The purpose of this study is to develop phosphorus removal technology by crystallization on various materials for prevention eutrophication. This study was based on precipitation mechanism and was performed to see phosphorus removal efficiency of activated carbon, anthracite, aluminium and wasted concrete etc. The results obtained from this study are following ; The granular activated carbon coated with dissolved clamshell showed good removal efficiency, 82% of phosphorus. For anthracite after coating, 49% of phosphorus was removed. Other materials such as aluminium and wasted concrete could remove 40% and 48% of phosphorus, respectively. Judging from the results from this research, this technology can be applied for prevention of eutrophication and algal bloom in the lakes.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Ether-free poly(<I>p</I>-phenylene)-based anion exchange membrane materials with outstanding vanadium ion blocking properties are reported. The synthesized ionomers with a rigid backbone structure show small dimensional variations despite the high ion exchange capacities. Among the synthesized membranes, the QPPP-2 membrane with ion exchange capacity of 2.1 meq·g<SUP>−1</SUP> exhibits high anion (OH<SUP>−</SUP>, SO<SUB>4</SUB> <SUP>2−</SUP>, and Cl<SUP>−</SUP>) conductivity. The QPPP-2 membrane shows an extremely low diffusion coefficient (2.12 × 10<SUP>−9</SUP> cm<SUP>2</SUP> min<SUP>−1</SUP>) for VO<SUP>2+</SUP>, which is much lower than that of Nafion 115 (2.88 × 10<SUP>−6</SUP> cm<SUP>2</SUP> min<SUP>−1</SUP>), indicating the vanadium ion blocking property of QPPP-2. Moreover, the chemical and operational stabilities of the membranes are investigated <I>via</I> ex situ soaking tests in 0.1 M VO<SUB>2</SUB> <SUP>+</SUP> solution and in situ operation tests for 100 cycles, respectively. The vanadium redox flow battery single cell assembled with the QPPP-2 membrane exhibits a coulombic efficiency of 99%, voltage efficiency of 87%, and energy efficiency of 86% during 100 cycles at 80 mA cm<SUP>−2</SUP>. The excellent chemical, morphological, and electrochemical properties of the QPPP-2 membrane make it suitable for use in vanadium redox flow battery.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> AEMs are fabricated by a Ni(0)-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction. </LI> <LI> The synthesized ionomers indicated excellent dimensional and chemical stability. </LI> <LI> Ether-free polymeric AEMs showed extremely low vanadium ion cross over. </LI> <LI> The performance of developed AEM showed high EE (87%) with high capacity retention. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Paint peeling was found on the pedestrian road in Gongjicheon Stream. The peeled paint was introduced into the water system in the form of microplastics, which was discussed as an environmental problem in the local community. The introduced microplastics are a mixture of chemicals that can cause water and ecological health degradation and spread along the Bukhangang River water system to the Hangang River basin. In general, microplastics refer to plastics of 5 mm or less, but in this study, microplastics in the soil were analyzed, and a total of 5 research points were designated based on the size of 2 mm or less to be quantified and qualitatively analyzed. As a result of quantitative analysis, the particle size of microplastics observed in the soil was 0.000173 mm to 2 mm and 70 near Uiamho Lake in Chuncheon MBC, 13,128 in Gongjicheon Seoksa Bridge, 17,700 between Gongjicheon Toegye Bridge and Namchuncheon Bridge, 8 in Gongjicheon Recreation Area, and 205 at Gongjicheon Gongji Bridge were detected. As a result of the analysis, at least 1.1×10<SUP>9</SUP> microplastics were calculated based on a maximum particle diameter of 2 mm and a maximum of 1.5×10<SUP>17</SUP> microplastics were calculated based on a minimum particle diameter of 0.000173 mm. As a result of qualitative analysis, the same IR value was confirmed at all wave numbers except for 1550 /cm to 1200 /cm and 700 /cm. Through IR spectral analysis, matching of OH, NH, NH amide or Aldehydes and Ketones or Ester, NH amines, C=C trans, H-C=C, C=C cis or C-Cl functional group components were confirmed. Qualitative and quantitative analyzes were able to demonstrate the release of microplastics into the surrounding soil.

The Development of Customer Experience Management Competency Scale in the Manufacturing industry

The purpose of this research is to highlight the importance of customer experience relating to servitization of manufacturing and to develop an index to analyze customer experience management. It occurred that customer experience management analysis should perform in diverse dimensions to get higher customer satisfaction. Following to this idea, new idex is designed : CEMC(Customer Experience Management Competency scale). CEMC includes three parties which are internal expert, external expert and customer, as evaluators of the appraisal. Each evaluator participates in the inspection about customer experience management through a questionnaire which composed four sections : Product and service, Business process, Culture and Asset. Researchers apply this index to one small manufacturing business and analyze the state of customer experience management. The result would be a reference for building strategy and align inside organization.

Residual antibiotics in agricultural soils can be of concern due to the development of antibiotic resistant microorganisms. Among various antibiotics, oxytetracycline (OTC), streptomycin (ST), and validamycin A (VA) have been used for agricultural purposes in South Korea; however, studies on the biodegradation of these antibiotics in soil are limited. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of pH (5.5, 6.8, and 7.4) and temperature (1.8, 23.0, and 31.2 °C) conditions on the biodegradation of these antibiotics in soil. The biodegradation tests were carried out in the field soil (FS) and rice paddy soil (RS) for 30 d with OTC and ST and 10 d with VA, and the residual antibiotics concentrations were monitored over the degradation period. Under various conditions, the degradation rates of ST was lower (11–69%) than that of OTC (60–90%) and VA (15–96%). The degradation half-lives of OTC and VA tend to decrease with increasing pH value, while the degradation half-life of ST tend to increase with increasing pH value. But, the effect of soil pH on the antibiotics degradation was not statistically significant, except for ST in the FS and RS and VA in the FS. The degradation of three antibiotics was greater at higher temperatures (23.0 °C and 31.2 °C) than at lower temperature (1.8 °C), and the degradation half-lives decreased with increasing temperature. The different degradation characteristics of different antibiotics in soil can be explained by the different characteristics of the antibiotics (e.g., sorption affinity, chemical forms) and soil (e.g., organic matter content). The results suggest that the degradation characteristics of antibiotics need to be considered in order to properly manage the residual antibiotics in soil.

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) such as acetate, propionate, and butyrate are secondary metabolites produced by anaerobic fermentation of dietary fibers in the intestine. Intestinal SCFAs exert various beneficial effects on intestinal homeostasis, including energy metabolism, autophagy, cell proliferation, immune reaction, and inflammation, whereas contradictory roles of SCFAs in the oral cavity have been reported. Herein, we found that low and high concentrations of SCFAs induce differential regulation of intracellular Ca<sup>2+</sup> mobilization and expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8, respectively, in gingival fibroblast cells. Additionally, cell viability was found to be differentially regulated in response to low and high concentrations of SCFAs. These findings demonstrate that the physiological functions of SCFAs in various cellular responses are more likely dependent on their local concentration.

We investigated whether increased contractile responsiveness to epidermal growth factor (EGF) is associated with altered activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) in the aortic smooth muscle of deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt hypertensive rats. EGF induced contraction and MAPK activity in aortic smooth muscle strips, which were significantly increased in tissues from the DOCA-salt hypertensive rats compared with those from sham-operated rats. AG1478, PD98059, and LY294002, inhibitors of EGF receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase, MAPK/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) kinase, and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), respectively, inhibited the contraction and the activity of ERK1/2 that were elevated by EGF. Y27632 and GF109203X, inhibitors of Rho kinase and protein kinase C, respectively, attenuated EGF-induced contraction, with no diminution of ERK1/2 activity. Although EGF also elevated the activity of EGFR tyrosine kinase in both sham-operated and DOCA-salt hypertensive rats, the expression and the magnitude of activation did not differ between strips. These results strongly suggest that EGF induces contraction by the activation of ERK1/2, which is regulated by the PI3K pathway in the aortic smooth muscle of DOCA-salt hypertensive rats.
