitourinary tract infection. Human spermatozoa, from 42 cases of healthy medical students, were exposed to E. coli(30 cases) and Staphylococcus aureus(12 cases) varying dilutions from 10^4, 10^5, 10^6 colonies/ml. of normal saline and broth solution. Spermatozoal numerical motility scale devised by Emmens was checked at the serial time of hours in vitro. The following results were obtained: 1. Sperm motility of control groups among pure semen, semen with normal saline, semen with broth solution and semen with broth extract contained endotoxin were no significant differences. 2. A sinificantly decreased sperm motility ensued in E. coli experimental groups than those of control groups. And the more bacteria concentrated the more significant decrease of sperm motility was observed. 3. There were no significant differences between control group and experimental groups in Staphylococus aureus.

        외래에서 항암화학요법을 받는 암환자들의 영양불량 위험도 연구

        Although it is well known that cancer patients suffer from malnutrition, there are few published studies on malnutrition in outpatients receiving chemotherapy in Korea. This study aimed to evaluate nutritional risk in oncology outpatients receiving chemotherapy and to show the baseline data to set up nutritional management programs for cancer patients. This is a retrospective observational analysis on 1,962 patients referred for nutritional education before or during chemotherapy at Seoul National University Hospital Cancer Center from January 2006 to May 2007. According to a malnutrition screening tool, the proportion of patients having malnutrition risk was 23.0%. In the case of upper gastrointestinal cancer, more than 50% of patients were assessed as being at the risk of malnutrition. They showed more than 7% weight loss compared to their usual body weight and poor oral intake; energy intake was less than 100% of Basal Energy Expenditure (BEE) and protein intake was less than or equal to 0.77 g/㎏/d. However, only 6.3% of breast cancer patients had risk of malnutrition and their oral intake was better; energy intake was 121% of BEE, and protein intake was 0.90 g/㎏/d. Outpatients receiving chemotherapy had different nutritional risk depending on their cancer site. Nutritional management program should be conducted differently, depending on the cancer site and upper gastrointestinal cancer patients at high risk of malnutrition should basically have nutritional assessment and intervention.

      • 변압기의 유동대전에 대한 유속 및 유온의 영향에 관한 연구

        本 硏究에서는 固體-液體 界面에서 液體가 流動할 때 발생되는 유동대전에 대한 硏究로서 大容量 變壓器내에서 絶緣油가 통과하는 通路를 모델링한 帶電 파이프를 設計·製作하고 대전 파이프내의 油路形狀에 따른 流動電流를 側定·分析하였다. 이러한 實驗으로부터 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 流動電流는 油速의 增加에 따라 線形的으로 增加하였으며, 油溫의 增加에 따라 약 46[℃]이하에서는 增加하고 그 이상에서는 感少한다. 2) 絶緣油의 흐름이 원활하게 되도록 油路形狀을 변화시키면 流動電流는 感少한다. In this paper, the streaming electrification generated at a solid-liquid interface is studied. Electrification pipe modeled on the oil path of the high power transformer is designed and manufactured. The Streaming current is measured as a function of oil velosity, temperature at each electrification pipe. From the result of this study the following conclusions are obtained. 1) The streaming current increases linearly with increasing of oil velocity and It increases at lower temperature than 46[℃]and decreases at higher temperature than 46[℃] 2) The smoother the flow of insulating oil is the less the streaming current decreases.
