        Voice Mismatch Meets Neurolinguistics

This paper aims to investigate Korean advanced L2 English learners’ strategies for ellipsis resolution during sentence processing. Ellipsis resolution is known to involve several stages of information processing from the initial step of detecting an ellipsis-licensing element by the parser to the final stage of integrating the ellipsis site with the information retrieved from the antecedent of the ellipsis site. In examining these steps, we have manipulated three factors: (i) TP vs. VP-ellipsis; (ii) two types of discourse coherence relations (resemblance(-contrast) vs. cause-effect relations); (iii) voice match vs. mismatch. We found through the ERP recordings that voice mismatch in TP ellipsis elicited N400, followed by P600, irrespective of discourse coherence relations. In contrast, voice mismatch in VP-ellipsis registered N400 only in resemblance(-contrast) relation, but not in cause-effect relation. These findings lead us to conclude that Korean advanced L2 learners of English seem to undergo the full sequence of processing stages required for ellipsis resolution.

      • 미세혈관 협심증 환자의 임상상 및 지표에 관한 연구

        Background : Microvascular angina or syndrom X is heterogenous and encompasses different pathogenetic entities. Several studies suggest that microvascular angina have good prognosis and occurs predominantly in postmenopausal women. Lipoprotein (a), total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, homocystein, CRP and fibrinogen are the independent risk factor of acute coronary syndrome and are the chief underlying cause of atherosclerosis. We investigated clinical characteristics and markers in patients with microvascular angina. Methods : We studies 23 patients diagnosed with microvascular angina and 16 control group with negative treadmill exercise test and no significant coronary angiogram. We investigated clinical characteristics in patients group and evaluated symptom during a follow-up period of 4.2± 2.5 month. Exercise time in treadmill exercise test was compared between patients and control group. We assessed the level of markers, such as lipoprotein (a), total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, homocystein, CRP and ESR in two groups. Results : There is no difference in age between two groups. Patients group had a tendency to increase in female, hypertension, DM, and smoking history, but there was no statistical significance difference. Exercise duration time was significantly decreased in patients with microvascular angina (p<0,05). Serum lipoprotein (a), total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholestrol, Triglyceride, ESR, Fibrinogen and Homocystein value were no significant difference between microvascular angina and control group. Only CRP was significantly high in patients with microvascular angina (p<0.05). Conclusion : There was no statistical significance difference in age, sex, hypertension, DM and smoking history between two groups but patients group had a tendency to increase the prevalence in hypertension, DM and smoking history, female. Also, Symptom improvement and disappearance in follow-up was presented in 11 patients of 19(57.9%). Exercise tolerance was worse in patients group than control group. CRP value was significantly higher in patients group than control group. There was no statistical significance difference in lipoprotein (a), total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, homocystein, ESR and Fibrinogen between two groups.

      • 플라바논의 아자 유도체인 새로운 2,3-디하이드로-2-페닐-4-퀴놀론 유도체의 간편한 합성 : Aza Analogs of Flavanones

        A series of 2,3-dihydro-2-phynyl-4-quinolones 6a-c have been synthesized using acid-catalyzed one-pot reaction. 2,3-Dihydro-2-phyenylquinolone was synthesized from aniline by condensation with ethyl benzoylacetate followed by a cyclization in toluene. Similarly, the 6-substituted 2,3-dihydro-2-phylquinolones were prepared from the para-substituted aniline. The reaction mechanism of the formation of the final product involves the nucleophilic dehydration and following cyclization between aniline and ethyl benzoylacetate. Nucleophilic dehydration, the condensation was undertaken with p-toluenesulfonic acid at 90-110℃ in toluene for 2-6 hours under the dean-stark apparatus for the ester 3. The ester 3 was continuously converted to the 2-phenylquinolones 6 with dihydrogenation and removal of ethanol. All synthetic process from anilines and ethyl benzoylacetate to 2,3-dihydro-2-phenyl-4-quinolones 6a-c could be carried out in one-pot reaction.

      • COX-2 Inhibitors를 위한 새로운 1,2-치환된 피롤리딘 유도체의 합성

        For the development of new COX-2 inhibitor, novel compounds were synthesized through induction an arylsulfony group to 1-position, an arylcarboxamidyl group to 2-position and an aralkyl group to 4-position of L-proline. The 4-aralkyloxy-1-(4-methylphenylsulfonyl)-L-prolines 5a-d were synthesized through N-tosylation, esterification, O-alkyl-(or aryl)ation, base-hydrolysis (deprotection of carboxylic acid) from 4-hydroxy-L-proline. Final 4-aralkyloxy-1-(4-methylphenylsulfonyl)-2-phenylcarboxamidyl-L-prolines 6a-d were synthesized through the condensation of aniline with 5a-d using DCC.

      • 시계열분석을 이용한 한국 오징어 어업의 어획량 분석과 예측

        한국 오징어 어업에서의 22년간이 월별 어획량 자료에 시계열 분석을 이용하여 어획량을 분석, 예측하였다. 시계열 분석은 다른 생물학적, 해양학적, 사회 경제적인 요소가 없어도 단지 어획량 자료만으로 분석과 예측이 가능하다. 1971∼1990년 사이의 월별 오징어 어획량의 자료를 ARIMA 시계열 모형에 적응시켜 분석한 결과, 다음과 같은 계절 ARIMA 모형식을 구하였다. 로그(대수)변환때 : ?? Box-Cox 변환때 : ?? 위의 두 모형중 로그변환시킨 경우보다 Box-Cox 변환시킨 것이 예측오차가 적었으며, BOX-COX변환식은 ??이었다. 위의 두 모형 중 후자의 모형으로 1991∼1992년에 대해 오징어의 월별 어획량을 예측하였다. 예측 어획량과 실제 어획량과의 월별 오차범위는 0.9∼203%였다. 실제 어획량이 1991년과 1992년에 각각 109,902M/T, 139,792M/T이고, 예측어획량은 78,585M/T과 86,968M/T이었다(1991년의 오차는 24.6%, 1992년에는 27.4%). 2년 동안의 총어획톤수에 대한 오차는 26.2%였다. 또한, 스펙트럼 분석은 순환변동의 주기가 12.5개월, 2.2년 및 5.5년인 성분에서 상대적으로 큰 값을 나타내었으며, 순환변동 성분은 적절한 ARIMA 모형을 결정하는데도 도움을 준다. The seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model and spectral analysis were described to forecast the monthly landings of squid in Korea. The prediction error by the Box-Cox transformation on monthly squid catches in Korea was less than that by the logarithmic transformation. The equation of Box-Cox transformation was ??. the seasonal ARIMA model is presented ?? where : ??=value at month t: ?? is a backward shift operator, that is, ??: and ??=error term at month t, which is to forecast 24 month ahead the squid landing in Korea. Forecast of the monthly squid landings for 1991∼1992 which were compared with the actual landings had an absolute percentage error(APE) range of 11.2∼207.7%. Total observed annual landings in 1991 and 1992 were 109,902M/T and 139,792M/T respectively, while the model predicted 82.816M/T and 101,479M/t (APE 24.6% and 27.4%, respectively). And spectrum analysis of the monthly catches of squid showed some dominant flutuations in the periods of 12.5 month, 2.2 and 5.5 years. The spectrum analysis was also useful for selecting better ARIMA model.

      • 두경부 암환자의 항암화학요법에 따른 삶의 질 변화

        The purpose of this study was to assess the changes in quality of life wish elapse of chemotherapy in head and neck cancer patients. This study was a longitudinal descriptive design. The subjects were 9 patients who had stage III and stage IV head and neck cancer and received neoadjuvant cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil chemotherapy. Linear Analogue Self Assessment Scale (LASA) of the QOL which it includes eleven items(seven physical items appetite, nausea/vomiting, physical well-being, vigor activity, energy, sleepiness, fatigue and four mental items anger, anxiety, depression & vital power) were used to assess the quality of life eleven times(once in the prechemotherapy period and from the 1st day to 10th day postchemotherapy). The means of scores at each time were analyzed by repealed measures of ANOVA and Bonferroni multiple comparison method. The results are as follows : 1. The degree of appetites decreased significantly on the period between third and sixth day compared with that of appetites on the prechemotherapy day (p<0.001). 2. The degree of physical well-being decreased significantly on the period between first and fifth day compared with that of physical well-being on the prechemotherapy day (p<0.001). 3. The degree of nausea/vomiting decreased significantly on the period between first and fourth day compared with that of appetites on the prechemotherapy day (p<0.001). 4. The degree of anger decreased significantly on the second, fourth, eighth and ninth day after chemotherapy compared with that of anger on the prechemotherapy day(p<0.001). 5. The degree of fatigue decreased significantly on the fourth day compared with that of fatigue on the prechemotherapy day(p<0.001). 6. The increment of nausea/vomiting and poor appetite started on the 2.89th day and 3.67th day after chemotherapy, respectively. 7. The increment of sleepiness started on the 2.56th day after chemotherapy. 8. The increment of depression and anxiety started on the 2.33th day and 3.33th day after chemotherapy, respectively. 9. The lowest degrees of nausea/vomiting and poor appetite were 37.00±17.9 % and 28.64±14.94 % after chemotherapy compared with those of nausea/vomiting and poor appetite on the prechemotherapy day, respectively. 10. The lowest degrees of anger and vigor activity were 48.12±28.3 % and 39.83±24.9 % after chemotherapy compared with those of anger and vigor activity on the prechemotherapy day, respectively. 11. The recovery rates of eight items of quality of life (appetite, vigor activity, energy, fatigue, anger, anxiety, depression & vital power) were shown to reach a peak on the tenth day after chemotherapy and be reached to almost 84 % compared with those of quality of life on the prechemotherapy day. 12. The recovery rates of physical well-being and sleepiness were shown to reach to 67.75 % and 95.68 % on the 10th day after chemotherapy compared with those of physical well-belong and sleepiness on the prechemotherapy day. 13. The recovery rates of seven physical items were faster than those of four mental items on the 10th day after chemotherapy. In conclusion, it is suggested that nursing care strategies to improve the quality of life in patients with chemotherapy would be established both physically and mentally, and be extended at least ten days when patients stayed their home after chemotherapy.

      • Cyclooxygenase-2 저해제로서의 benzothiazine 유도체 합성과 항염작용 평가

        The antiinflammatory mechanism of NSAIDs is attributed to the reduction of prostaglandin synthesis by the direct inhibition of cyclooxygenase. Inhibition of prostaglandin production in organs such as stomach and kidney can result in gastric lesions, nephrotoxicity and increased bleeding. In this study, newly designed COX-2 inhibitors, synthesized 1,2-benzothiazine derivatives, were screened in vitro for selectivity of COX-1 and COX-2 inhibition properties. Lead compounds in the structure-activity relationship were studied to synthesize new highly selective COX-2 inhibitors. To determine inhibitory effect of COX-2, synthesized 1,2-benzothiazine derivatives were screened with accumulation of prostaglandin by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in aspirin-treated macrophages and murine macropharge cell. Some of synthesized 1,2-benzothiazine derivatives were shown to be effective as selective COX-2 inhibitory activity. Others exhibited a preferential inhibition of COX-2, although some COX-1 inhibitory activity was still present. As a conclusion, simple monomer derivatives were more active than dimer derivatives. Substitution of halogen (Br, Cl) on the benzothiazine nucleus slightly enhanced inhibition activity.

      • 원발성 폐암의 CT상 병기 결정:새로 재정된 TNM 체계와의 비교

        Accurate staging of lung cancer is essential for defining operability, selecting treatment regimens, predicting survival, and reporting comparable end results. Revisions in stage grouping of the TNM subsets in the International System for Staging Lung Cancer have been adopted by the American Joint Committee on Cancer and the Union Internationale le Cancer at 1996. We compared the previous TNM systems with revised stage grouping rules, and tried to applicate the new size-criteria for metastatic lymph nodes in mediastinum. Twenty-two patients were undergone CT stagings by using three different systems of previous, revised, and modified TNM subsets. Ten patients showed different TNM stage by the revised stage grouping rules and seven patients were altered in lymph node stage by the new size-criteria. Recognition of revised stage grouping rules is very important for treatment plan and predicting the correct prognosis.

      • 전방 십자인대의 파열시의 자기공명영상:직접소견의 중요성

        It is Important to know the normal size, shape, and signal intensity of anterior cruciate ligament in the evaluation of knee injury Many studies have reported findings of tear or rupture as well as normal anatomy of these structure, especially with MR images. To our knowledge, there are few studies about normal structures of anterior cruciate ligament in MR images. The purpose of this study is to compare normal finding with tear of anterior cruciate ligament on MRI. Twenty-three cases with rupture of anterior cruciate ligament were evaluated on MRI, measuring the length, thickness, width of anterior cruciate ligament, and angles of anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments. Mean length, thickness, and width of anterior cruciate ligament in patients with rupture were 37.7±4.8mm, 9.0±1.2mm, 8.0±0.8mm, and mean angles of anterior cruciate ligament, and posterior cruciate ligament were 48.1±9.6˚, 118.8±13.1˚. Curvature ratio of posterior cruciate ligament was 0.25±0.09. The results showed significant differences between normal persons and patients with complete or partial rupture, and the mean angle and curvature ratio of posterior cruciate ligament which are known to related with indirect sign in tear of anterior cruciate ligament showed significant differences between ours and that of western countries. These results will be useful in the evaluation of patient wish rupture of anterior cruciate ligament, especially on MRI.
