The result of comparative group strudies on the nature and characteristics of Foot Reflexology using acupuncture as a health treatment to cure the diseases and aches in our body by stimulating a specific part or point of the body are as follows: 1) We can keep in good health by stimulating a specific part of our body. 2) Many neverous systems are concentrated in the foot more sensitive than the hand and it is possible to cure illness using them. 3) We can guess our state of Health from the state of development, and the structure, of our feet. 4) Park Jae-woo's foot theory forms a similar contracted corresponding system of body but in which the tip jount of the toe corresponds to our head. 5) Park's refexology claims that there exists a passage of energy blood which are linked to the blood vessels of body in a direct relationship to the contracted corresponding system enbodied in the feet. 6) Mildred Carter's approach is the structure of the contracted bowels of the body into the feet along with the right center line of the body, placing the right bowels into the right foot and vice versa. 7) Mildred Carter claims that the inside of the feet reflects the corresponding the backbone of the body. 8) Anna kaye's approach shows that two kinds of zones of the body, vertical and horizontal, correspond to these of the feet. 9) Takenouchi theory is a zone therapy which considers important the marginal scope of nerves transmitting in human body. 10) Bowling pin's reflexology is another interpretation of the contracted corresponding system of the foot laying stress on the torso.

We have previously shown that the larvae of swallowtail butterfly, Papilio xuthus, exhibit substantial antibacterial activity in the hemolymph, upon challenging with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Here we report the isolation and molecular characterization of several immune inducible genes that are specifically expressed by employing annealing control primer (ACP)-based GeneFishing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from P. xuthus the larva. Using 120 arbitrary ACPs, we identified 24 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) that are up-regulated in response to injected LPS. Sequence analysis showed that 18 DEGs revelaed a high sequence similarity to the previously characterized genes of other insects, although 6 DEGs showed no significant similarity to any known genes. Among these inducible transcripts we found 8 putative immune-related genes including cecropin and attacin. Finally, we analysed the expression profiles of potential immune-related genes by RT-PCR and found all of them were considerably increased in the mRNA levels by LPS injection.

Genome editing technology promises to provide versatile tools for the generation of various model cell lines, plants and animals as well as for gene therapy by gene-editing in a target-specific manner. To date, three distinct modes of genome editing technologies have been introduced and extensively investigated in experimental settings, and attempted for use in clinical settings. Despite the revolutionized efficiency and sophistication in gene editing owing to development of CRISPR/Cas9, there remains technical limitations for currently available programmable nucleases in the routine use in experimental and clinical settings. Here, we introduce a universal genome editing technology (UGET) that relies on gene targeting through simple base pairings between a 20-28 nt nucleotide probe and a stretch of single-strand target DNA at the replication fork. UGET has no target limitations, shows lower-than-expected off-target incidence, is straightforward to use, and is compatible to gene correction via HDR. In particular, an overall construct size is less than 2.3kb, which means a high flexibility for use in gene therapy using viral vectors including adenovirus-associated viruses as well as for agrobacterium-based transformation in plants.

Attacin is an antibacterial protein that is secreted by fat body cells of insect larva in response to bacterial infection. A 949 bp cDNA encoding the antibacterial protein attacin was isolated by employing annealing control primer (ACP)-based GeneFishing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from immunized Papilio xuthus larvae. The attacin cDNAs encoded 250 amino acid residues open reading frame with 60 residues prepropeptide. The deduced amino acid sequence of P. xuthus attacin showed significant identities with other Lepidopteran attacins. The attacin transcript was detected at significant level after injection with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The predicted mature attacin was expressed as soluble fusion protein efficiently in bacterial expression system. To increase productivity and solubility, attacin was translationally fused with thioredoxin (Trx) protein and expressed in E. coli cells that are highly sensitive to the mature attacin. The recombinant attacin exhibited antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria.

In a previous work, we performed de novo RNA sequencing of Allomyrina dichotoma using next generation sequencing and identified several antimicrobial peptide candidates based on transcriptome analysis. Among them, a cationic antimicrobial peptide, allomyrinasin, was selected bioinformatically based on its physicochemical properties. Here, we assessed the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities of allomyrinasin against microorganisms and mouse macrophage Raw264.7 cells. Allomyrinasin showed antimicrobial activities against various microbes and decreased the nitric oxide production of the lipopolysaccharide-induced Raw264.7 cells. Furthermore, quantitative RT-PCR and ELISA revealed that allomyrinasin reduced cytokine expression levels in the Raw264.7 cells. We also identified inducible nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2 expression, and PGE2 production through western blot analysis and ELISA. We confirmed that allomyrinasin bound to bacterial cell membranes via a specific interaction with lipopolysaccharides. Taken together, these data indicate that allomyrinasin has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities as exemplified in lipopolysaccharide-induced Raw264.7 cells. We have provided a potentially useful antimicrobial peptide candidate that has both antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities.

Acromegaly and hyperprolactinemia have been described in association with polyostotic fibrous dysplasia. The pathogenic mechanisms of this endocrinopathy are not clear. We experienced a 19-year-old male with hypersecretion of GH, hyperprolactinemia and fibrous dysplasia. He was referred for evaluation of suspected acromegaly. He had no skin pigmentation. Plasma GH, PRL, somatomedin-C, LH, FSH, testosterone, estradiol, progesterone, T3, T4, TSH and cortisol were measured. Among those, the levels of plasma GH, PRL and somatomedin-C were high. Serum alkaline phosphatase was increased. OGTT did not suppress plasma OH concentration and GH showed paradoxical response to TRH and LHRH. GH was suppressed after a test-dose of somatastatin and bromocriptine. Brain MRI demonstrated a mass lesion in sella turcica and another mass lesions in nasal cavity and posterior occipital bone. Whole body bone scan revealed increased uptake in skull, nasal bone, both 9th posterior rib, both femurs, both tibias, left scapular and pelvic bone. These fmdings were consistent with bone tumor such as fibrous dysplasia. We report a case with incomplete MeCune-Albright syndrome including acromegaly, hyperprolactinemia and polyostotic fibrous dysplasia. (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 13:108-114, 1998)
