      • PTP1B inhibitory activity of kaurane diterpenes isolated from <i>Siegesbeckia glabrescens</i>

        <P>Protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) is considered as a therapeutic target for the treatment of diabetes and obesity. In our preliminary screening study, a MeOH extract of the aerial part of <I>Siegesbeckia glabrescens</I> was found to inhibit PTP1B activity at 30 μg/mL. Bioassay‐guided fractionation led to the isolation of two active diterpenes, <I>ent</I>-16&bgr;H,17-isobutyryloxy-kauran-19-oic acid (<B>1</B>) and <I>ent</I>-16&bgr;H,17-acetoxy-18-isobutyryloxy-kauran-19-oic acid (<B>2</B>), along with <I>ent</I>-16&bgr;H,17-hydroxy-kauran-19-oic acid (<B>3</B>). Compounds <B>1</B> and <B>2</B> inhibited the PTP1B activity with IC<SUB>50</SUB> values of 8.7 ± 0.9 and 30.6 ± 2.1 μM, respectively. Kinetic studies suggest that both <B>1</B> and <B>2</B> are non-competitive inhibitors of PTP1B. However, compound <B>3</B> substituted with a hydroxyl group at C-17 in kaurane-type showed no inhibitory effects towards PTP1B.</P>

        Epidemiology of Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy in South Korea: A Population-Based Study

        Background and Purpose We performed a population-based study to determine the prevalence and incidence of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) in South Korea using data from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) database. Methods Data recorded in the HIRA database between January 2016 and December 2020 were analyzed. The inclusion criteria in this study for patients with CIDP were a diagnostic code of G61.8 in the seventh and eighth revision of the Korean Standard Classification of Disease and a >3-month history of oral immunosuppressant use. The age-adjusted incidence rate and prevalence of CIDP in South Korea were also analyzed. Results CIDP was newly diagnosed in 953 patients during the study period. The mean age at diagnosis was 58.36 years, and the male-to-female ratio was 1.74. The age-adjusted incidence rates were 0.22, 0.21, 0.23, 0.30, and 0.25 per 100,000 person-years in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, respectively. The age-adjusted prevalence was estimated at 1.16 per 100,000 persons in 2020. Age and the Elixhauser Comorbidity Index were associated with the in-hospital mortality of patients with CIDP. Infection and cardiovascular disease (CVD) were also significantly associated with the in-hospital mortality of those patients. Acute-onset CIDP was initially diagnosed in an estimated 101 out of 953 patients with CIDP. Conclusions The prevalence and incidence rates of CIDP in South Korea were comparable between this nationwide cohort study and previous studies. Common comorbidities such as CVD and diabetes should be appropriately monitored in patients with CIDP to prevent a poor prognosis and socioeconomic burden.

      • Polymer-based interconnection cables to integrate with flexible penetrating microelectrode arrays

        <P>There have been various types of interconnection methods for neural interfacing electrodes, such as silicon ribbon cables, wire bonding and polymer-based cables. In this study, interconnection cables were developed for integration with a Flexible Penetrating Microelectrode Array (FPMA) that was previously developed for neural signal recording or stimulation. Polyimide and parylene C were selected as base materials for the interconnection cables as both materials can preserve the flexibility of the FPMA better than other interconnection methods such as silicon ribbon cable or wire bonding. We conducted durability tests to determine if the interconnection cables were suitable for in-vivo implantation, by long-term soaking of the cables in phosphate buffered saline solution. We measured the changes in impedance over time, and equivalent circuit models were used to analyze the electrochemical phenomena on the surface of the cables. Lastly, we implanted the cable-integrated electrodes device onto rabbit's sciatic nerve and recorded neural signals to prove the feasibility of the developed FPMA integration system.</P>

      • Classic Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma with Tall Cell Features and Tall Cell Variant Have Similar Clinicopathologic Features

        <P><B>Background</B></P><P>The tall cell variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (TCVPTC) is more aggressive than classic papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), but the percentage of tall cells needed to diagnose TCVPTC remains controversial. In addition, little is known about the clinicopathologic features of classic PTC with tall cell features (TCF).</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>We retrospectively selected and reviewed the clinicopathologic features and presence of the <I>BRAF</I> mutation in 203 cases of classic PTC, 149 cases of classic PTC with TCF, and 95 cases of TCVPTCs, which were defined as PTCs having <10%, 10-50%, and ≥50% tall cells, respectively.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>TCVPTCs and classic PTCs with TCF did not vary significantly in clinicopathologic characteristics such as pathologic (p) T stage, extrathyroidal extension, pN stage, lateral lymph node metastasis, or <I>BRAF</I> mutations; however, these features differed significantly in TCVPTCs and classic PTCs with TCF in comparison to classic PTCs. Similar results were obtained in a subanalysis of patients with microcarcinomas (≤1.0 cm in size).</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Classic PTCs with TCF showed a similar <I>BRAF</I> mutation rate and clinicopathologic features to TCVPTCs, but more aggressive characteristics than classic PTCs.</P>

      • Sand Dam Development Directions of Mid-mountain Area for Source Water against Drought

        The demand has been increased rapidly about measures regarding the drought in the mid-mountain area, where is a blind area for a water supply because of the continuous drought. However, to date, there is not yet sufficient research for the fundamental solution. A sand dam is a type of underground dam which is installed dam or weir in valley or stream, and secured space is filled with pervious materials such as sand and then store water in that pore. This is can be applied in Korea where is difficult to construct due to stream environment and ecosystem preservation. This study is to analyse the case of designing a sand dam at domestic and foreign and develop the optimised system for water supply and secure source water in the mid-mountain area in domestic where frequent drought damage. The investigate suggests the development directions of the sand dam in the mid-mountain area connected with the existing water installations and erosion control dam which are based on the case of construction in the mid-mountain area connecting with foreign development cases with the erosion control dam and water intake facilities.

        표고 자실체 물 추출물과 베타글루칸이 한우 근육위성세포 증식에 미치는 영향

        표고는 전세계적으로 많이 생산되는 버섯 중 하나이다. 베타글루칸은 근아세포의 증식과 분화를 증가시키며, 골격근의 기능을 향상시키는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 표고 물 추출물과 표고의 베타글루칸인 렌티난이 한우 근육세포의 증식에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 표고 물 추출물의 베타글루칸의 함량은 85 ℃ 4시간 추출조건에서 약 15.20%, 100 ℃ 4시간 추출조건에서 약 13.64%, 40 ℃ 8시간 추출조건와 상온 24시간 추출조건에서 각각 약 9.48%와 약 8.21%였다. 표고 물 추출물을 한우 근육위성세포의 배양에 첨가하였을 때, MyoD 유전자는 40℃ 8시간, 그리고 100 ℃ 4시간 추출물에서 그리고 Myogenin 유전자는 40℃ 8시간 추출물에서 발현이 증가하였고, 증식과 활성은 무처리에 비하여 증가하지 않았다. 하지만, 근육 위성세포의 배양에 렌티난의 첨가는 한우 근육위성세포의 세포 분화와 근육형성에 관련된 Myogenin 유전자의 발현, 세포의 증식과 활성을 증가시켰다. 본 연구는 표고의 성분이 한우근육위성세포의 증식에 영향을 줄 수 있는 것을 확인하였으며, 추가 연구를 통하여 차후 버섯 산업 및 배양육 산업의 발전에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다. Lentinula edodes is one of the most produced mushrooms in the world. In this study, the effects of L. edodes water extracts and lentinan, a beta-glucan from this mushroom, on the proliferation of Bos taurus Hanwoo myosatellite cells were studied. The betaglucan content of the L. edodes water extract was approximately 15.20% at 85 ℃ for 4 h, 13.64% at 100 ℃ for 4 h, 9.48% at 40 ℃ for 8 h and 8.21% at room temperature for 24 h. L. edodes water extract was added to the culture of Hanwoo myosatellite cells. The expression of the MyoD gene increased in the addition of the extract at 40 ℃ for 8 h and 100 ℃ for 4 h, and the expression of the Myogenin gene increased in the addition of the extract at 40 ℃ for 8 h, but proliferation and activity did not increase compared to no addition. However, the addition of lentinan to the culture of Hanwoo myosatellite cells increased the expression of Myogenin gene related to muscle formation increased and the proliferation and viability of the cells. This study proved that the components of L. edodes can affect the proliferation of Hanwoo myosatellite cells, and further research will help develop the mushroom industry and cultured meat industry in the future.

        지방직 공무원이 인식하는 인사공정성이 직무만족과 조직몰입에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

        본 연구의 목적은 기초지방자치단체에서 인사공정성(분배・절차・상호작용 공정성)이 직무만족 및 조직몰입(정서적・지속적・규범적 몰입)에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 검증하는 것이다. 이를 위해 충청북도 소재 기초지방자치단체 공무원 409명을 대상으로 수집한 설문지를 통계분석에 활용하였으며, 가설검증을 위하여 회귀분석을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인사공정성은 분배공정성, 상호작용공정성, 절차공정성, 순으로 직무만족에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 인사공정성은 절차공정성, 분배공정성, 상호작용공정성 순으로 정서적 몰입 및 규범적 몰입에 각각 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 인사공정성은 상호작용 공정성만 지속적 조직몰입에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 연구 결과를 토대로 이론적, 실무적, 정책적 함의가 논의되었으며, 연구의 한계와 후속 연구의 방향이 함께 제시되었다. The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of personnel fairness (distribution, procedure, and interaction fairness) on job satisfaction and organizational commitment (emotional, continuous, and normative commitment) in basic local governments. To this end, the results of questionnaire collected from 409 public officials in the basic local governments in Chungcheongbuk-do were used to verify the hypothesis through the regression analysis. First, personnel fairness was found to have a positive effect on job satisfaction in the order of distribution fairness, interaction fairness, and procedural fairness. Second, it was found that personnel fairness had a positive effect on emotional commitment and normative commitment, respectively, in the order of procedural fairness, distribution fairness, and interaction fairness. Third, in personnel fairness, only interaction fairness has a positive effect on continuous organizational commitment. Based on the results of the study, theoretical, practical, and policy implications were discussed, and the limitations along with future study directions were also presented.
