        Effect of Ultrasonic Melt Treatment on Solidification Microstructure of Al–5Ti–1B Alloy Containing Numerous Inoculant Particles

        The effect of ultrasonic melt treatment (UST) on the solidification microstructure of an Al–5Ti–1B alloy containing highvolumefractions of Al3Tiand TiB2particles is investigated for various UST times with different melt holding times. Theas-cast Al–5Ti–1B alloy is composed of TiB2and polygonal Al3Tiparticles (present prior to UST), plate-like Al3Tiparticles,and Al grains (formed during UST and/or solidification). The UST causes a size reduction and homogeneous distributionof the TiB2-agglomerated region containing many submicron-sized TiB2particles pushed to the grain boundaries. The USTslightly decreases the size and improves the distribution of polygonal Al3Tiparticles enriched in the TiB2-agglomeratedregion. Unlike the TiB2and polygonal Al3Tiparticles, which exhibit a minor refining effect, the plate-like Al3Tiparticlesshow a significant refinement with UST application. The UST has a significant effect on the size distribution of Al grains byinducing the formation of medium-sized grains at the expense of small and large grains; however, it only has a slight effecton grain refinement. The degree of microstructure modification increases with increasing UST time but decreases with meltholding time after UST. The mechanisms for the refinement and dispersion of the TiB2and Al3Tiparticles and Al grains arediscussed considering fragmentation, nucleation, and growth behaviors induced by the UST and subsequent solidification.

      • 대상포진에 대한 한방 단독 치료 치험 2례

        Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report a 67-year-old male patient with Herpes zoster(caseⅠ) and a 38-year-old female patient with Herpes zoster(caseⅡ), whose symptoms were relieved after Korean medicine treatment alone. Methods : Both patients took Yeonryeonggobondan and Pyungwee-san daily. Everytime they came to the hospital, they received acupuncture treatment, Hwidam's Su-Gi therapy and External Gigong Therapy. Acupuncture was applied by gall bladder seunggyeok(膽勝格, GB-), spleen jeonggyeok(脾正格, SP+), large intestine seunggyeok(大腸勝格, LI-) of Saam's Acupuncture Method. Hwidam's Su-Gi therapy was applied on neck. External Gigong Therapy was applied on skin lesion area. the patients' symptoms were evaluated with photographs and VAS. Results : The results were as follows: 1. In the case of a 67-year-old male patient, it took 14 days to recover the skin lesions and to reduce the pain after treatment started. And he visited 13 times during that period. 2. In the case of a 38-year-old female patient, it took 23 days to recover the skin lesions to reduce and the pain after treatment started. And she visited 10 times during that period. 3. Intensive treatment early in treating herpes zoster helped to shorten the treatment period. 4. Taking Yeonryeonggobondan and Pyungwee-san and receiving acupuncture treatment(SP+) can help to improve immunity and recover skin lesions in herpes zoster diagnosed with spleen deficiency with dampness encumbrance(脾虛濕困) and blood stasis due to qi stagnation(氣滯血瘀). 5. The combination of acupuncture treatment(GB-) and External Gigong Therapy was effective in controlling pain. 6. External Gigong Therapy is considered to be effective for the recovery of the skin as well as the pain of the herpes zoster. Conclusions : Korean medicine treatment alone has a great effect on the above two patients with herpes zoster. I hope the active research about Korean medicine treatment will be done not only for herpes zoster but also for various intractable pain diseases.

        Background : The cun measurement System, an essential and convenient method in locating acupoints, has been widely used in the practice of acupuncture. However, traditional cun measurement has been criticized for its lack of reliability. Objectives : The purposes of this study are to determine if one cun measured by the directional methods have a consistency with that of proportional methods and to investigate which factors are related with these differences, especially in forearm. Methods : The distance between the elbow crease and the wrist crease of forearm was compared to a reference value of one cun obtained by the directional method. In this method, one cun is one third of the distance between index finger and Small finger of a subject, measured at proximal interphalangeal joint. In addition, to investigate the factors influencing the differences between these two methods, we measured the height and body weight and calculated body mass index (BMI). Finally we analyzed the factors correlated with these lengths by linear regression test. Results : The results showed that one cun obtained by the directional methods were significantly different from one cun by the proportional methods in forearm. It was demonstrated that the length acquired with the directional method was more correlated with body weight and body mass index, while the length obtained by the proportional method was more correlated with the height.

        치료환경에 따른 만성정신질환자의 삶의 질

        연구목적: 일 지역사회(나주시) 만성정신질환자 대상의 치료환경을 그 환경적 특성에 따라 전통적인 외래치료환경, 개방적인 입원치료환경, 폐쇄적인 입원치료환경으로 분류하고, 각각의 치료환경에 거주하는 만성정신질환자의 주관적 및 객관적 삶의 질을 평가 비교함으로서 치료환경의 특성과 차이를 알아보고자 하였다. 방 법: 전통적인 외래치료환경 환자 85명, 개방병동 입원환자 67명, 폐쇄병동 입원환자 58명이었다. 이들에게 Lehman quality of life scale을 사용하여 반구조적 면담을 시행하여 삶의 질의 객관적 및 주관적 지표들의 지수를 측정하고 세 환경간 측정치를 비교하였다. 세 집단간의 차이를 분석하기 위해 ANOVA Test와 χ²검증을 사용하였다. 결 과: 환자들의 자율성과 다양한 정신사회재활 서비스가 제공되고 있는 개방병동 환자들의 전반적인 생활에 대한 만족도가 지역사회 및 폐쇄병동의 환자들에 비해 더 높았다. 지역사회에서 외래치료를 받는 환자들은 한달 쓰는 용돈이 많고 피해를 본 경험이 적었지만, 여가활동 및 사회적 접촉빈도가 입원환자에 비해 더 낮았고, 건강과 재정, 여가활동의 주관적 만족도도 더 낮았다. 입원치료중인 만성질환자들은 지역사회 환자들에 비해 여가활동 및 사회적 접촉빈도가 더 많았고, 월 평균 쓰는 비용이 더 적었지만 주관적 만족도는 오히려 더 높았다. 또한 이들은 최근 1년간 폭력 및 비폭력에 피해를 당한 경험이 더 많았으며, 건강에 관한 만족도는 더 높았다. 결 론: 치료환경의 특성에 따라 만성정신질환자가 보고하는 삶의 질에 차이를 보였으며, 개방병동에서 생활하고 있는 만성정신질환자들의 삶의 질이 가장 높았다. 향후 지역사회에 거주하고 있는 환자들의 삶의 질 향상을 위해서는 다양한 정신사회재활 서비스가 제공될 필요성이 있을 것으로 보았다. Objectives: This study aimed to figure out the characteristics and differences of therapeutic environment by classifying into closed-ward inpatient, open-ward inpatient and community residence out-patient environment and comparing objective and subjective quality of life of each group. Methods : The subjects consisted of 67 open-ward chronic inpatients, 58 closed -ward inpatients in the National Naju Mental Hospital and 85 outpatients living in Naju. We measured objective and subjective quality of life using semi-structural interview by Leman`s quality of life scale and compared the 3 groups. We used one-way ANOVA and chi-square test to analyze the differences of the 3 groups. Results: Open-ward inpatients who have autonomy and various community service program were more satisfied with their general life than the others. Community residence outpatients spent more money and less assaults experience but their leisure activities and social contact frequencies were lower than in the inpatients. Outpatients were less satisfied with their health, finances and leasure activities. Inpatients had made leisure activities and higher social contact frequency than outpatients. They were more satisfied with their finances despite of the spending less the money monthly than the outpatients. They experienced violence and damage more often for the past one year and were more satisfied with their health. Conclusions: The quality of life reported by chronic mental patients differed according to the characteristics of therapeutic environment. The life-quality of open-ward inpatients were the highest among the 3 groups. It is necessary to serve various community service program so that we can improve the life-quality of community residence outpatients.

      • Benzoyl peroxide의 환경에서의 초기 위해성 평가

        Benzoyl peroxide is a High Production Volume Chemical, which is produced about 1,375 tons/year in Korea as of 2001 survey. The substance is mainly used as initiators in polymerization, catalysts in hte plastics industry, bleaching agents for flour nad medication for acne vulgaris. In this study, quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships(QSAR) are used for getting adequate information on the physical-chemical properties of this chemical. And hydrolysis in water, acute toxicity to aquatic and terrestrial organisms for benzoyl peroxide were studied. The physical-chemical properties of benzoyl peroxide were estimated as followed; vapor pressure=0.00929 pa, Log K_(ow)=3.43, Henry's Law constant=3.54×10^(-6) atm-m³/mole at 25℃, the half-life of photodegradation=3days and bioconcentration factor(BCF)=92. Hydrolysis half-life of benzoyl peroxide in water was 5.2hr at pH 7 at 25℃ and according to the structure of this substance hydrolysis product was expected to benzoic acid. Benzoyl peroxide has toxic effects on the aquatic organisms. 72 hr-ErC_(50)(growth rate) for algae was 0.44mg/L, 48hr-EC_(50) for daphnia was 0.07mg/L and the 96hr-LC_(50) of acute toxicity to fish was 0.24mg/L. Acute toxicity to terrestrial organisms(earth worm) of benzoyl peroxide was low(14 day-LC_(50)=>1,000mg/kg). Although benzoyl peroxide is high toxic to aquatic organisms, the substance is not bioaccumulated because of the rapid removal by hydrolysis (half life=5.2hr at pH 7 at 25℃) and biodegradation(8.% by BOD after 21days). The toxicity observed is assumed to be due to benzoyl peroxide rather than benzoic acid, which shows much lower toxicity to aquatic organisms. One can assume that effects occur before hydrolysis takes place. From the acute toxicity value of algae, daphnia and fish, an assessment factor of 100 was used to determine the predicted no effect concentration(PNEC). The PNEC was calculated to be 0.7㎍/L based on the 48hr-EC_(50) daphnia(0.07mg/L). The substance shows high acute toxicity to aquatic organisms and some information indicates wide-dispersive use of this substance. So this substance is a candidate for further work, even if it hydrolysis rapidly and has a low bioaccumulation potential. This could lead to local concern for the aquatic environment and therefore environmental exposure assessment is recommended.

        Electronic Commerce(EC) is rapidly spreading on the Internet. For supporting EC, we need more necessity of electronic payments. Especially, most of EC on the Internet is small accounts(micro-payments), so electronic payment system must suit to dealing (or micro-payments. Lots of micro-payment system are studied and developed. Most of electronic micro-payments protocol have studied on the base of electronic money. But, owing to lack of understanding and difficulty to fit real practical situation it may be premature to apply practical Internet environment. We propose an electronic micro-payments protocol for information goods. Our protocol is acted on basis of bank account, so it is easy to apply on Internet for EC.

      • 고추 역병 저항성 재료의 특성평가와 종자 증식

        역병 저항성 재료로 도입하여 유지하고 있는 PI123469, PI201234, PI201232, AC2258 (=Line 29), CM334, KC268, KC358, KC820, KC821, KC822, KC823 (Line 29 = AC2258), KC462, KC463, KC464 혹은 이들 유전자원에서 선발한 계통들의 역병에 대한 저항성 검정, 원예적 특성 조사 및 종자 증식을 실시하였다. PI123469, PI201234, PI201232, AC2258, KC823 에서 선발된 계통들이 가장 저항성이 강한 것으로 나타났다. 동일한 유전자원에서 선발한 계통간에도 저항성 수준에서 현저한 차이가 관찰되는 경우가 있었으며, 이러한 경우는 주로 유지 증식과정에 자연교잡이 일어난 결과로 추정되었다. 따라서 순도 높은 저항성 재료를 얻기 위해서는 봉지를 씌워 자식종자를 채종하는 것이 가장 안전하며, 다음으로는 계통 망실 혹은 망상을 이용하는 것이 바람직한 것으로 판단되었다. Resistance to Phytophthora capsici and horticultural characteristics of selections from the resistance sources such as PI123469, PI201234, PI201232, AC2258 (=Line 29), CM334, KC268, KC358, KC820, KC821, KC822, KC823 (Line 29), KC462, KC463, KC464 were evaluated and recorded in the process of seed increase. Selections of PI123469, PI201234, PI201232, AC2258, KC823 (Line 29 = AC2258) of them showed the highest level of resistance. A considerable difference in the level of resistance was observed between lines selected from the same sources. The variation between selections derived from the same source was thought to ve attributable to natural cross-pollination that may have occurred during the seed increase. Therefore, securing self-pollinated seed by wrapping the flower buds before anthesis would be necessary to obtain genetivally pure resistant lines. The next alternative would be to increase the seed in small net houses for single line or field cage.
