        Effect of Non-animal-Derived Nitrogen Sources on the Production of Hyaluronic Acid by Streptococcus sp. KL0188

        Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a linear high-molecular-weight polysaccharide with useful biomedical applications. Streptococcus zooepidemicus, a typical HA-producing bacterium, requires an animal-derived nitrogen source such as tryptone, peptone or sheep blood as a nutrient. Sixteen non-animal-derived (NAD) nitrogen sources were tested as a replacement for the expensive animal-derived nitrogen sources, which may have safety issues. Among the sixteen tested NAD nitrogen sources, a yeast-derived nitrogen source (YE 0251) showed the highest HA productivity, which was equivalent to the control HA production medium containing tryptone in a 5-L jar and in 3,000-L industrial fermentations. In the 3,000-L fermentation, YE 0251 increased cell mass (dry cell weight) and HA production by 11% and 8%, respectively, compared with the control HA production medium. The fmal specific volumetric productivity (0.41 g/L h) was improved by about 70% after reducing the fermentation time from 20 h to 12 h, compared to the conventional production medium.

      • The Homologous Tripartite Viral RNA Polymerase of A/Swine/Korea/CT1204/2009(H1N2) Influenza Virus Synergistically Drives Efficient Replication and Promotes Respiratory Droplet Transmission in Ferrets

        <P>We previously reported that influenza A/swine/Korea/1204/2009(H1N2) virus was virulent and transmissible in ferrets in which the respiratory-droplet-transmissible virus (CT-Sw/1204) had acquired simultaneous hemagglutinin (HA<SUB>D225G</SUB>) and neuraminidase (NA<SUB>S315N</SUB>) mutations. Incorporating these mutations into the nonpathogenic A/swine/Korea/1130/2009(H1N2, Sw/1130) virus consequently altered pathogenicity and growth in animal models but could not establish efficient transmission or noticeable disease. We therefore exploited various reassortants of these two viruses to better understand and identify other viral factors responsible for pathogenicity, transmissibility, or both. We found that possession of the CT-Sw/1204 tripartite viral polymerase enhanced replicative ability and pathogenicity in mice more significantly than did expression of individual polymerase subunit proteins. In ferrets, homologous expression of viral RNA polymerase complex genes in the context of the mutant Sw/1130 carrying the HA<SUB>225G</SUB> and NA<SUB>315N</SUB> modifications induced optimal replication in the upper nasal and lower respiratory tracts and also promoted efficient aerosol transmission to respiratory droplet contact ferrets. These data show that the synergistic function of the tripartite polymerase gene complex of CT-Sw/1204 is critically important for virulence and transmission independent of the surface glycoproteins. Sequence comparison results reveal putative differences that are likely to be responsible for variation in disease. Our findings may help elucidate previously undefined viral factors that could expand the host range and disease severity induced by triple-reassortant swine viruses, including the A(H1N1)pdm09 virus, and therefore further justify the ongoing development of novel antiviral drugs targeting the viral polymerase complex subunits.</P>

        This study proposes an optimized diffuser strake design that can improve driving performance for cars in high-speed driving mode. The speed of the vehicle is set to 160km/h, and the number of strake is set to 4, 6 and 8, and the angle of the diffuser is set to 4, 5 and 6 degrees. The arrangement of the strake is centered, edged and equally arranged. The optimized diffuser design induced with the Ansys Fluent analysis shows a drag coefficient of 16% less than the basic diffuser-free model at a diffuser angle of 6 degree, 8 strakes, and equal arrangement.

        In this paper, we propose a face region detection based on skin-color distribution and facial feature extraction algorithm in color still images. To extract face region, we transform color using general skin-color distribution. Facial features are extracted by edge transformation. This detection process reduces calculation time by a scale-down scanning from segmented region. we can detect face region in various facial Expression, skin-color deference and tilted face images.

        성장기 아동에서 Cervical Headger 사용시 골격적 변화 양상에 대한 연구

        성장기 아동의 Class II 부정교합에서 과도한 성장의 억제, 미약한 성장의 촉진으로 성장 시기에 적절히 치료하는 것이 가장 효과적이며 좋은 치료 방법이다. 이러한 방법 중 가장 적절히 쓰이는 장치 중 Cervical headgear의 사용을 들수 있으며 악골에 효과적으로 적용된다. 그러나 장치의 부작용이라 할 수 있는 수직적 성장의 과잉을 볼 수 있는데 이에 대해 많은 서학들의 연구가 시행되어 왔다. 본 연구는 Cervial headgear의 상하악골에 대한 효과를 분석하고 Lower facial height를 기준으로 증가군(>0)과 증가하지 않은 군 ( ≤0)으로 나누어 골격적 특성을 알아보기 위해 단국대학교 부속 치과병원에 내원한 성장기 아동의 II급 부정교합환자 25명을 대상으로 cervical headgear를 사용한 결과 다음과 같이 다소의 지견을 얻었기에 보고하는 바이다. 1. 상악골의 전방 성분이 억제되었고, 구개 평면의 전방이 하방으로 tipping되었으며 상악 제 1대구치의 후방 이동이 있었다. 2. 하악골의 두개저에 대한 상대적인 전방 이동이 있었으며 상악에 대한 하악 제1대구치의 상대적인 전방 이동이 있었고 하악골의 alveolar growth에 의한 수직적인 증가가 있었다. 3. 전안면 고경과 후안면 고경이 각기 유의하게 증가했으나 안면 고경 비율에는 유의성이 없었다. 4. Lower facial height가 증가한 group이 증가하지 않은 group보다 ramus의 길이가 짧고 palatal plane angle이 더 작았으며 상악 제 1대구치의 후방 이동량이 더 많았다. This study was to investigate the horizontal & vertical bone change pattern when using cervical headgear in Class II malocclusion of growing children and compared the skeletal features between the group with increased lower facial height and the group without increase in lower facial height. The results are as follows ; 1. Forward growth of maxilla was inhibited, downward tipping of anterior palatal plane could be seen and distal movement of maxillary first molar was observed. 2. There was relative forward movement of Mandible against the Maxillary cranial base, and relative forward movement of mandibular 1st molar against the Maxilla and vertical increase due to alveolar growth of Mandible. 3. There was significant increase in anterior and posterior facial heights but the ratio of facial height showed no significant difference. 4. The group with increased lower facial height has shorter ramus length, than the smaller palatal plane angle, and more distal movement of Maxillary 1st molar than the group without increase Ha-young Hyun.

        In the normal skin, melanocytes maintain their constant population and their melanogenic activity in steady state, but respond to several stimulus such as UV radiation and chemical irritation, to accentuate proliferation and differentiation, leading to hyperpigmentation of the skin. Human Keratinocytes produce and secrete endothelin-1, which can be strong mitogens for human melanocytes. The paracrine linkage of endothelin-1 between keratinocytes and melanocytes suggested that endothelin-1 is intrinsic mediators for human melanocytes in UVB-induced pigmentation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the new whitening agent, which improve the hyperpigmentation by inhibiting the ET-1. So, we add ET-1 and five kinds of ETRA into the cultured normal human melanocyte and then three days later, each ETRA on ET-1 was measured melanocyte number and inhibitory effect of melanin synthesis, respectively. In this study, ETRA has a inhibitory effect on ET-1 induced melanocyte proliferation and melanogenesis. ETRA I has a strong inhibitory effect on melanocyte proliferation and ETRA Ⅱ has a strong inhibitory effect melanogenesis. western blotting results shows negative. It may be due to the processing error of protein denaturing or low antigen -antibody affinity. But, we also confirm that ETRA Ⅱ has a inhibitory effect of tyrosinae synthesis by RT-PCR

      • 반도성 BaTiO₃의 PTCR 효과에 미치는 첨가제와 냉각속도의 영향

        In this study, first, we measured the PTCR effects according to the variations of dopant amount (0.1-0.3wt% Sb₂O₃, 0.075-0.175w1% ??) of BaTiO₃specimens, which fired at 1320℃ in 1 hour and cooled 100℃/hr rate. Second. we measured the PTCR effects according to the colling rate (200℃/11r, 100℃/hr, 50℃/11r) of 0.lwt% Sb₂O₃or 0.075wt% ?? doped BaTiO₃ specimens which have the best characteristics. Third, we investigated the PTCR effects and microstructures according to the variations of MnSO₄additive amount (0.0045 - 0.0125wt%) of BaTiO₃, specimens based on the compositions and cooling rate which showed the best characteristics from previous experiments. The results were that the PTCR effects were increased and the grain growths were inhibited as the increased amount of MnSO₄and slowed cooling rate.

        7β[5-(Substituted) phenyl-2H-tetrazol-2-yl]acetamidocephalospranic acid, 7β-(5-Diphnenyl-methyl-2H-tetrazol-2-yl) acetamidocephalosporanic acid and 7β-[5-(Substituted)-4-phenyl-1.2.4-triazol2-yl]thioacetamidocephalosporanic acid were synthesized and tested in vitro antimicrobial activity. These compounds exhibited good antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria whereas most compounds showed decreased antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative bacteria

        Customized 3D Printed Bolus for Breast Reconstruction for Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM)

        We aim to develop the breast bolus by using a 3D printer to minimize the air-gap, and compare it to commercial bolus used for patients undergoing reconstruction in breast cancer. The bolus-shaped region of interests (ROIs) were contoured at the surface of the intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) thorax phantom with 5 mm thickness, after which the digital imaging and communications in mdicine (DICOM)-RT structure file was acquired. The intensity-modulated radiation therapy (Tomo-IMRT) and direct mode (Tomo-Direct) using the Tomotherapy were established. The 13 point doses were measured by optically stimulated luminescence (OSLD) dosimetry. The measurement data was analyzed to quantitatively evaluate the applicability of 3D bolus. The percentage change of mean measured dose between the commercial bolus and 3D-bolus was 2.3% and 0.7% for the Tomo-direct and Tomo-IMRT, respectively. For air-gap, range of the commercial bolus was from 0.8 cm to 1.5 cm at the periphery of the right breast. In contrast, the 3D-bolus have occurred the air-gap (i.e., 0 cm). The 3D-bolus for radiation therapy reduces the air-gap on irregular body surface that believed to help in accurate and precise radiation therapy due to better property of adhesion.
