This article describes two projects based on Robert J. Sternberg’s triarchic theory of successful intelligence and designed to provide theory‐based testing for abilities and for identification of the gifted. The first, Rainbow Project, provided a supplementary test of analytical, practical, and creative skills to augment the SAT in predicting college performance. The Rainbow measures enhanced predictive validity for college GPA relative to high school GPA and the SAT and decreased ethnic‐group disparities in test scores. The second, Aurora Project, identifies gifted students in the upper elementary grades (for children roughly ages 9‐12). This project is now in progress. The two projects demonstrate the potential value of including a broader range of abilities in assessments to identify gifted children.
The Structure of William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury: A Gebserian Approach
Perchan, Robert J. 새한영어영문학회 2006 새한영어영문학 Vol.48 No.3
The Structure of William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury: A Gebserian ApproachPerchan, Robert J.The mutational series of the four structures of consciousness outlined in Jean Gebser’s The Ever-Present Origin provides a comprehensive approach to understanding the four-part structure of William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury. The congenital idiot Benjy Compson inhabits the “pre-causal” spaceless-timeless world of the Magical Structure of Consciousness in which past, present and future are experienced as undifferentiated and waking and sleeping as a single, unbroken borderless continuity. Quentin Compson, the “sensitive” suicide and romantic idealist, is torn apart psychically in the polar world of circular time of the Mythical Structure of Consciousness and believes he can escape this torment only by annihilating his soul through suicide by drowning. The “hairsplitting,” hyper-rational misogynist Jason Compson quantifies time and human relationships in terms of dollars and cents as befits a representative of the “deficient” phase of the Mental Structure of Consciousness. Finally Dilsey, the heroic and self-sacrificing Compson family servant, experiences in Rev. Shegog’s sermon a glimpse of “transparence” and communal love suggestive of an incipient Integral Structure of Consciousness.

Biopolymer films were made from chitosan and tested for gases and mechanical barrier properties. Chitosan film has an excellent film forming properties. Tensile strength (TS) of chitosan films was 38-66 MPa and had high mechanical barrier properties as they are compared with TS of polyethylene films (13-28 MPa). Mechanical properties of the chitosan-based films were affected by the concentration of plasticizers, molecular size of plasticizers, and solvent system. Especially, elongation (E) of the chitosan films drastically increased as the concentration of plasticizer increased. Mechanical properties of the films were greatly affected by various solvent system. TS of the films made from acetic acid increased to 66 MPa which was the highest among the TS of biopolymer films ever developed. Water vapor permeability (WVP) of chitosan film was 0.34-0.60 ng ·m/m2 · s · Pa and was affected by various solvent. WVP of the film increased as the concentration of plasticizer increased.
Permissioned Blockchain frameworks in the Industry: A comparison
Julien Polge,Jérémy Robert,Yves Le Traon 한국통신학회 2021 ICT Express Vol.7 No.2
Permissioned and private blockchain platforms are increasingly used in today’s industry. This paper provides a comprehensive and comparative study of the 5 major frameworks (Fabric, Ethereum, Quorum, MultiChain and R3 Corda) with regard to the community activities, performance, scalability, privacy and adoption criteria. Based on a literature review, this study shows that even if Fabric is promising, the final selection of a framework for a specific case-study is always a trade-off. Finally, lessons learnt are given for industrial practitioners and researchers.

EMPIICAL DISTRIBUTIONS OF FOREIGN EXCHANGE RATES UNDER THE FLOATING EXCHANGE RATE SYSTEM
Mohammed F. Khayum,Jong C. Rhim,Robert J. Hartl 사람과세계경영학회 1996 Global Business and Finance Review Vol.1 No.1
The shape offoreign exchange probability distributions is important in practical applications oftheoretical models ofinternationalfinance. This paper extends previous analyses ofthe shape ofexchange rate distributions by considering a wider range ofcandidate processes. The results indicate that the logistic distribution provides the best representation ofcurrency returnsforfour major currencies (the German mark, Japanese yen, Canadian dollar and British pound) against the U. S. dollar between January 1973 and July 1995. These results are significant because they show that in spite ofthe apparent increase in exchange rate variability during the 1980s and J990s there has been a stable underlying distribution for major currencies.
CAR links hypoxia signaling to improved survival after myocardial infarction
Freiberg Fabian,Thakkar Meghna,Hamann Wiebke,Jacobo Lopez Carballo,Jüttner Rene,Voss Felizia K.,Becher Peter M.,Westermann Dirk,Tschöpe Carsten,Heuser Arnd,Rocks Oliver,Robert Fischer,Gotthardt Michae 생화학분자생물학회 2023 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.55 No.-
The coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor (CAR) mediates homo- and heterotopic interactions between neighboring cardiomyocytes at the intercalated disc. CAR is upregulated in the hypoxic areas surrounding myocardial infarction (MI). To elucidate whether CAR contributes to hypoxia signaling and MI pathology, we used a gain- and loss-of-function approach in transfected HEK293 cells, H9c2 cardiomyocytes and CAR knockout mice. CAR overexpression increased RhoA activity, HIF-1α expression and cell death in response to chemical and physical hypoxia. In vivo, we subjected cardiomyocyte-specific CAR knockout (KO) and wild-type mice (WT) to coronary artery ligation. Survival was drastically improved in KO mice with largely preserved cardiac function as determined by echocardiography. Histological analysis revealed a less fibrotic, more compact lesion. Thirty days after MI, there was no compensatory hypertrophy or reduced cardiac output in hearts from CAR KO mice, in contrast to control mice with increased heart weight and reduced ejection fraction as signs of the underlying pathology. Based on these findings, we suggest CAR as a therapeutic target for the improved future treatment or prevention of myocardial infarction.
Timing of Recanalization and Functional Recovery in Acute Ischemic Stroke
Georgios Tsivgoulis,Maher Saqqur,Vijay K Sharma,Alejandro Brunser,Jürgen Eggers,Robert Mikulik,Aristeidis H. Katsanos,Theodore N. Sergentanis,Konstantinos Vadikolias,Fabienne Perren,Marta Rubiera,Reza 대한뇌졸중학회 2020 Journal of stroke Vol.22 No.1
Background and Purpose Although onset-to-treatment time is associated with early clinical recovery in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients treated with intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), the effect of the timing of tPA-induced recanalization on functional outcomes remains debatable. Methods We conducted a multicenter, prospective observational cohort study to determine whether early (within 1-hour from tPA-bolus) complete or partial recanalization assessed during 2-hour real-time transcranial Doppler monitoring is associated with improved outcomes in patients with proximal occlusions. Outcome events included dramatic clinical recovery (DCR) within 2 and 24-hours from tPA-bolus, 3-month mortality, favorable functional outcome (FFO) and functional independence (FI) defined as modified Rankin Scale (mRS) scores of 0–1 and 0–2 respectively. Results We enrolled 480 AIS patients (mean age 66±15 years, 60% men, baseline National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score 15). Patients with early recanalization (53%) had significantly (P<0.001) higher rates of DCR at 2-hour (54% vs. 10%) and 24-hour (63% vs. 22%), 3-month FFO (67% vs. 28%) and FI (81% vs. 39%). Three-month mortality rates (6% vs. 17%) and distribution of 3-month mRS scores were significantly lower in the early recanalization group. After adjusting for potential confounders, early recanalization was independently associated with higher odds of 3-month FFO (odds ratio [OR], 6.19; 95% confidence interval [CI], 3.88 to 9.88) and lower likelihood of 3-month mortality (OR, 0.34; 95% CI, 0.17 to 0.67). Onset to treatment time correlated to the elapsed time between tPA-bolus and recanalization (unstandardized linear regression coefficient, 0.13; 95% CI, 0.06 to 0.19). Conclusions Earlier tPA treatment after stroke onset is associated with faster tPA-induced recanalization. Earlier onset-to-recanalization time results in improved functional recovery and survival in AIS patients with proximal intracranial occlusions.
