Individual identification of severely decomposed or skeletonized bodies is an important part in medicolegal field. 142 bodies were torn up and carried away by flood in a park cemetry, Kwang-Ju, Kyunggi province, Korea at Sept., 10, 1990. The authors examed the 56 bodies, which were gained, through medical, anthropological, odontological, radiological methods, and superimposition for individual identification. Among them, 41 cases were successfully identified, and remaining 15 cases were not identified because of sever destruction and no adequate information.

Individual identification is an important part in medicolegal field especially in mass disaster. At July, 27, 1989, KAL KE-803 was crashed on landing at Tripoli International Airport, Liba. The plane was caught in fire and sixty eight Koreans were sacrified. The majority of victims were severely charred and injured. The authors examed all dead bodies and successfully identified all the cases through visual, anthropological, odontological, radiological and pathological methods including fingerprint and blood typing.

Accurate staging of lung cancer is essential for defining operability, selecting treatment regimens, predicting survival, and reporting comparable end results. Revisions in stage grouping of the TNM subsets in the International System for Staging Lung Cancer have been adopted by the American Joint Committee on Cancer and the Union Internationale le Cancer at 1996. We compared the previous TNM systems with revised stage grouping rules, and tried to applicate the new size-criteria for metastatic lymph nodes in mediastinum. Twenty-two patients were undergone CT stagings by using three different systems of previous, revised, and modified TNM subsets. Ten patients showed different TNM stage by the revised stage grouping rules and seven patients were altered in lymph node stage by the new size-criteria. Recognition of revised stage grouping rules is very important for treatment plan and predicting the correct prognosis.

The nature of the muscarinic receptors in bovine adrenal medulla was investigated in this study. [³H]Quinuclidinyl benzilate(QNB) specifically bound to a single class of muscarinic receptor with a Kp value of about 70 pM in bovine adrenal medullary. cardiac ventricular and ileal homogenates. Pirenzepine inhibition curves of [³H]QNB binding to cardiac ventricular and ileal homogenates were steep, indicating the presence of a single class of binding site for pirenzepine with a Ki value of 990 nM and 508 nM, respectively. However, pirenzepine/[³H]QNB competition binding curves in adrenal medulla suggested the presence of two binding sites (Hill coefficient=0.59) with a high(M₁) and a low(M₂) affinity. Respective Ki values for pirenzepine were 16 nM and 633 nM, with 44% of total sites having a high affinity(M₃). Gallamine, which is selective to cardiac M₂-receptor, inhibited [³H]QNB binding to adrenal medullary, cardiac ventricular and ileal homogenates with Ki values of 12 μM, 6 μM and 13 μM, respectively. Thus, the binding affinities of pirenzepine and gallamine for M₂-receptor in adrenal medulla were similar to those in ileum, which contains the M₃-receptor. These results indicate that the M_(-1) and M_(3-) muscarinic receptor subtypes coexist in the bovine adrenal medulla.

Objectives : Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is a new technique that can be used to visualize and measure the diffusion of water in brain tissue. It is particularly useful for evaluating white matter abnormalities. In this paper, we investigated the neuropathology of the corpus callosum in patients with schizophrenia through the new methods, diffusion tensor imaging. Methods : Diffuse tensor imaging was performed in 19 schizophrenic patients and 26 healthy controls. One complementary measure, fractional anisotropy (FA), which is considered to be sensitive indices of axonal integrity, was obtained from regions of interest in the five areas of the corpus callosum. Neuropsychological measurement also underwent for measurement of frontal lobe function in two groups. Results : There were no significant differences of FA in the DTI measures for either the schizophrenic patients compared with controls. FA was significantly decreased in women compared with men. Neuropsychological measurements such as Wisconsin card sorting test were correlated with FA of patients with schizophrenia. Conclusion : FA measures revealed no differences between schizophrenia and controls. The findings suggest that the structural integrity of white matter in patient with schizophrenia was not disrupted. The results are discussed in relation to previous studies reporting positive and negative findings. It is concluded that further studies using DTI in larger samples, improved and standardized methods of data acquisition and analysis are needed.

According to the theory of Lexical Functional Grammar (=LFG) We try in this paper to describe the relative clause in Korean which shows one of the characteristics of unbounded dependencies. Unlike in English or in German there is no lexical form of relative pronouns. The relative clauses are derived by attaching a special adnominal affix un/nun to the pseudosentences. Thus the syntactic form of the relative clauses are recognized by the feature [+REL] assigned to the adnominal affix un/nun. On the other hand the functional schemata (↓ TOPIC PRED)=(↑ PRED) reflects that the head noun of the relative clauses plays not only a role of special grammatical function in the matrix clause but also has a topic function within a relative clause. The relationship between TOPIC and its gap in a relative clause can be described in a functional structure by the notion of functional uncertainty such as (↑ {ADJ, COMP}^* GF)=(↑ TOPIC). This kind of functional uncertainty enables us to describe the peculiar phenomena of the gaps in COMP-clauses and also in ADJ-clauses in Korean. Finally it comes out clear in this work that the possibility of relativization of a constituent is solely dependent on its thematic role assigned by the predicate of a relative clause. We also find out in this paper that the upper part thematic roles of the hierarchy of the Bresnan (1988) can easily participate in the relativization in comparison with those of the lower thematic roles of the hierarchy. These phenomena can also be appropriately explained on the syntactic level in accordance with the notion of functional uncertainty of LFG.

Temperature of 618 and 1250℃ at As and Ga sities respectively in the horizontal Bridgman furnace and growht speed of 0.7cm/h were found to be optimal for the production of single crystalline GaAs. Self-seeded and unintentionally doped GaAs crystals showd n-type characteristics with Hall mobillity of ∼0.75㎡/V-sec and carrier density of ∼10^19 m^-3 when the mesurements were made right after the growth. About three month later it was found that the same samples were converted to p-type GaAs. The analysis on the p-type sample showed that impurity scattering is dominant at around room temperature and thus the measured Hall mobility was 0.0065㎡/V-sec at 300K. 7.4±0.6 eV was obtained for acoustic deformation potential in the heavy hole band by fitting the theoretical conductivity and Hall coefficient to the corresponding experimental data. The value is very much higher than the theoretically estimated value, 3.6eV. The carrier density variation with temperature obtained from the present analysis gave 0.38 and 0.17 eV respectively for the activation energies of donor and acceptor.
