        Carnosine Promotes Exhaustive Swimming Capacity in Mice

        To investigate the effect of carnosine on exhaustive exercise, swimming tests were conducted weekly with loads corresponding to 5% of body weight attached to the tails of mice, and the swimming time to exhaustion was measured. Eighty male ICR mice were divided into four groups, to which carnosine was administered at doses of 0 (control), 10, 50, and 250 mg/kg/day, respectively, for a period of four weeks. At the end of swimming exercise challenges, serum biochemistry, oxidative stress enzyme activity, and antioxidant enzyme activity in tissues were determined. Treatment with 250 mg/kg carnosine resulted in a significant increase in swimming times to exhaustion, compared to the control group in the first (P<0.01) and third week (P<0.05). Significantly lower serum lactate levels were observed after the swimming exercise in the carnosine-treated groups (10 and 250 mg/kg), compared with the control (P<0.01). Malondialdehyde levels in the liver (10 and 50 mg/kg carnosine treated groups) and skeletal muscle (250 mg/kg carnosine treated group) were significantly lower, compared with the control (P<0.05). Significantly lower protein carbonyl levels in skeletal muscle were observed in the 50 and 250 mg/kg carnosine treated groups, compared with the control (P<0.01). Superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities in skeletal muscle did not differ significantly among the groups. These results indicate that carnosine may improve swimming exercise capacity by attenuating production of lactate and reducing oxidative stress in mice.

      • Saccharomyces cerevisiae에서 Trichoderma Endoglucanase의 발현과 분비

        The endoglucanase gene, egl6, of Trichoderma sp. was connected with the yeast ADH1 promoter, and the resultant plasmid, pVT-C4, was introduced into three S. cerevisiae host strains (YNN27, 2805, and SEY2102). Among each 80 transformants, the cell growth and expression level of endoglucanase were compared in test-tube cultivation, and three respective transformants for each host cells showing the highest expression level and cell growth were selected. When three recombinant yeast cells were batchwise cultivated for 48 hr in flask, the total activities of endoglucanase expressed were about 1140 unit/1 with 2805/pVT-C4, 1020 unit/l with SEY2102/pVT-C4, and 590 unit/l with (YNN27/pVT-C4. Irrespective of host strain, about 80% of the expressed endoglucanase was detected in the extracellular medium. In addition, it was also found that the recombinant enzyme was secreted into the culture medium as two major forms of lightly and heavily glycosylated proteins.

      • 유포자성 유산균을 이용한 라면스프의 개발에 관한 연구

        L. sporogenes를 호기조건으로 24시간 배양한 결과 생균수는 20×10^(8) CFU/mL로 나타났으며 포자 형성율은 97%를 보였다. 라면 스프 및 조리시간에 따른 생균수를 측정한 결과 3회사 제품 모두 약간의 근소한 차이는 있지만 조리 후 10분이 지나 72~74℃ 가 될 때 까지는 생존율이 약 10%씩 감소하다가 조리 후 10분이 지나 용기면의 온도가 60℃ 범위를 유지하는 동안은 생존율이 75~78%를 유지하면서 그 이후 생존율에 거의 변화를 보이지 않았다. 인공위액에 3사의 컵라면 스프를 각각 3.2% 첨가한 후 포자의 생존율은 30분경과 후 대조군은 95%를 나냈으며 N사와 H 및 S사는 각각 90%, 88%, 91%를 나타내어 대조군과 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 1.0% 농도의 Oxgall에 3사의 컵라면 스프를 각각 3.2% 첨가한 후 생존율을 측정한 결과 60분경과 후 에서는 대조군이 95%, B사와 N 및 S사 가 각각 82%, 80%, 80%로 약 15% 이상 차이가 나타났으며 60분경과 후 에는 대조군이 90% 의 생존율을 보인 반면 B사와 N 및 S사는 각각 70%, 68%, 67%로 대조군 보다 20~23% 사멸 율이 증가하였다. 스프에 함유된 포자에 대하여 20℃와 37℃에서의 저장성 시험결과 20℃에서 보존 한 경우 N사의 스프에시 3, 6, 9개월 후의 생존율이 94, 90, 84%였으며 37℃에서 보존 한 경우 20℃에서 보존 한 경우 보다 20%정도 감소율이 증가하여 온도에 의한 영향이 매우 큰 것으로 나타났다. In order to develop functional cup ramyun containing with spore forming lactic acid bacteria powder, Lactobacillus sporogenes which has resistant spore against high temperature, low pH and oxgall was selected. In jar fermentor experiment under optimal culture condition, the number of spore of Lactobacillus sporogenes reached about 20×10^(8) cfu/ml and sporulation rate was about 97%. In the treatment of artificial gastric juice(pH 3.0) with cup ramyun soup for 30min, the survival rate of spores in B, N and S company soup were about 90%, 88% and 91% respectively. Survival rate in the presence of 1.0% oxgall for 1 hour had more than 80%. The storage stability was more than 70% at 20℃ and 60% at 37℃, respectively.

        앤더슨 모형을 이용한 우리나라 일부 대학생의 구강진료이용행태에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study is to provide framework for understanding university students' dental services utilization. In this paper Andersen model is applied to the analysis of dental services utilization. This model consists of predisposing, enabling, and need components that describe a person's decision to use dental health services. Questionnaire surveys were conducted for 521 university students. The number of independent variables used in the analysis was 36 in total, ie 25 predisposing components, 8 enabling components, and 3 need components. For statistical analyses of collected data, the multiple regression and the path analysis were adopted, The results obtained were as follows; 1. The proportion of student' dental visits was 41.5%, and the average of the dental visits was 2.33. 2. The purpose of most important recent utilization was dental caries treatment in university student. Also 4.4% of student visited dental clinic for oral disease prevention. 3. The amount of variance of the Andersen model for university student's dental visits was 16%. And of predisposing, enabling and need factors, which are components of the Andersen model, the need factors showed the largest amount of variance for university student's dental visits. 4. Number of restricted activity days caused by oral disease, having a regular dental care, socioeconomic status and perception on oral disease prevention were found to have significant major effects on dental services utilization of university student. Number of restricted activity days was most important factor affecting dental services utilization of student.

      • PBD가 설치된 연약지반의 원심모형실험에 관한 연구

        This study is the result of experimental and numerical study on the consolidational behavior of multi-layered soft soil ground installed with plastic board drains (PBD). Centrifuge model tests with a marine clay sampled from field were performed to investigate the consolidational behavior of multi layered ground where a dredged soil was placed on the soft clay ground and PBDs were installed. Test results were compared with those of numerical analyses, using the 2-D equivalent model previously proposed. From test resuts, it was found that the amount of consolidation settlement occurred in the original ground due to embankment surcharge loads was in the range of 38% of total settlement in the whole ground. From the results of cone penetration tests executed after finishing the centrifuge model tests, the cone resistance was found to increase with depth. The measured water contents inbetween PBDs were in the ranges of 38~50% and their values tended to increase with increasing the distance between PBDs.

        Emphasis has recently been laid on the importance of street space that constitutes urban space in stimulating and strengthening the functions of the downtown area In most urban areas, however, street space has deteriorated so much that it reveals barrenness This situation is owing not to the lack of proper understanding about the importance of street space planning, but to the paucity of accumulated study on the correlation between the spatial consciousness of man as the subject of a street space evaluation on the one hand and the constituent elements as the object of spatial formation on the other District unit planning is a social system that is concerned with developing street space It maps out ideal urban space for better urban environment It also aims to better utilize urban space in accordance with the size and complexity of a city The purpose of this thesis is to examine the correlation between urban planning control elements regulating constituent elements of street space and the structure of man's psychological evaluation of the streetscape It explores the influence of physical regulatory elements on the streetscape, thus providing basic data and guidelines for planning a better streetscape It makes a psychological analysis of different applications of controlling elements by employing a semantic differential method and a CG simulation The procedure of my research is first to choose adjectival pairs that describe street space through bibliographical study and preliminary survey, and then to select physical regulatory elements concerning district Unit planning My study also shows the influence of the design control elements of distinct unit planning on the streetscape, by experimenting with those elements by means of CG simulation It examines variables on the axis of psychological factors according to the variation of regulatory elements and the degree of the influence of those variables

        This study was conducted to investigated the major characteristics of genetically modified rice of "Milyang 204" originated from Dongjinbyeo compared to a non-transgenic rice varieties Dongjinbyeo and Junambyeo. Basta resistant transgenic rice lines carrying bar gene produced by the Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute were evaluated for their agronomic characters. The transgenic Japonica rice of "Milyang 204" showed inferior phenotypic traits compared to a non-transgenic rice variety Dongjinbyeo and Junambyeo. On the basis of UPOV (Union Internationale Pour la Protaection des Obtentions Vegetables) and NSMO(National Seed Management Office) the transgenic "Milyang 204" showed difference in some traits out of some agronomic traits, such as leaf color, angle of flag leaf, number of spikelets, culm length, white core and white belly compared to the nontransgenic varieties rice.

      • 미생물 포괄 고정화방식을 이용한 수산물 가공공장 폐수처리

        Feasibility of simultaneous removal of organic and nitrogen is evaluated as applying microbial entrapping method to treat fish processing wastewater. Treatability test is conducted immobilizing activated sludge from municipal sewage treatment plant to gel matrix made of cellulose triacetate. Stable operation can be possible when applying organic and nitrogen loading rate increasingly to wastewater treatment system composed of anoxic and oxic tank. Organic loading rate and nitrogen loading rate are applied 0.65-1.72kg COD/㎥/d and 0.119-0.317kg T-N/㎥/d, respectively. In case of wastewater from fish processing plant used in this study, it is evaluated that 0.3kg T- N/㎥/d is upper limit of applicable space loading rate because effluent T-N concentration is exceed 60mg/L, legal effluent dishargeable limit of T-N concentration in Korea, when space loading rate is exceed 0.3kg T-N/㎥/d. It is evaluated that nitrification of system is performed efficiently regardless fo variation of applied loading rate because removal efficiency of NH_(4)^(+)-N is relatively constant when the applied NH_(4)^(+)-N loading rate is increased gradually, while decrease of T-N removal efficiency is apparent when the applied loading rate is increased gradually. Nitrate removal efficiency in this study is varied from 98.62% to 99.51% depending on applied loading rate, while nitrification efficiency of oxic reactor is varied from 94.0% to 96.9%. It is showed that COD removal efficiency is varied from 94.2% to 96.6% and T-N removal efficiency is varied from 73.4% to 83.4% depending on loading rate applied in this study.
