Creativity and Limitation in Korean Learners` Acquisition of English Fricative Sounds
( Sun Ah Son ) 한국현대영어영문학회 2010 현대영어영문학 Vol.54 No.4
Learners reveal both creativity and limitations when acquiring their first language(L1) and when learning their second language(L2). The purpose of this paper is to investigate how L2 learners exercise their creativity when faced with foreign sounds which do not exist in their phonemic inventory. Specifically, this study focuses on the learning of English fricatives by Korean learners. Since many English fricatives do not exist in the Korean inventory, learning new sounds is not an easy task. However, Korean learners strategically use/cross-classify the existing features for successful attainment of the foreign fricative sounds. On the other hand, the same strategic use (cross-classifying of existing features) also leads to the ultimate failure of attainment of certain foreign sounds. Thus, the success and failure of L2 attainment can be regarded as examples of both the creativity and the limitations in learners` second language acquisition(SLA).
Floristic study of Jang-do (Isl.) in Korea
Son, Hyun-Deok,Gwon, Soon-Gyo,Jang, Jeong-Won,Sun, Eun-Mi,Kim, Byeol-Ah,Im, Hyoung-Tak The National Institute of Biological Resources 2013 Journal of species research Vol.2 No.2
We investigated the flora of Jang-do (Isl.), an island of the Heuksan archipelago, located in Heuksan-myeon, Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do and discussed the remarkable plants found there. Thirteen-field trips (total 27 days) were completed from May of 2004 to May of 2013. As a result, we identified the distribution of 423 taxa in Jang-do (Isl.), comprising 104 families, 285 genera, 335 species, 78 varieties and 10 forms. There are a total of 95 taxa of floristic regional indicator plants. The floristic regional indicators are as follows; four taxa of level V such as Impatiens furcillata, four taxa of level IV such as Hosta yingeri, 14 taxa of level III such as Ophioglossum vulgatum, 5 taxa of level II, and 58 taxa of level I. In addition 10 red data plants, 2 vulnerable species (VU) including Calanthe striata for. sieboldii, and 4 least concern species (LC) like Ardisia crenata, 2 not evaluated species (NE) such as Hosta yingeri, were found in the investigated area. An unrecorded species, Fragaria (Rosaceae), was found in a forest of Jang-do (Isl.) for the first time in Korea.
Consumer Spatial Behavior for Apparel Products based on Trade Area Selection Criteria
Son, Jin-Ah,Rhee, Eun-Young,Park, Hye-Sun The Korean Society of Costume 2012 International journal of costume and fashion Vol.12 No.1
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between consumer spatial behavior and consumer characteristics based on trade area selection criteria 469 female consumers who lived in the two new towns near Seoul, Bundang and Ilsan, participated in the study by completing questionnaires. Data were analyzed by using cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, chi-square analysis, etc. The findings of the empirical research were as follows: 1. Five groups were identified by cluster analysis based on trade area selection criteria of clothing price-oriented group, time convenience-oriented group, shopping convenience-oriented group, variety/entertainment-oriented group, and passive shopping group. 2. Each group differed in spatial behavior such as clothing shopping area, the visiting frequency, and spatial movement type. 3. Each group showed differences in fashion involvement and demographic characteristics(age, marital status, education, occupation and social status).

The secretion of proteins that lack a signal sequence to the extracellular milieu is regulated by their transition through the unconventional secretory pathway. IDE (insulin-degrading enzyme) is one of the major proteases of amyloid beta peptide (A beta), a presumed causative molecule in Alzheimer disease (AD) pathogenesis. IDE acts in the extracellular space despite having no signal sequence, but the underlying mechanism of IDE secretion extracellularly is still unknown. In this study, we found that IDE levels were reduced in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with AD and in pathology-bearing AD-model mice. Since astrocytes are the main cell types for IDE secretion, astrocytes were treated with A beta. A beta increased the IDE levels in a time- and concentration-dependent manner. Moreover, IDE secretion was associated with an autophagy-based unconventional secretory pathway, and depended on the activity of RAB8A and GORASP (Golgi reassembly stacking protein). Finally, mice with global haploinsufficiency of an essential autophagy gene, showed decreased IDE levels in the CSF in response to an intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) injection of A beta. These results indicate that IDE is secreted from astrocytes through an autophagy-based unconventional secretory pathway in AD conditions, and that the regulation of autophagy is a potential therapeutic target in addressing A beta pathology.
